Diner Reviews
  • "A truly phenomenal dining experience. The Mediterranean menu is full of attractive choices. Best salmon and pork selections each of us had ever tried. A memorable evening well worth the taxi fare from downtown San Antonio. Return visit is a must."

  • "Our experience at Sustenio for dinner was wonderful. The wait staff was detailed and knowledgeable. The food was delicious from starter to dessert. We enjoyed it so much we made reservations for their brunch the next day. Unless they have made some serious changes I would NOT go for brunch ever again. In their defense, it was only the second time they provided brunch and have a long way to go to meet the expectations of resort goers. Feedback was provided to the manager and hopefully changes have been made to make brunch as much of a pleasant experience as dinner was."

  • "Sustenio changed a great menu for an even better one. Food was excellent! Brandino was cooked to perfection. The osso bucco was very tender and full of flavor. I will be back, there are other new options that I need to try."

  • "I went to this restaurant because a friend told me how great it was so I checked out the menu and was really excited to go. Turns out they changed the entire menu and the new menu had nothing from the old menu. The cheese in the zucchini blossom appetizer was so salty we couldn't eat it. The scallops came on a bed of sweet potato puree with a dollop of applesauce puree. Felt like I was eating baby food. The gnocchi was overcooked and dry. Didn't see any dessert I would want - I LOVE desert and I'm not a picky eater. The friend I was with felt the same. The waiter did make mention that they were losing some regulars due to the new menu. At most it was underwhelming. On the flip side, the wait staff was great as was the ambiance."

  • "I took a group of clients to this restaurant for dinner, it was amazing, great food, impeccable service, they even brought Stephen Pyles in himself to meet our group. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I wanted to try brunch hear after reading good things online and in SA Magazine. We brought our one year old and made a whole morning of it - brunch and the Ripe Farmer's Market. It all turned out to make a fantastic Sunday morning experience! We all shared the fruit platter, which was huge and super yummy. My husband and daughter shared the buckwheat pancakes. My husband said they might be the best pancakes he has ever had. They were huge! I indulged in the chicken fried steak tips with eggs and biscuits and gravy. Wow, it was a large, delicious plate. They also had great coffee and orange juice. The service was great. The staff was kind and accommodating. We will definitely be going again."

  • "No ambience and terrible service. Wouldn't go back there. Not even if it was free."

  • "The restaurant is a very luxurious place in a great hotel. As a result, it is priced accordingly. The service was very good, plan on 2 hours for dinner. I appreciate not being rushed, however at times, it seemed like it dragged on. I had no interest in 5 of the 8 entries, my fault for not pre checking. That left only 3. One soup, duck, which I wasnt interested in, two salads to choose from. Ceviche was interesting. We had "still" water rather than sparkling but were still charged $21 for 3 water refills each. Over all, an experience we will always remember but I didnt feel a good value for the over $200 bill for dinner."

  • "Great food, great service, excellent drink menu and wine list. Restaurant itself is beautiful. Can't wait to go back. Ceviche menu is great. Carrot cake was devine."

  • "Me and my girlfriend visited for brunch on Sunday after making a reservation. Upon arrival we ordered drinks 25 minute later when I asked the waiter about the drinks he informed us they were waiting for the manager to unlock the wine closet. We left and visited another restaurant at the facility."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary dinner. Great bar. Cosmo is superb. Had my favorite bourbon. Tamale tort was excellent as was shrimp and grits for appetizer. Filet was perfect and buffalo was good too. As they say. "Try it - you'll love it.""

  • "In following our tradition of trying a new hot spot each year on our anniversary, Sustenio's won the coin toss. We enjoyed it. The restaurant is beautiful, complimentary valet parking is available, and the menu provided some great choices. Food w good, especially the Ceviche. The only composing was that the service was a little slow considering it was a Monday night and not very busy. And the rose on our table was dying. It was far from our best restaurant experience but we would definitely go back."

  • "The location and venue for Sustenio are outstanding but the food is trending down and the quality of the wait staff with it. I would not reccomed the experience at any price point, much less as a $$$ alternative."

  • "Dinner with wife & kids. A fantastic evening, top notch service and impeccable food. I don't think I have left 5 stars for any dine I've rated. Not for Bohanans, not for Ruth's Chris, Palm...Perrys...none. I had the cowboy ribeye with a mushroom glaze and crispy potato and onion side. Tender is not an appropriate term for how soft and flavorful this dish was. Wife and daughter had the evenings special of red snapper, they loved it. My son,16, had the buffalo steak, very good as well. We had Will as our waiter, he was very friendly and didn't let our wine glasses dry. Daughter, 12, doesn't like fizzy drinks and is picky about lemonade. The bartender custom made a strawberry lemonade for her,she only gulped 4 glasses down! BRAVO SUSTENIO!!"

  • "Overall I had a great experience with my family. Food could have been slightly larger portions (my brother and dad were still slightly hungry) and the service was slightly slow but since everyone was courteous and smiled we didn't mind. The location itself is beautiful and the grounds are great for taking several pictures. Since this was a special brunch menu, I would definitely go back to try the regular menu."

  • "this was my second time going there. The food is great, the wine list is the best in San Antonio. Service is great."

  • "Attention to detail is what we liked best about this restaurant. We had many questions before deciding what to order, the staff had outstanding knowledge of what the dishes consisted of as well as how they tasted. Shrimp and Grits appetizer was delicious. One person had Seared Scallops and another had Mesquite Grilled Buffalo New York, both cooked to perfection. And not a crumb of food left on either plate! The Carrot Cake was a nice surprise, a very light dessert actually and the Frozen Mexican Chocolate could easily have been shared. Instead of moving to the bar for our brandy nightcap, we choose to enjoy the ambiance of the dining room a little longer, we never felt hurried or that someone was waiting to take our table. We will return."

  • "My husband and I just celebrated our anniversary at Sustenio. Bar none this is the best food, best restaurant ever. And we have traveled a lot, experiencing many eating establishments. Every bite was incredible, and service was very professional. We will definitely celebrate here again!!"

  • "We went on a Tuesday nite and the restaurant was quiet due to not many diners. The cuisine was very good but not memorable. It was worth the price considering the travelzoo voucher. But I would probably not go back and pay full price. Other venues in San Antonio with comparable pricing are better. Presentation was good on all meals and appetizers. I chose the rack of lamb, which was a generous portion, excellently prepared, and met expectations. The other three people were complementary of their meals (tenderloins and seafood) but not overly so. Desserts were below expectations. Max, our waiter, was very good, knowledgable and accommodating."

  • "We were taking out a client for lunch and requested a table at a good location that was private but not enclosed off from the rest of the restaurant. They set us up in their private dining area that had glass windows surrounding it, which was perfect. It was quiet, however, you could still see everything happening in the restaurant. The food was excellent and so was the service. Would highly recommend this place!"

  • "food was just great ( do the tamale tart ) could cut the steak with the backside of the butter knife and I did. service was a little slow but was the guy 3rd night. wine list needs some work, but this is not enough to keep us away we will be back"

  • "We made a reservation and asked for a table by the window. When we were greeted we were told they had a special table for us and then we were taken to a table that faced the main traffic walkway for everyone in the restaurant. We did ask for another table and secured a booth in the corner. Our waiter looked overwhelmed. We did not get menus for a little while. Ordered cocktails which were good. Our appetizer of crevice took a long time, once they brought the wrong one and then it took a long time for ours to arrive. We had to ask for bread and this is the first higher end restaurant that I have experienced that my water glass was allowed to get empty. The saving of the night was our food...well prepared, excellent flavors."

  • "Phillipe Place, Restaurant Manager, was gracious and welcoming. He recommended a most delicious wine with dinner. The menu was imaginative and varied. Our meal was deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. The service was nothing less than angelic. From start to finish this was an exquisite dining experience."

  • "Good food, good service. An overall good experience. The beef cheek appetizer was outstanding as was the smoked buffalo entree. We also got the pork belly appetizer and the chicken entree and enjoyed those very much. The apple tart wasn't exactly what I would call a tart, more like an apple bun and didn't taste like it had been made that day. The wait staff was very attentive and professional. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "Sustenio was a pleasant dining experience. We were celebrating our 28th Anniversary and our server (Nancy) made us feel comfortable and she was very attentive without being ever present. The meal was exquisite and we recommend Sustenio for romantic dinners for two and other occasions. We do plan to return for other engagements."

  • "We challenged the staff to serve a dual birthday, one being a two year old, and the other, her 55+ grandfather. The staff was very attentive in accommodating us. The kids had a great time and so did the adults. There was something for everyone on the menu. We dine here quite frequently, as we are frequent guests at the hotel. We are rarely disappointed."
