  • "Art Smith is a genius managing to combine first class food and service while remaining humble in its presentation and surroundings. The restaurant is housed in a former home and the atmosphere is -- well -- homey. I expected a grandmother with a bib apron to come around a corner holding a wooden spoon. The shimp and grits is the best I've ever had and I've had them everywhere. The fried chicken was excellent and the hummingbird cake should be a sin. Pricey but worth it."

  • "We love Table 52 becasue it is tucked into the neighborhood and offers a cozy and upscale setting- the perfect place especially on Sunday mornings when the weather is cool. The menu is limited to what they do best and the portions are just enough. My two favorites are Shrimp and Grits and the Quiche du jour. They have made a name for themselves because of their Fried Chicken with Waffles- which takes will power to to pass up and let's not forget to mention the donuts and now their version of the combined donut and crosissant. make a reservation- you will have a great meal and wonderful time."

  • "Our experience at Table Fifty Two was amazing!!! Jerrad is the most entertaining, informative, funny, cordial, and professional waiter/bartender in Chicago. He made our brunch experience very enjoyable, and I have to have him each time we are there. Executive Chef Ray came to our table with some great information regarding the history of the restaurant and himself, which made our experience that much more personable. We recommend Table Fifty Two to all of our friends, family, coworkers, guests to our city, and colleagues."

  • "This is the second time I've eaten at Table 52. I want to like this restaurant because the decor is lovely and the ambience is comforting. It feels Southern and the servers are so nice. But alas, the food is unremarkable. Southern food has become very innovative and very fresh lately. Like its name, this restaurant is stuck in the fifties-offering fried chicken, fried catfish, duck confit (that's Southern???) at inflated prices for small portions."

  • "Food is excellent, but the service is a bit lacking. We have been twice and both times the service was a let down. Once we were rushed in and out for a 30 minute meal, even though we were there for a leisurely dinner. The second time our waiter would come to a table to six, take one drink order and then run off without asking anyone else if they wanted anything. We also ordered a bottle of wine, which they kept behind the bar rather than at the table. After glasses not being refilled we had to specifically request they bring it back out. For a fine dining experience the food is excellent, but the service always makes or breaks the experience. In this case I would avoid Table 52 because they just don't make the experience enjoyable."

  • "When I am in Chicago on a Sunday, I go to Table 52 for Sunday Brunch. This time I invited my brother and told him how spectacular the food would be. Well the food was still tasty, but that may have been because we were starving! I have never waited so long for my meal. We didn't order anything difficult (chicken-n-waffles, of course and pancakes). The table beside us ordered at the same time as us and the diners were finished their meal before our food even arrived. Although the waiter said the kitchen was slow, I did not feel that our inconvenience was properly addressed. If the kitchen was slow everyone should have been waiting for their food. I won't give up on Table 52 completely, but I will try another restaurant on my next trip."

  • "Portion size inconsistent (one biscuit to share "compliments of the chef", daily seafood special was comprised of 2 scallops, Hummingbird cake was 5x bigger than the "12-layer chocolate cake", etc. ), service average (did not feel rushed as others have reported), food quality inconsistent (pecan pie should be warm, especially when it is a la mode). Plenty of other options in Chicago!"

  • "I have been to Table 52 twice and really enjoy and appreciate the attention to detail, fine service and wonderful food. My family and I love everything I have ever eaten in this restaurant. I do wish the fried catfish had more seasoning. I have had it on two different occasions. This was the only thing that didn't make my tastebuds do a little dance. I had to ask for salt and pepper for it, and the server seemed a little bit surprised by that request. We love the place and will continue to come when we visit Chicago."

  • "Excellent food but a bit overpriced. Appetizers were delicious (fried green tomatoes and the pickle platter). Highly recommend the fried chicken. The short rib was delicious but overpriced especially due to the small portion size. Watch out when ordering drinks. 1 dirty martini with the house vodka was 16.00. Dessert was good but not worth the high price tag. If I was going to spend this kind of money on a meal I have other places I'd rather go to but if money isn't a concern this is a great place with excellent food."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a mini stay-cation in downtown Chicago to celebrate my birthday. I am from the south, so, of course I am going to be tempted by a place that offers upscale southern and soul food. Our reservation was for 6:15 PM on a Saturday evening, and the place had a few tables seated, and was quiet and cozy. The service was fantastic, and at no point did we feel rushed. For dinner, we started off with the fried green tomatoes, which were fantastic. I had the butter wedge salad, which was simple, yet elegant. For dinner, I had the buttermilk fried chicken and brussels sprouts. My husband had the fried catfish. Both meals were perfectly prepared. My only regret is that I did not leave enough room for the hummingbird cake!"

  • "I enjoy dining at many restaurants in the Chicago area from fine dining to casual dining. I believe the two most important aspects of a restaurant are food quality and service. Table fifty-two hit the mark with food quality, the food was delicious. I'm sad to say that service is what will prevent anyone in my party from returning.I felt the wait staff was not rude and not overly friendly either. There was never any empathy or concern if we were not satisfied, just an attitude of indifference."

  • "Went here for dinner with a freiend as it had come recommended. Downstairs was vibey and bustling, but upstairs was completely dead. A few other tables but it was so quiet that we felt we had to lower our voices to speak so as not to disturb other diners...this wasn't ideal as we hadn't seen each other in 2 years and wanted to drink wine and chat freely. The food was very tasty, we enjoyed the fried green tomatoes especially, but I found the prices exorbitant as it's just comfort food, nothing fancy at all. We had an appetizer each and shared 1 entree with 2 sides, and with a bottle of wine the bill was $150 before tip. As much as I liked the food I won't come here again as I feel I can get much better value for money elsewhere."

  • "We had wanted to try this place for years,and were so disappointed! While the cocktails and appetizers were great, the rest if the food was almost I edible. Their signature fried chicken was dry and bland and the pork my husband ordered first came out so over cooked it was dry as sawdust. We rarely return food but did with this dish. They sent us another one, this time it was raw! The service was slow and very impersonal. All this place had going for it was the great ambience, but not worth the astronomical price tag."

  • "A foodie friend came to visit, and she once again requested we to to Table 52 for Sunday brunch. We both love this place, and it's become an annual tradition. I have told people their french toast is to die for, but it wasn't on the menu on this trip, and nothing really grabbed my fancy as an entree'. I asked the waiter if I could just have a bowl of grits (they were included as part of one dish with shrimp) and an order of the incredible bacon. After checking with the kitchen, my request was granted, and I was happy as could be. My friend had the hash, and was equally delighted. The tradition continues -- and we may move up to dinner next time!"

  • "We LOVED Table Fifty-Two. It is the cutest, most quaint place that I have been. The service was remarkable; very attentive and very fast. And the food- wow! For starters we had the shrimp and grits, deviled eggs, and soup. All very good. And of course we tried the famous fried chicken. It was great, and very filling. We ended up bringing some home. My husband had the fish of the day, which was super fresh and super good. For sides we had mac & cheese and greens. We were stuffed, but very happy."

The citrus and quinoa salad was very tart. The pork chop was delicious and the mac and cheese was divine. The twelve layer cake was a tad dry, but still delicious. Love the atmosphere and would definitely give it another chance."
