Diner Reviews
  • "Amazing..omakasse did not disappoint. Our new go-to Japanese joint. Knew it was good when we saw a group of Japanese thoroughly enjoying their meal..they were still there when we finished our meal two hours later."

  • "Tamura Kappo Sushi is without doubt, the best Japanese restaurant in Seattle. The rice for the sushi is well cooked, well flavored. The egg custard and pana cotta are silky smooth and delicately flavored. The food is prepared with great finesse. I particularly enjoy the atmosphere, which is very modern, with a view of I-5 overhead, but also calm and warm with lots of wood and paper lantern lighting. A very fine restaurant."

  • "We had a great dinner at Sushi Kappo Tamura again! This is our go-to spot for special occasions (we would go more often if we lived closer). We were greeted in a very friendly way and seated promptly. Our geoduck sauté ippin was outstanding and the nigiri was as good as I have ever had - even living in Japan for two years! Service was impeccable! Highly recommended!"

  • "Went here with friends and ordered the omakase, which was COMPLETELY worth it, and delicious throughout with the best quality sushi. This will be my special sushi go-to in the Seattle area :)"

  • "Wonderful assortment of fresh local selections and exceptionally high quality staples. Every single item we tried was outstanding."

  • "Modern, nice sushi place in Eastlake with great cocktails. We had the 3-course prix fixe dinner for $55/person. Oysters appi, sushi, and yuzu panna cotta were delicious. Extensive sake selection, too."

  • "Really great food, took our out of town guests and they also really enjoyed the food."

  • "The food is good...not great, but expensive. Parking is difficult on a week night...weekends worse. Service is friendly, but slow."

  • "There were some interesting takes on traditional Japanese food that we enjoyed. Everything was excellent."

  • "This restaurant fired on all cylinders!! The service, food, presentation was exemplary!!! All was exceptional !!!the chef is insane with his combinations. We have been truly impressed '"

  • "This is my favorite sushi in Seattle, and that is saying something. And their other items are equally well prepared and delicious. Recommendations by servers can always be trusted and chef's choices are always stellar. I am a fan."

  • "All the food here was fantastic, but the small plate were where the restaurant truly shined. The oysters and prawns in particular were amazing! The nigiri was a little heavy on wasabi for my taste, but the fish itself was incredibly fresh and expertly prepared. There is an attention to detail at Sushi Kappo Tamura that really shows in every item on their menu and in the service I received."

  • "Dinner was so good we were still talking about 2 days later. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Amazingly creative for their combination of flavors during the 7 course omakase meal. Case in point, the Nova Scotia lobster in a dashi/pea broth with custard. The pairing of sake with each course was a marvel. Their sashimi slices were so artfully done and of course, the fish was superb."

  • "Superb fresh sushi with a local flavor. The chanwanmushi with Dungeness crab was outstanding: silky egg custard studded with tender seafood and a smoky dashi undertone. The razor clams were sweet, briny and tender. The herring was a revelation, not too fishy, but rich and flavorful, cut with just a touch of grated ginger. The Seattle roll was very tasty, with fresh wild salmon and avocado; if only the salmon had been left in bigger pieces instead of being so finely chopped that the texture was too soft. But the King salmon sushi was very good. A sake flight went perfectly with the meal; with just 3 small glasses, though, I needed more to slake my thirst; fortunately, refills on the hot green tea were free :)"

  • "Sushi Kappo Tamura is without a doubt the BEST fish in Seattle. Extremely concise artwork from the sushi bar with all nigiri sushi, a great saki list and everything you would expect from a world-class Japanese restaurant. If you love sushi then you owe it to yourself to go here!"

  • "Dependable great sushi. We have 3 grown sons, and whenever they're leaving Seattle or coming home, sushi is what they want. This has become a favorite, for it's casual unpretentious atmosphere and very fresh sushi. "

  • "The four of us were there on a Sunday night. The restaurant were busy but not overly crowded. I loved the black cod I ordered. It was very fresh and tasty. "
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "The fish was tasty, maybe a step above the average sushi joint. Our server was attentive enough, but lacked social skills and had no energy. She was a soft talker so we had to constantly ask for her to talk louder. Was also received our appetizers after all of our main course came. A bit of refinement is needed."

  • "We are so impressed with the tasting menu. Absolutely delightful. With the tasting menu, be sure to opt for the sashimi platter. Fresh and wonderful. A carefully-prepared, beautiful meal. "

  • "We used the Travelzoo voucher to order two tasting menus, adding a sashimi course. It was a feast! You will not go hungry. And, you'll get each course with excellent service. Sit at the sushi bar to watch the chefs make your meal!"

  • "There's a reason why this restaurant was voted one of the best restaurants (and THE best sushi) in Seattle. The food is INCREDIBLE and all the chefs, servers and hostesses treat you as a VIP whenever you go. The food definitely includes details about where the fish comes from with a focus on fish from the northwest - but doesn't push it as the "trendy" thing to do as seems the case with so many restaurants as of late. If there's a sushi place to go to for locals or out of towners who want to experience the best sushi the northwest can offer, this is THE PLACE to go!"

  • "Based on reviews, we gave Tamura a try. This is more of a classic sushi restaurant similar to Shiro. The quality of the fish was excellent and the price was quite reasonable especially for the rolls. The rolls were small, 6-8 pieces in each and not very big but still delicious. One of the more creative dishes was the mustard greens with tuna - YUMMY. Definitely a highlight! They don't have a waiting area so if you need to grab a drink, go to Ravish next door. AMAZING cocktails, great staff. We had a drink before Tamura with an appetizers - the best steak skewers ever. We returned afterwards for dessert - amazing bread pudding. Two great restaurants!"

  • "I've tried a bunch of Japanese restaurants - in my opinion, this one is hands-down the best. Every dish was fantastic. It's not an inexpensive restaurant, but it's well worth the price. I've paid more at other places and come away dissatisfied. The menu is fascinating. After you eat, you feel good because the food is healthy. Terrific sake list ! We went here on our anniversary. Perfect choice !"

  • "A customer friendly place with great food and attention to detail. You are greeted warmly when you enter. We ate at the sushi bar, and were seated right away. Drinks came quickly, and orders were professionally taken and promptly delivered. Staff behind the counter were attentive, and engaged in conversation as they prepared the food without missing a beat. The very capable Taichi-san did his masterful work with great skill and humor right n front of you. It could not have been a more positive experience. We will go back often. It was a good experience and fairly priced."

  • "My date and I went here for restaurant week. The food was pretty fantastic; our appetizers in particular were very good. We both had a sushi variety plate, and it was fun to talk about each separate bite and see her reaction to the raw shrimp. I wasn't terribly impressed with my dessert; a sort of inside-out mochi ball that was a bit overcooked; the rest of the food was very impressive. The only drawback to the experience was the service. Sushi wait staff are usually rather distant in my experience (I think they try to disappear) but our servers seemed especially cold and silent. It was almost creepy. The restaurant only had a few other diners when we sat down (we were the only ones for a little bit) so I don't think they were overworked."

  • "Hostess was kind and kitchen staff seems to be welcoming. But server was unfriendly and seems like not interested to work. Food came out too fast. Why would they call it appetizer on the menu for the restaurant week, they just should call it side dish despite of quantity and pace of the food it was def. a side dish not appetizer. I ordered Chirachi bowl, evert Japanese sushi restaurant I go, I always order Chirachi bowl, and Sushi Kappo's Chirachi was one of the bottom list. Rice was under seasoned, fish was diced up with poor quality of handling and lots of small scrape of the fish. if this is one of the ways of getting rid of bad cut or un-fresh fish. Thy did it Correct. This wasn't our first time of dining here, but certainly last time."

  • "Great sushi. I eat sushi all the time and this is among the best I've had in Seattle. Great spicy tuna, Sockeye Salmon nigiri, great tempura and salad apps, and even the miso soup was something special."
