The Tam O'Shanter is a dining legend in the heart of Los Angeles, here you will find the charm of a Highland inn. Diner Reviews
  • "I have been going to Tam O'Shanter since I was very young. While the ambiance is still great, the food quality seems to have slipped quite a bit. The Yorkshire puddings were all over-done and quite chewy, the vegetables were quite underdone, one of the chocolate souffles never even made it to the table, my Ceasar Salad had no dressing, and the Toad-in-the-Holes had very little meat. The staff were all quite nice, and to be fair we did not send the food back because we were all quite hungry and didn't want to wait for the fix. That said, I expected (and have received in the past) much more from a restaurant with this history and in this price range."

  • "Traditional fare done right. The food and service are consistently outstanding! I've been dining there for years, from large group family celebrations, lunches, business or personal, and quiet dinners for two."

  • "I was looking forward to trying this place after reading it's history. I came with a group of 5 people. Each of our dishes were over cooked and salty. Even my mother who originally ordered the Pot Roast. When they offered another dish she ordered a hamburger medium rare. And even the hamburger came overbooked! Who can't cook a hamburger. And we were on a Saturday night. Should have there best chef. I heard someone at another complaining about there food too. So either it was very off or there time has come to consider a major change. I will add that the service was good. I just feel sooty he had to keep apologizing for the bad food. My husband and I eat out a lot and it has been along time since we have been so disappointed by a meal."

  • "We arrived early for our reservations, and were seated at Walt Disney's favorite table. Service was exceptionally good. Food was excellent. No complaints, and we'll continue to drive the 100 miles to enjoy this fabulous place!"

  • "So, I'm a member!! We like to go as often as possible. The wine pairing dinner recently was wonderful. They have great prime rib and special dinners."

  • "We can always count on the food being delicious. Very consistent fine dining, although the prices have really gone up."

  • "The venerable Tam is not the same. The menu has undergone significant change. The long featured food items are now sequestered in a tiny block at the bottom of page 2. The male staff is now wearing levis instead of the traditional knee britches that used to set the ambience of a highland inn. Fortunately, the female waitstaff still wear kilts, although such a thing is not seen in traditional Scotland. There is no longer an atmosphere of upscale dining."

  • "Tam O' Shanter just does not disappoint. The atmosphere is charming and the staff is polite and accommodating. The service is always good. We like being able to make reservations even if there are only two of us, and we appreciate the valet parking. We like being able to have cocktails in one area and dinner in another. What might look like a small-ish restaurant,Keep up has several seating choices. The VIP program and special monthly menus provide interesting treats. Best of all, the food is delicious!"

  • "The Tam is the place in LA you just can't miss. The service is friendly and accommodating. The bar area is perfect for food and drinks. I will be visiting again and again."

  • "Owned by the Lawry's Restaurant umbrella and one of the oldest restaurants in the city serves of delicious prime rib meals for lunch and dinner. They have several cuts that come with cream of corn, creamed spinach, mash potatoes, and yorkshire pudding. They also serve a sandwich bar that comes with a complimentary potato salad and cole slaw. An old time favorite of Walt Disney himself. A true gem in Los Feliz."

  • "Prime Rib was like butter, so tender and so delicious. You must order the chocolate soufflé... Baked to perfection."

  • "This was my second time eating here and I guarantee that I will be back many times in the future. The ambiance is terrific and the atmosphere unique. It takes one away from the buzz of the city around it and takes you to a nice Scottish pub. The food is very good but a little overpriced, but for the atmosphere I am willing to pay more. They also have a great selection of seasonal ales and beers. There is always one to suit your palate. This place is in my top 3 favorite restaurants."

  • "We all enjoyed our prime rib dinners. The scotch rarebit was delicious. The chocolate soufflé was large, very hot and perfectly cooked. Great meal and very good service. Thank you."

  • "Poor service. Waitress was forgetful, even forgot to serve one party her order. There was no birthday special, not even a lit candle. The waitress was just in a big hurry! This was not the usual Tam O' Shanter experience! The food was great though!"
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "The food was okay. I've had better at other Lawry's restaurants. The restaurant was noisy. The service was okay. For the amount you pay, I don't think it was worth it. It has been over 15 years since I've been there. It used to be a better restaurant."

  • "We were very disappointed in our dining experience Friday evening. Tam o Shanter is not what it used to be. Food was really not great...like we remember it. The four of us all had the same opinion. We vowed to go Beckham Place in Pasadena next time we wanted prime rib and the English dining experience. We are never disappointed there. Is this restaurant still owned by Lawry's?"

  • "I was pleased with the service and the food. The server, Debby was nice and informative when we asked about the history of the place. I am a Lawry's customer but wanted to expand on the steak experience and since I am a Southern California native, I felt we needed to explore the other restaurants belonging to the Lawry's family. NOT disappointed. Thanx!"

  • "We've been to the Tam several times over the years. The food was delicious, as always. Whereas in the past, the service has been good, our server, this time, was OK at best. That said, we'll just chalk it to being an off night; we'll be back in the future."

  • "We have been coming to the Tam for years now…always for their superb prime rib dinners. By far, this is the best tasting anywhere in So. Cal. Get the Price Charlie cut if you have an hearty appetite."

  • "A "sister" restaurant to Lawrys - on the Valley side. This restaurant has been here for as long as I can remember. Great food. Prime rib is good - not as flavorful as Lawry's but good. I think they have the best chocolate chip souffle I've ever had!"

  • "I took a friend for St. Patrick's Day dinner and it was great, except for the dinner. The outdoor tent with music was fabulous. Great bands, high energy and everyone was having fun. Indoors, food was cold and undercooked, service was slow and food and drinks were overpriced for the quality."

  • "Very nice atmosphere, attentive service, and very nice wine and food."

  • "Loved the St. Pat's lunch at the Tam. It is our 7th year of a tradition going there and we are never disappointed by the experience!"

  • "I'm very easy to please....I'm always pleased by the best! LOL, but the Tam does fit the bill. Whether for Prime Rib (or the new, and excellent, New York Strip), or more casual food (tonight we both enjoyed seasonal Corned Beef), the food is always outstanding. Angela is our 'go to ' server, as she knows us well, but each and every server and receptionist is top notch and professional."

  • "We visit the Tam every year for both St. Patricks Day and Christmas. The service and food is always great and the atmosphere festive! We love the new menu and will continue to patronize this historical LA establishment!"

  • "This is the first restaurant owned by the Lawrys family. It has comfortable seating, fireplaces, dim beautiful lighting -- a real grown up place for a crisp cold martini and delicious prime rib. We can't wait to go back it was fabulous!"

  • "My husband and I attended a three-course dinner featuring the wines of J. Rickards winery. The food and wine pairings were superb! The winery owner, J. Rickards himself, introduced the wines and shared the history of his journey into wine making. The meal began with a scallop ceviche and Sauvignon Blanc pairing that was beyond sensational. The dishes are not offered on the standard menu, so the event provided a unique experience even for frequent Tam diners like ourselves. Overall, the evening was an impressive blend of culinary indulgence and wine exploration."

  • "Went with my date for a relaxing evening. First time for both of us. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The atmosphere is exactly what I would imagine and hope an old english or irish pub would look like. But not over the top to make it look like an amuzement location. The food and service were excellent. I had the prime rib and my date had a filet mignon. Both were prepared exactly as requested and were delicious. I have dined at Lawry's Prime Rib in Beverly HIlls and my meal was identical to what I have had there. Which is to say wonderful. We also split a chocolate souffle and english triffle. The souffle was ordered at the same time we ordered our dinner. It came out hot and perfectly cooked. Great experience."

  • "At the Tam the food is ALWAYS great. The specialty, prime rib, can't be beat and two sides, creamed spinach and creamed corn, can't be matched. A recent change to the menu and the thought of tradition going south was scary but it only got better. They also changed the dress of the employees and that takes away from the overall charm that was there. I've been going to the Tam for 64 years and saw a few changes, even the name changed for a while. Long ago when you were seated there was a gold finish metal plate at each position and when your meal was served the standard plate would be placed on the metal plate. Change eliminated the metal plate when served and now the metal plate is gone completely. Catch the charm before it's gone."

  • "Yes, it's an Old Standby. No, it's not fallen in quality. The food was as good as it ever was (at least in my experience -- I wasn't there 90 years ago). The service was top notch, very friendly and helpful. The menu was what we've come to expect, and the Prime Rib was delicious. (My wife and daughter liked their fish and chicken, respectively, very much, too.)"

  • "Food was very good! Service was just a bit slower than I would like. A couple of large parties seemed to take a long time to order and serve, so as to slow down service just a bit. Otherwise, we enjoy the food and atmosphere a great deal!!!!"
