  • "We visited on a Sunday night. The restaurant is nicely appointed with dark wood and high back booths. The appetizers and small plate plates were both very good. We had crab dip and a flatbread. The duck and risotto was ordered by two of us. I thought the duck was too chewy (ordered it Medium) but blackberry risotto was very tasty. The. Wine list is impressive. Dessert included Drunken Girl Scout and a Peanut Butter Fudge Cookie. Both were quite good. Service was very good. Waiter was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive."

  • "The weather was nice and we had a table outside. It was a nice spot to hang out and have a glass of wine. Good neighborhood feel to being on the street. For a wine bar, there didn't seem to be a lot of wine choices. The menu is small and didn't offer low salt alternatives. I'd suggest they add small plates for those that want to eat light and taste wine. This is not a place for a nice dinner but it's OK for a casual get together over wine... as long as you are not a foodie. It fit the bill for a light meal before going to a concert at the Kauffman and it's a short walk."

  • "My wife has allergies to wheat, dairy and egg... It is very difficult to find places for her to eat safely. Our server was GREAT she kept in mind what things me wife could and couldn't eat. The chef whipped up a dish not on their list and she just loved it! This is the second time we have been here and plan on coming back... Thank you for taking care of my wife! As for the rest of us all our food was very good..."

  • "Knowledgeable waitress. Food came quickly. Great tasting wine. Great food. Would love to return, but it was a bit pricey for college kids!"

  • "My sweetheart and I went here for our anniversary. I wouldn't recommend it for a quiet romantic dining experience, it was far too loud and we were practically sitting elbow to elbow with the couple next to us. I'd say it is more of a meet a group of friends and have a good time kind of experience. The food was fantastic, definitely recommend the mussels."

  • "We had a very nice meal at tannin. The pomme frites were very good, squash ravioli outstanding, and a great hamburger. The only thing we did not think was very good was the pear salad salad which was lacking pears and brie cheese. I would return again and recommend this place to a friend. The bar was very nice and the atmosphere great."

  • "Finally got the opportunity to go. Disappointed that it was so open and loud. We were looking for a quiet, romantic dinner and ended up being placed sitting in a row of tables a foot apart from other diners. Couldn't hear each other talk, but did hear our neighbors conversations! Also, the place was so dark I had to use my cell phone to read the menu. Most likely won't be going back."

  • "I've dined at Tannin on several occasions and have never had a bad experience. My servers have been knowledgeable and friendly and my food has been prepared with care, pleasantly presented and most importantly, delicious."

  • "We had a nice booth for five people. The atmosphere was conducive for a comfortable small group conversation. The waitress was too low key. Had to continue to remind her that we needed extra small plates for sharing appetizers and wait a noticeable length of time for the missing table service. Our waitress had strong knowledge of wines helping us select enjoyable choices. Trio round of appetizers was sufficient for 5 people. Everyone also enjoyed their dinner choices. We had hoped that the restaurant would provide a complimentary birthday treat as most restaurants do but that is not the case. Overall, I might choose to go again but it will not be first choice as customer service seems to be a bit of an afterthought."

  • "Great food and service - kitchen stays open until midnight so great place for a late night bite. Service is great with little server/manager turn-over so it is consistent."

  • "We dined before seeing an evening ballet at the Kauffman. I ordered the cheese plate with three cheeses as my starter and I really didn't need any more than that! I had already ordered the portabella sandwich, and enjoyed that as well. It didn't fall into the over sauced category that many do."

  • "Went to Tannin for best friend's birthday. Very pleased. Our group had meat eaters as well as vegetarians and there was plenty for everyone to choose...some picky eaters, too. Fine experience and we will be back!"

  • "We had great service and the food was everything I expected and more. The Sweet Potato Ravioli is insanely delicious, with the accompanying brussell sprouts. Wow. The mussels were the absolute best mussels I've ever enjoyed! And the Strawberries and Lemon Curd in Puff Pastry was delectable, too. I don't generally have desserts when dining out, so this was a treat! Tannin Wine Bar and Kitchen is definitely a do-over!"

  • "the worst dining experience Ive had . The service was slow and inefficient, food came out poorly prepared. I would never recommend this place."

  • "Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen provides a varied menu that should appeal to all palettes. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and was happy to answer any questions. We opted for the 4-course tasting menu, with wine pairings. The wine expert (a sommelier like or server) provided us with some great wines and brief geographical and historical information on each one. My wife says it was the best overall meal she has ever had, and the excellent service and relaxed atmosphere just added to the experience. We would recommend Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen to anybody who lives great food and a wide wine selection. We will be back (with friends)."

  • "We waited an hour after our resevation to be seated at a table. To be fair, they seated us in the bar area in the meantime, but we were right in front of the door and every time it opened we got a blast of cold air. We were concerned about this before we agreed to the bar area, and the host's response was "I've never had any complaints." Well, now you have. I like this place a lot, but an hour for a table we reserved is pretty ridiculous. Their Strawberry Napoleon almost made up for our wait: you won't want to share. Our server at the table was attentive and knowledgeable. Our server in the bar area spilled my glass of wine, and didn't even apologize."

  • "We came here before a show at the Kauffman Center. We arrived at 5:45 and told the staff we had a 7:30 curtain. Our server was poor - I think he was attempting to be unobtrusive but ended up being brusque and inattentive. We ordered a bottle of wine and some cheese to have before our entrees. Our entrees were not served until 6:45. Could have ruined the evening. The food was very good, but not special enough to make up for the service."

  • "We are from out of town and needed a place to stop after a show at the performing arts center. Tannin was perfect for our needs. It is super-close--walking distance probably, in good weather--and open late. The wine, beer and cocktail lists were great and there is a nice menu of small plates to accompany drinks. All in all, perfect for post-concert!"

  • "This place is great! However they did forget to put our food order in so we had to eat real fast by time it got there to make our show."

  • "Our reservation was in advance, but table was by the door/window and cold temps and girlfriend had to opt away and she was provided a table in middle of bar area where we were constantly bumped. I was parking the car and had some trouble finding a spot. so was not there for that exchange. A little slow on the salad and then entree causing us to be rushed to a play, but waiter was apologetic. Just was very busy, staff was doing their best. Always have enjoyed coming here, and will come again. Great food as usual!"

  • "Our group had a wonderful meal at Tannin's Wine Bar last Friday night. The food was terrific, the ambience was lovely and the service was the best! I had the sweet potato ravioli with brussel sprouts. Best dish ever! Thanks to the staff and chef for making this meal memorable! Jean Rose"

  • "Great birthday lunch with the girls! Very fun atmosphere, great food and half price glasses of wine at lunch! Plus, a beautiful complimentary bread pudding."

  • "We went here for a nice dinner. It was a little above most average prices, however, the service was amazing. Very knowledgeable staff on wine selections and food. THE CHEF IS AMAZING!!! Usually, I'll leave a restaurant thinking "I know what ingredients the Chef used, and I could easily duplicate this at home..." This Chef blew my taste buds out of the water! I made sure to have our waitress compliment him/her for us. I'll definitely take another date there. Expect to drop around $120 for two, which included drinks and a good tip."

  • "My wife and I decided to go here a few days before Valentines to beat the rush. The service, and wine were both excellent. Our server was able to steer us in the right direction for wine that paired well with our food. The Crab dip was amazing, I would recommend it to anyone. Entrees were both good but the truffle in the mashed potatoes were a bit overwhelming for the whole dish. There might have been more truffle than potato....jk. Overall I would go back for special occasions or maybe for a quiet happy hour."

  • "We loved the atmosphere, quiet, hip and classy. Our waiter was great with giving recommendations without over selling the product. We had three different items the Salmon, the KC strip and the Pork tenderloin, all were fantastic and perfectly cooked. The choice of three cheese plate was the perfect appetizer and the bisque was fabulous. The cookie is a must for desert. Go and enjoy."

  • "Noisy, slow service, small Tables, crowed space (ie To many tables for the space and people standing around the bar area) . Food was great but over priced. Great wine selection ( Wife was happy with the knowledge and selection of the wine choice the waiter made for her). It was a saturday night for what it is worth."

  • "This experience, being about our fourth over a two year period, was not the best. We found the drink prices to be very high, the lighting at most all the tables on the north wall to be so indirect that people used flashlights to read menus, and overall it was just a fair experience."

  • "We picked Tannin to end our Restaurant Week picks because the menu available menu was interesting. The food did not disappoint. It was a well-rounded meal! My favorite part of the meal was the warm peanut butter cookie filled with fudge. The atmosphere was warm, dark and relaxed. The staff was also knowledgeable, friendly and attentive."

  • "Our first time here, on the last day of restaurant week, and we will be back! We started with the beet salad and crab dip, both were very good, then salmon and short ribs again both were delicious and ended with molten chocolate cake with mocha ice cream and also warm peanut butter cookie filled with warm chocolate sauce both were really yummy! We also had a bottle of chardonnay and on Sunday it is BOGO so we selected a bottle of meritage at same price for free and recorked it to take home, that was an awesome surprise! and went well with the short ribs and chocolate desserts We were seated at a table near the bar area and it was little noisy. I was surprised to see that they weren't very busy on such a lovely day!"

  • "My friend and I chose this place for restaurant week because the menu looked good. I had a salad, the salmon entree, and a chocolate cake dessert and the food was delicious. It's a fun, open atmosphere. The wine list is impressive but most of it is SUPER expensive. They did have a few good choices for reasonably priced glasses though. I looked at their regular menu and would totally go back to try the other things!"
