Diner Reviews
  • "Sunset Terrace was fabulous! Exceptional food, Terrific service and great surroundings!"
    Dined on 8/17/2014
  • "While the food was decent (I've had way better at comparably priced restaurants), it took way too long for us to get our food. Over one hour and 15 minutes between ordering and our main course arriving. The couple at the table next to ours ordered 5 minutes before us and had already left before we were served our main course (and they have the same number of courses). While the server was friendly and generally provided good service (i.e. refilled glasses timely), she never apologized or acknowledged the long delay. Salad orders were both wrong on original delivery, but corrected pretty quickly. Not what I would expect out of a $150 dinner."

  • "I am a Filet Man...but WOW! The Bone in Ribeye tasted like it was cooked by John Wayne over campfire. Perfect blend of crispy and juicy. My wife did have the filet and it was cooked perfectly. The view is great and the staff was fun. Grove Park is a gem and I hate to admit that the Omini take over helped. I was a tad bit saddened that Omini took over but they gave tasteful upgrades and the staff was amazing. The dinner is a must. A bit pricey but who cares. You cant eat money!"

  • "Our evening on the Sunset Terrace was outstanding. The views are always spectacular and so is the food and service. One of our favorite places to dine in Asheville, especially when entertaining out-of-town guests. It simply can't be beat!!"

  • "My wife and I had dinner there to celebrate her birthday. We very much enjoyed both the dinner and the fantastic view of the mountains. The weather couldn't have been better during our stay."

  • "One of the best meals I have had. The setting and view could not be better. Service was perfect, food was some of the best we have had. I thought the menu selection was a little limited if you didn't want beef. The only negative is it really expensive. I have eaten at many of the top restaurants in the US and the Sunset Terrace is at the top of the expense scale."

  • "Chosen based on reviews from others and the fact my spouse is a beef eater. Plenty to choose from on the menu whether a la carte or meals. My spouse got the caesar and said there were only 1.5 anchovies and the white ones lacked flavor (clearly a traditionalist). He also said the dressing lacked flavor. I ordered the wedge and it was so beautiful I took a picture and the flavor was even better. We loved the ability to pick sauces to suite your palate. However the chef didn't pay attention to our request and both of our medium rares came without any pink. A sin to do that to good meat! The sides are large so take that into consideration, each one of ours could have served 2 or more. Wine list good whether by the bottle or glass."

  • "There are some restaurants you hope you'll get to enjoy over and over. Omni Grove Park Inn's Sunset Terrace is definitely one of those restaurants. We try to have lunch there each time we visit Asheville. We are never disappointed. My lobster salad was delicious. Until next time!"

  • "Great service from Waitstaff(Stan) & Mgr. Vincent. Food was exceptional. We would recommend this a year long outdoor dining venue. The view, comfort, food, and personable staff make for a full destination getaway! Thank you for a special birthday celebration!"

  • "The $48 bone in rib-eye was terrible. It was very grisly and undercooked. We have had much better steaks at Outback restaurant. It was so revolting that the husband was not in the mood afterwards to take another one. So he passed on it. At least we got a free dessert . But my filet was very good and cooked perfectly. You would think that a restaurant such as this , they would of made sure that it didn't happen in the first place."

  • "Going to a restaurant outside, one does want to plan for the unexpected. I was wearing a sleeveless dress, I did bring an extra layer just in case I was chilled, I was burning up the entire time. The weather outside was great! Nice and cool for an August evening after 8pm, exactly what one would expect in the mountains of WNC. However, while on the patio, it felt like the heaters were on. It was so hot, when the couple sitting next to us on the edge of the patio got up, she kindly whispered to me that they were at our table previously and requested to move to the table on the edge when that couple left. This sounded promising, but alas we were not allowed. Not very accommodating. The staff was pleasant and the food what one would expect."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner very much at the Sunset Grille. The sirloin steak was superb as were the scallops. The lemon chill pie was yummy. Mozzerella salad was just ok. The waitstaff were very friendly and accommodating."

  • "the setting is lovely, it is pricey - especially the wines but we knew that going in. we were celebrating. our service was VERY rushed - food delivered before we were finished with our salad - and were asked at least three "can we clear your plates". we had to ask for steak knives!"

  • "Not only is the Grove Park Inn filled with historical significance, the Sunset Terrace Restaurant offers that old style feel, while at the same time giving the diner a delicious meal that was very memorable. The view is spectacular and the whole experience made our anniversary special."

  • "The Sunset Terrace is a must if you are in Asheville, and of course sunset is the ideal time to go. The view of the Blue Ridge mountains and the beautiful wooded valley are breathtaking. Pair that with fantastic food, great friendly service, and delicious cocktails and desserts and it is well worth a splurge. Yes it's pricey but firmly in the category of worth it. We dressed up but it is a resort where people are relaxed and more casual attire is acceptable."

  • "Sunset Terrace at the Omni-Grove Park is our go to restaurant in Asheville. We were there for my wife's birthday dinner (several other birthdays on the terrace that night, too) and then back again for lunch. We loved introducing other people to this find. We've been going to eat there for 20 years and plan to continue another 20."

  • "Beautiful great service. The food is good for lunch overpriced for dinner. Exquisite service and setting. They put mustard on my grass fed burger! Who does that without asking? I had an amazing butterscotch chocolate ganash creme brûlée! Valet parking should be free for the Resturaunt great fun for company"

  • "The food and service were perfect. Probably the best lobster we have ever had. However, there was a table next to us of young professional men who were loud and drunk who kind of ruined our dinner. Other than that I would highly recommend Sunset Terrace. We plan to go back this week!"

  • "We had a table on the outside rail, upper level at 8:15, sunset just starting, a couple of glasses of wine, and things just got better from then on. we finished a great meal and it was dark, a great setting for romantic dinner"

  • "Couldn't have been a better experience. Amazing cocktails, amazing (local) food, and friendly service. Rachel and the rest of the staff ensured we enjoyed our selves and our dinner. Macaroons for celebrating after dinner were fabulous!"

  • "This was our second time dining there and definitely one of our very favorites."

  • "We felt like we were just another room number. Service was adequate, though a bit slow. Food was good, but we have had much better for the price. Views of the mountains was spectacular...part of the cost of "admission", I guess."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "I had had lunch here on several occasions, but never dinner. From arrival to paying our bill, everything was first class. I had mentioned it was a birthday celebration on the Open Table reservation and it was mentioned upon our arrival by the hostess, as well as our waiter. An expensive evening, but well worth it for the view and ambience!"

  • "Sunset Terrace was a nice place to dine. The waiter checked on us once after receiving our entrees'. But my wife didn't like her chicken entree'. They did take it off the tab, to salvage the evening somewhat. Just didn't get a good vibe for the whole experience. The prices were a little hefty."

  • "We're staying @ The Grove Park Inn, we had our 1st dinner on the Sunset Terrace and it matched the spectacular view from our table. I had the Filet Mignon which was cooked and seasoned perfectly, my wife had the Mountain Trout, also perfectly done. The sides and service was just right, not too much or too little. Our waiter was knowledgeable not just about the preparation of the food, but its sources and just general info about the Inn and the gorgeous surrounding Asheville area.....Might eat there again tonight!"

  • "For prices - which are very high - service was pleasant but amateur. Two waitresses were both nice but awkward about whose table we were and who would do what. Gestures of keeping the napkins tidy or pulling seats for ladies to sit were nonexistent. Ambience was too loud to hear waitresses if they were not beside you (outdoors and big table, so must be challenging). I called in the morning to say that we were a table of 10 instead of 12, and when we arrived there were still 12 place settings. So we sat with two empty arrangements. When we arrived at 8pm for our 8:15pm reservation, we were greeted slightly dismissively, like go figure out what to do with yourselves bc you are early.... Staff is either young and inexperienced, or both.."

  • "This was a lovely restaurant- The food was nice as well. Several of the salads our group ordered were not up to par- some of the ingredients were a little off; one of my guests could not eat hers. The wine and cocktails were lovely- the dessert was lovely...it was an overall good experience. The level of noise with the Inn overall is unfortunate and this location within the restaurant seems to have the biggest issue with noice. We had a lovely private niche' but still had to shout to be heard over dinner; not the best way to enjoy a meal. Our servers were very polite and very knowledgeable about the menu- that was great."

  • "Great view, great service. Food was mediocre and over priced. Menu selections were very limited !"
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "The chicken Caesar sandwich was disappointing. It was hard to eat because the large chicken piece in the sandwich and the lettuce and dressing kept slipping out of the focaccia bread. So it was very messy."

  • "Outstanding view complimented by service & food that was very good"

  • "Had a wonderful meal in beautiful surroundings. Our server (Dan) was attentive and knew the menu. Prices are on the high side but well worth the money."

  • "The view, food and service was incredible BUT I found a hair in my crab cake sandwich. With that said the entire experience was very good except that made me have to pay more attention to looking for hairs than enjoying the experience. I do not plan to go back to this restaurant."
