Diner Reviews
  • "Had an amazing dinner Mon night at Talula's. The restaurant is so beautiful; esp. the outside lighted garden. As pleasing as the atomosphere is, the food is the real star of the show. The cheese plate was the best I've ever had and the selection was impressive. I try to keep my carb intake low and usually forgo the bread basket; but when small warm brioche rolls came smothered in a dill butter, I couldn't resist. They were well worth the splurge. Our meals were both outstanding. I think you could literally close your eyes, point to something on the menu and be thrilled with your plate. The finale was whipped ricotta mini doughnuts with a drizzle of honey and lemon curd. OUTSTANDING. I can't wait to go back."

  • "My husband and I had a lovely dinner. Our server was Jill. She made great suggestions and really assisted in enhancing the meal. Her disposition was lovely. My husband's pork belly was flavorful and juicy. I had the scallop entree and was pleased with the robust flavor. The cheese plate was delicious. Noise level was a bit high but didn't take away from our experience too much. Job well done we will return."

  • "We went for brunch on Sunday afternoon. It was our first time at Talula's Garden. The restaurant was beautiful and clean. The food was outstanding! I had the filet served with an egg and their amazing corn relish! My friend had Talula's version of eggs benedict. What made his dish unique was the béarnaise sauce. The chef used a variety of herbs and it brightened the sauce ~ so fresh. We don't usually rave about potatoes but the potatoes were roasted to perfection. I also recommend the carrot and orange juice ~ perfect. The food lived up to everything I read about the restaurant in food magazines and on-line. We are definitely going back for dinner after we left happy! My only criticism is for the service. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great."

  • "Lovely spot for Sunday Brunch. Food was fresh and delicious. Only downside, was the closeness of the tables. We heard every bit of the conversation coming from the couple sitting next to us."

  • "It was my first time at Talula's Garden and right away I was disappointed in our table placement. Not unlike some other venues I've experienced, they sat us out of the way next to a wall that kept getting in my way as I dined. Otherwise, our server, Gillian, was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and professional. The food was delicious and well presented. I was unfamiliar with a lot of the wines but Gillian made a recommendation that worked out okay. We had a good time and will try it again."

  • "After much discussion, our party of 3 decided to try the tasting menu. What an absolutely delicious decision. We all thoroughly enjoyed each and every course (including the additional surprises)...one of the best meals we've had. And the service was equally outstanding. We most definitely look forward to our next meal at Talula's."

  • "Went with with two other friends and tried the tasting menu. The chef was very accommodating of friend's gluten intolerance and made special dishes specifically for her. Eight courses...I really didn't care for 1 (anchovy based), but otherwise amazing culinary journey with lots of great flavors. Nothing required salt/pepper for seasoning. Service was attentive and courteous. Great people watching and beautiful setting looking out onto Washington Square."

  • "My only critism is we were placed a a long table that was divided i to 2 parties - this was okay except the other party got a little loud...other than that - a wonderful experience"

  • "I had a wonderful birthday dinner here with my mother. We enjoyed the master cheese plate, the inventive pasta dishes and the sweet ricotta donuts. All of the food was delicious. They also serve a killer Bloody Mary. The service was impeccable. Some of the best that we've ever experienced. I'd be remiss in failing to mention how beautiful this restaurant is. It's a large yet intimate space. You'll feel as though you've entered someone's home if they seat you in the center room. If you find yourself craving unusual flavors and can score a reservation then have dinner at Talula's Garden."

  • "We really enjoyed the food, service and decor. Our only challenge was that we were sitting so close to the next table that it was difficult to not be distracted."

  • "Rant and rave, Talulas was so good in so many ways. Beautiful outdoor patio dining that we skipped because a storm was approaching, indoors was lovely also. From the first bites off our cheese plate, we knew we had found a little bit of heaven on earth. Tried a couple small plates, small order of gnocchi (excellent) and entree featuring bluefish, every bite screamed freshness. Our waitress Maria was a sweetheart and even tho she was busy, she took time to chat with us. And her supporting servers were prompt and politely removed dishes as necessary."

  • "there're is nothing better than a well orchestrated staff. Talula's Garden is a symphony of service considering the runners that serve your food are able to describe the contents of your dish. My favorite NO AUCTION, they know who ordered what dish. Some of the best food I have eaten comes with the auction, awful. The steak Tatar was as good as I have eaten a great blend of spices with tremendous quality beef. Looking forward to returning for dinner."

  • "Awesome. Every bite was full of flavor from the cheese tray to the dinner, including the wines. Really a great combination of Talula's attention to local and fresh with Steven Starr's attention to setting and scene. Really worth a visit."

  • "Love this little gem, just wish the entrees were a teeny tiny bit larger - not much and I know it's not "in fashion" to want huge, hulking portions, but most men will leave just a tad hungry even if ordering an app, entree, and dessert."

  • "Great restaurant. Great service. We went on a rainy night and sat inside. Drinks were delicious. The tuna appetizer with watermelon was great. My scallops were as good as I have ever had. My wife's lamb meatballs unfortunately were just gross. And I love lamb. They were served basically at room temp; they did not taste that great, and the sauce they were served in requires a more sophisticated palate than mine. The dessert with sweet corn ice cream was fantastic. So avoid the lamb meatballs when going to this great place."

  • "We took a long time deciding what we wanted because the menu was full of amazing options. When we asked for a recommendation from the person who delivered our drinks, it ended up being a manger and he gave great suggestions. The cocktails were flavorful and unique, the cheese board perfectly paired, and our entrees were well cooked, executed perfectly, and bursting with flavor. Our waitress was patient while we were choosing, though still attentive, and service was fantastic."

  • "We sat outside in the garden for a Sunday dinner. The temperature was close 90 at 7 M but the breeze coming through the garden was lovely. I really liked the ambiance and the wait staff. I will return soon. My new favorite in downtown Philly."

  • "Where do you take a friend who's visiting from San Francisco who's a world traveller and has eaten at many of the best restaurants around the world? You take them here. Talula's Garden breaks the mold of what people assume food will be like in Philly. I've never dined here before and it was a risk, especially given we'd just come off eating in New York City at Gramercy Park Hotel's Maliano's -- an amazing restaurant. Talula's didn't disappoint. The food was fresh, delicious and although the service was slow to start, it picked up and got much better. Wine was fabulous and we dined for hours enjoying all aspects of the place. Don't worry if you don't get seated in the garden too. It doesn't matter. The inside is fab as well."

  • "Wonderful experience. Service, food and decor inside and out. Seated on time with smiling faces. The new bus guy were not paying attention to the beverage I was drinking. The only one at the table. He was filling glasses without thinking first. Abigal immediately corrected him. Returning once again."

  • "Went on our wedding anniversary. The place is great for a special occasions. The food and service was off the hook. They even did a little something for our anniversary. You have to try the cheese plat. It was so good we got two of them."

  • "Had dinner there before show at Walnut Street Theater. Arrived and 6pm and despite the short amount of time we had to eat, the staff were very accommodating, the food wonderfully prepared and presented, and we had a simply wonderful experience. Will return again when we can spend more time."

  • "Highly recommend this restaurant for its first class service, delicious food and magical ambiance. The food is all locally grown and sourced and is wonderfully fresh. Only caveat is that the food and drinks are a bit pricey so would consider dining here for special occasions. Our waiter, Harris, was the best waiter we've had in a long time; a consummate professional."

  • "Food was great! The service by our waiter was the worst I've had in a long time. He told us he was training, but no one was helping him. My husband wanted to order a side and the waiter talked him out of it. He told him it would be too much food to eat. It was cucumbers! When he finished his drink, instead of asking if he'd like another, he just silently picked up the empty glass and left! I had to flag him down to order a glass of wine. Took 15 minutes to get. He barely spoke to us. Just dropped the dessert menus down on our table without asking if we even wanted dessert. Never even asked if we wanted coffee or anything! We saw a table get seated after us ut leave before we got our entree! I probably won't be back soon."

  • "After a disastrous meal at City Tavern we were skeptical of rankings of restaurants however Talula's Garden was a delight and surpassed its ranking. The service was impeccable, the beer selection perfect (Lost Abbey) and the food the freshest and most beautifully presented. Our special requests of dressings on the side were honored, the warm complimentary brioche were delightful and my only wish would have been a more simple dessert selection. Gelato with chocolate sauce and a cookie would have made a perfect ending. The chicken under the brick was delectable, the pork belly was rich and decadent, moist with a crispy skin. The beets and ricotta were memorable. Thank you Talula for a fabulous meal."

  • "The lights and the flower boxes make Talula's Garden my favorite outdoor dining spot in all of Philadelphia. Unfortunately on a recent visit, the food was very disappointing. We started with the mushroom soup which was unbearably salty, and a salad with far too much dressing. I opted for the chicken entree which was well presented, but the caper sauce was also excessively salty. The friendly service and ambiance at this restaurant are exceptional so I would like to give it another try."

  • "This was our second time and again, the food and service were wonderful. I enjoyed the crab salad, and we split the cheese course. Both the eggs Benedict and crepes were very, very good. Service was fine. I also was glad they had valet parking."

  • "This place is fantastic. The food is amazing and it a beautiful place. We had brunch and every mouthful was delicious. And this is a place where you can come with your vegetarian and meat eating friends and everyone will be in heaven."

  • "The food was fantastic as was the drink menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful, though a little crowded and therefore it can get noisy. I'm a little disappointed that I had requested an outdoor table in my OpenTable reservation and they were unable to accommodate me. I think the outdoor area would have really put the experience over the top."
