Diner Reviews
  • "Sullivan's Steakhouse was great as usual. This is one of our favorite night-out places to dine."

  • "Decided to try sullivans again after being there in February on Valentrines day. I made reservations at 8:00pm and arrived promptly at that. The woman at the front said "okay well I have 4 groups ahead of you so it will be a bit" so we decided to sit in the bar. At 8:15 I checked back in and they had given my reservation away to someone else. We were finally seated at 8:30 to a frantic server who made a point to make us feel completely rushed. Food was great and price was decent. I will try again becasue I know that is just a fluke bad experience. *crosses fingers*"

  • "Everything was great, our server was very attentive to us, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was quiet without being uncomfortably so. I have definitely recommended this place to many friends and will continue to do so."

  • "The shrimp and lobster bisque I had was not to my liking, nor was the three cheese mac (my wife liked the mac though). The mushroom caps were good. The steak...the steak was what I had been searching for for 6 years. It was amazing! It's better than any steak I could find in Fairbanks. I didn't want to brush my teeth that night, just incase I had some of the steak stuck in there for me to taste again later. I was emotionally moved to eat that steak. I still think about it at night."

  • "Clean, great food, service was great. Not typical for Anchorage. Over the years, the home grown restaurant scene has gotten progressively worse. We only eat at few restaurants in anchorage, none of which are home grown. The home grown crowd now specializes in unique cooking, or should I say bizarre cooking. Sullivan's has a great menu, and the food preparation is fantastic."

  • "We have been here many, many times - principally because it is consistently outstanding. This visit was no different. We are, indeed fortunate to have such a fine establishment in our community"

  • "The greeter at the front door was on the phone when we entered and didn't bother to acknowledge us as he continued talking on the phone. He also appeared a bit more unkempt than what we're typically used to seeing. We found out later that he was a last minute fill in. Management should at least ensure greeters are adequately trained because the greeter is typically the first person the public interacts with when entering the restaurant and should make the first best impression for the restaurant."

  • "Wonderful romantic spot for friendly service and great food!"

  • "Previous visits to Sullivan's have always been outstanding but this time it was anything but. There was hardly anyone else in the entire restaurant so it being to busy was not the reason. Both my steak and my daughters steak were cooked to a crisp on the outside. This is not how I have had my steaks here in the past and really i should have complained. If I had ordered mine extra well done or even well done i could see burning it on the outside and somewhat into the second layer but i didn't. I ordered it medium. Very disappointing. Second was the service. It was not the top notch service we had in the past. Drinks went unfilled and dirty dishes sat on the table till the server came with the next course."

  • "On your way to the PAC for the symphony or opera? Can't beat the Prix Fixe menu for variety, taste, price and efficiency of service. They did not rush, but got us out in plenty of time to walk to the PAC. My out of town guests were truly impressed with the quality and presentation of the food. Normally, when I go to Sullivan's without out of town guests or when not in a hurry to get to the PAC, I would rather order from the regular menu but the Prix Fixe is a nice feature for the pre-show crowd. I keep hoping the Grand Marnier Sufflee will reappear on the menu."

  • "This was one of many visits to Sullivan's for me while entertaining guests. I have yet to be disappointed. Kevin always comes out to greet us at our table and makes sure we have everything we need."

  • "I took my husband to Sullivan's following his return from deployment and he had just missed his birthday the week before he returned. The staff was amazing and the managers were awesome."

  • "We've been going to Sullivan's for several years. The food is fantastic, excellent martini's, and normally the service is superb. We we're extremely disappointed this in the service. Our dinner service felt rushed, my wife's meal was not correct, after the server repeating it to us. Our server disappeared for long periods of time, argued with us on the incorrect order, and our meals and appetizers all came out within second of each other. I overheard the table next to us with similar issues. I believe this was a one-off experience, because in the past we have had a fantastic experience and superb service."

  • "We went for lunch. We were seated quickly by a very pleasant hostess. Our server was friendly, attentive, quick to take our orders, knowledgable of the menu, and offered suggestions when asked. Our water glasses were always kept filled. We highly recommend the seared ahi appetizer with ponzu sauce. It's located inthe fifth avenue mall and the parking garage is kitty-corner to the mall. Very relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff, and something for all the foodies in the group."

  • "Excellent food, excellent service, very professional, fun, and enthusiastic. The entire staff including the Master Chef visited our table (and not in a annoying way) giving the ultimate experience at their restaurant. Every employee showed pride and enjoyment while providing excellent service. This is a Five Star business not only because the cuisine is awesome but because the employees and staff make it a Five Star place. The employees reflect the excellent management and leadership of this fine establishment, kudos to this this "rare dying breed" of establishments. At the top of my list of restaurants in Anchorage. Make the staff of Sullivans instructors to all restaurant owners on how to get it right, they got it right in my book!"

  • "Very expensive and the food was good but not outstanding. We had a very good waiter and the service overall was very good. Not disappointing particularly because of the friendly waiter we had, but nothing to rave about especially given the price."

  • "Been to Sullivan's several times. Usually always happy with service and food. This time however lacking in both departments! It was a Saturday evening and crowded but seemed to have plenty of staff. Very slow in all aspects, and then when dinner arrived steak was overcooked. Hope this isn't an indication of things to come. Will give them another chance since always have liked the place!"

  • "Pros: 1. Food was good to great on average for three meals. 2. We had reservations and were seated on-time. 3. Comp my meal for bad service. See below. Good gesture Cons: 1. Waited a long time to be served, first round of wine took about 15m, entrees about 45m. 2. My steak was cooked very rare. My order was for medium. 3. Took another 30m to get my steak back. Everyone else was done with dinner. Ate off my wife's plate so took my meal home. 4. Wine glasses and water glasses stood empty with no requests for refill or more wine. One caveat. It was very very busy. So that might of attributed to the less than stellar experience. We plan on going back at a slower time."

  • "We were there for Valentines Day. We had reservations but had to wait an hour. Staff was very courteous and apologetic. Wasn't to thrilled with "special menu". Our steaks were tough and chewy. Everyone was packed in like sardines. Would try it again just not on a special holiday or occasion. Would like to go when they have a full menu to choose from."

  • "While not on the level of a Ruth's Chris, this was a fine choice in Anchorage. Service was exceptional given that one of our party had some severe restrictions on her diet, and the admittedly novice waiter got the necessary assistance in ensuring her comfort. The food was good adpnd the cocktails just fine. The price fixed menu were good as well. Regular prices are high."

  • "For the first time in three years I was disappointed with my meal. My steak was under cooked, my husband's steak was over cooked, the Mac and Cheese had no salt and you couldn't taste the Smoked Gouda cheese at all (worst than Velveeta). After the meal was completed we didn't see our waiter for another 15 minutes. We went to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary and for the $250 we were charged for our meal it should have tasted as such. Again, this was the first time I have ever had anything negative to say about Sullivan's so I hope my next experience is what I have grown accustomed to over the past three years."

  • "My husband and I spent our 5 year anniversary here and it was amazing The server was so sweet and attentive, the food was absolutely delicious, and the bar made a taste mojito."

  • "My husband and I went to Sullivan's one night for date night and were very impressed. When our 5 yr anniversary came up we knew exactly where we wanted to celebrate. I can honestly say the staff was more than sincere to the fact that we were celebrating an anniversary. We were greeted by not only the hostess congratulating us on our anniversary but several wait staff and the manager. They took our anniversary dinner to a whole other level and I look forward to celebrating our anniversary there for years to come. The food was superb, Terry our server and his server trainee were very attentive to our needs even with the restaurant being busy. The steak literally melts in your mouth. I would definitely recommend Sullivan's. -Very Impressed"

  • "The butter and sauces they provide for the steaks OH MY GOD its like heaven just opens in your mouth. The caramel apple martini is oh so tasty-personally I would leave off the salt. The lobster/shrimp bisque was divine-order the bowl instead of the cup. The 3 mac n cheese was ordered by 2 folks at our table, it was NOT a WOW factor. The ravioli had a bit of spice and was very meaty. As long as you realize that everything on the menu is sold separately. When you order a steak, that is ALL you get. The key lime pie, meh. Honestly, Ive had better. Its thick there tho. 2 folks ordered the choc cake and loved it. Creme brule was a hit for sure. Bring lots of money lol!!"

  • "The Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls are amazing. We dined with our 2 and 4 year old children, there is no kids menu but the restruant was very willing to let the kids split a 8oz filet and mac&cheese. We frequent the restruant and often bring guest when they are visiting"

  • "I made reservations for a valentines day dinner. When I showed up they said there was a wait because the were running behind. After 45 minutes I decided to call to call it quits and went somewhere else to eat. I'm a little upset because I made the reservations for a reason and they over booked themselves for the holiday and couldn't get us in until it was almost an hour later."

  • "Have been to Sullivans many times....but NEVER had satisfactory service. Waiters are gone way too long...they never come back to check on our drinks or our concerns. It really, really is terrible when you have a wonderful $40 steak, but you can't enjoy it because the server never comes back to bring you more wine or bread. That's how good the food is...despite the worst service in Anchorage, we keep coming back. We like being ignored!!"

  • "We were sat at our table promptly for our reservation, and the staff was friendly. When we waited in the bar prior to the reservation it was incredibly disorganized and we had to walk around to find our server in order to close out the tab. We were sat in a back room in a corner, which was fine, but our table top was so loose and unsturdy just trying to cut our steak was knocking things over. It was awful. Our server was nice, however the time between our appetizers and our meal was extremely long. I would say the staff did a good job, the food was good, but the ambiance at our table and the bar service was horrible. The unstable table was not acceptable to have any customer sit at. Not somewhere I would go again for a holiday dinner."

  • "My husband, Terence & I don't normally eat steak out because no one ever gets it quite right. However, for our first dining experience at Sullivan's, the steak was surprisingly delicious. Not to mention the salad and the appetizer. The atmosphere was romantic and inviting. I only wished we were able to enjoy the jazz music along with our meal. The next time we can leave our jobs and kids in Fairbanks, we will return again. Thanks for the experience! Terence & Marlo Daniel"

  • "My wife and I have been going to Sullivans for a number of years for birthdays and anniversaries. We were seated at a table with a top that would spin back and forth..I was waiting for it to fall off. We asked our waiter ( Scott ) about it; he tried to fix it, but was unable to. We were seated in a room separate from the main dining area, which I did not appreciate, since I made reservations at least a mounth in advance. The food was ok, but not the best I have had at Sullivan's, that is for sure. Scott our waiter was the only positive..he gets 6 stars!!! It is a shame that we had a bad experience this time, because we really liked it here."

  • "The food is excellent and our server Brian was the best I have had in years. The booth was too small for 4 adults to eat comfortably and the tables are too close together which took away form the whole experience. Good food great service not the best total experience I would go back for the food but will choose other restaurants for special occasions which is too bad. I would have liked to checked several other boxes above but can not!"

  • "After being seated in a converted large group dining area littered with too many small tables that offered very little elbow room and no privacy for conversing, the hostess found us booth seating in the main area that I had requested online a month earlier . Once we were seated our beverages, bread and special Valentines Day menu meal arrived in a timely manner and was prepared to perfection as expected. The entire meal was very good and our mood had recovered after the seating debacle. Our reservations were at 5:30 pm which turned out to be the right time frame because as we left the restaurant the lobby was crowded and the line was out the door. All in all the evening turned out great and set the mood for the follow on concert."
