Diner Reviews
  • "It was awkward the wine/beer list was on an iPad. I much prefer the tradition book of listings. It took more time going back and forth between the different selections. Much easier to flip a page. When our waiter approached our table, there was no Hello my name is..., Tonight's special is..., Have you dined with us before? Only "Yes Please" with a pad of paper in his hand. We were taken aback by this and were like, oh okay - I guess we'll order. When he approached our table again to take our entrée order - I specifically asked for his name. It was at that time he perked up and became more friendly. Our food tasted good, not a very long wait time. However, bit overpriced. We dine at Shaw's, Gibson's etc"

  • "Steaks were incredible. Sushi was very good. I strongly reccomend the octopus for an appetizer."

  • "I had the ribeye, medium rare, and it was very good, but quite rare. It was a wonderful blend of flavor and tenderness, that makes for an outstanding steak, and so being slightly undercooked was not a detraction at all. However, my girlfriend had the 12 oz. filet mignon, also ordered medium rare, but it was quite severely undercooked. Most of the meat was still raw, and not edible. However, the mussel pot appetizer, tuna tartar, and the roasted asparagus were all outstanding."

  • "Had a wonderful birthday dinner here. Service was outstanding! Waiter was help. We weren't rushed to order or to eat. Food was outstanding. Had the best sea bass ever. Parking was the only problem. Had to wait about twenty minutes to retrieve our car? Did put a damper on an otherwise perfect celebration!"

  • "We had such a great experience. The steaks were big in size and flavor- cooked to perfection. Our server, Anthony, was helpful and gave great suggestions. He also treated us to dessert on the house. Perfect evening!"

  • "Live in the burbs, go into the city about 10 times/year. Came in this past weekend to see a show and had purchased a Travelzoo prix fix coupon for Stetsons. (We do this quite often so that we can try restaurants we might not otherwise try.) This was, by far, the best meal with the best service we have ever had. Hussain, our server, could not have been more attentive and his suggestions were "right on". When you eat out often, the food often becomes "common" -- I don't want to say boring, but everything about what we had was different. The appetizer was served with some freshly made cheesy crackers (the blue crab dip); we ordered (optional) sauces with our steaks, but they were not necessary--steaks were wonderfully seasoned on their own."

  • "It is not your typical "manly" steakhouse but a modern, refind one. It is beautiful and I can say it was the best service of any place I have ever been. Our waitress has been there(she said) for 34 years and I have never experienced the service she gave us. I definately say give it a try and you will not be sorry you did. Not cheap, but well worth the visit!!!!"

  • "A group of us came to celebrate my husband's birthday. The flat bread and mussels for our appetizers, was amazing. The dinner rolls were weird. We didn't like the eggy taste and texture. For dinner we have ribeyes and lamb chops. The lamb was outstanding. The ribeyes were good, but some were a bit fatty and one looked like a strip steak. The drinks were really good! The service was top notch."

  • "This fabulous steakhouse was selected initially for it's proximity. Future visits will be because it is now in the proximity of the TOP of our list. This modern restaurant and bar is warm and inviting. Top notch bar service, prompt dining service, inviting kitchen viewing and excellent preparations. The food was wonderful!!! Highly recommend, try it and enjoy."

  • "Stetson is a steak and sushi place. We elected for the steak route. Decor modern, steak was perfectly cooked. $48 for 16oz ribeye was a little high since everything was a la carte. Bread, sides, deserts were ok nothing special."

  • "My wife and I were in town for a convention, and tried out Stetson's at the Hyatt Regency. For a restaurant in a hotel, it was excellent. You literally don't know you are in a large convention hotel. Service was good, and the food was excellent."

  • "My best friend and I took advantage of a Travelzoo voucher and met at Stetson's on a Saturday night. From the moment we sat at the bar for a quick cocktail to the dessert and presentation of the check, it was wonderful. The quality of service, our excellent steaks, the creamed corn, the by-the-glass list, all of it was superb. Occasionally, service falters when staff learned of a voucher deal, expecting the cheapest and low-tipping patrons. This was not the case. Our server treated us with kindness, grace, and attention. I have added Stetson's to my recommendation list for locals and visitors, and will happily return to try many of the other tantalizing items on the menu."

  • "The food is not at all bad for a hotel restaurant, but the night we went, they ran out of the most appealing item on the menu (Cornish game hen). It was very irritating that the quite expensive main courses came with no vegetables or side dishes, which had to be ordered separately in the form of pricey "sides.""

  • "There is a good chance that Stetsons won't actually check you in even if you tell them that you made reservations through Open Table, so be prepared for an email asking about why you didn't show up when you actually did. The restaurant is also VERY hot, so if you wear a sweater, be prepared to be uncomfortable. The wine list, annoyingly only available on iPads issued by the restaurant, is extremely overpriced in most cases, even for a hotel restaurant. The Chateau Montelena Cabernet is a good choice though. The grilled octopus was actually pretty good, and though it's listed as an appetizer, it's really the size of about two entrees. Be sure to ask for lemon with it, though they'll likely forget."

  • "Service was good, the food even better. It was a quiet night in these restaurant area and everyone around was more then willing to help out with anything needed. A great spot for a date night in Chicago."

  • "Just another steak restaurant in a sea of steak restaurants. Last ate here 30 years ago - and it was better then. They used to give you hefty steak knives, now they give you little ones. They stratal the fence on whether or not the meat is grass-fed. Still not sure. Rib Eye was good, but not the best I have ever had, and not the worst. Pretty much in the middle. The service was young and inexperienced and forgot to bring the French Onion Soup while my son was eating his salad. When he finally realized his mistake, he brought it and then brought our entrees a minute later and plopped them down on the table literally after two spoons of soup were consumed. In general the steak prices are at the higher end of Chicago steak restaurants."

  • "Our experience at Stetson's was absolutely wondeful. The service was probably the best and most professional we have ever had in an up-scale restaurant. Our waiter was extremely helpful and his recommendations were right on every time. The ribeye and accompanying herb sauce (on the side) was delicious. Best side dish: Mac & cheese with lobster! Albeit pricey, this meal was worth every dollar! If you are willing to pay for a "sure thing" this is the place to go."

  • "The food was ok nothing spectacular. I would suggest steak over sushi and prepare to wait awhile between courses."

  • "Stetson's is a pleasant place to eat. Well suited to business or intimate dining. Coming from a smaller town, in my opinion, the food was over priced but on par with other restaurants of its caliber. Would recommend, and would go again"

  • "Celebrates our 4 year anniversary here. The food was divine. The popovers were so amazing my bf and I each had 2 of them then requested some to go (and I'm not a big carb eater at all!). They tasted like moist cheesy flaky croissants. The cap steak and ribeye were incredibly flavorful and very tender. The choice of sauces were diverse and complimented the meat well, although they were so delicious I didn't feel they even needed anything. Our server Jose was very attentive & considerate without being obtrusive or annoying. He was great and really made the evening special & enjoyable. A great dining experience. Would go there again next time we're in Chicago."

  • "This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The atmosphere is very classic, but modern, and has a great energy. I didn't get to order sushi, but the rest of the meal was incredible. The wedge salad was the most unique and brilliant first course, followed by the most flavorful filet. My boyfriend had the cap steak, which was also amazing. Our service was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the entire experience!"

  • "While all of the food was excellent, as is the case so often now everything is served a la carte, so it is a little pricey. The wait staff was very very attentive."

  • "My son and me were orphaned at Thanksgiving and had a wonderful dinner, mostly sushi, at Stetsons. We liked the atmosphere which was casual but also special. Service was very good. The valet parking made it much easier than usual (after struggling to find the restaurant), the valet was a doll and overall, a great night."

  • "Dinner started with a California Roll (Sushi - neither of us had had sushi prior) and found it enjoyable. We each had the ribeye steak and a vegetable side. We finished dinner off by sharing the chocolate cake. A very enjoyable evening. This is a nice place for a quite special occasion but expect to drop $75 per person plus any drinks."

  • "I attend an annual conference in Chicago and wanted to eat at Stetson's last year, but couldn't due to its rennovation. I was glad we reserved a table for this year's conference. Steaks were great and we had the best table in the house - right next to the fireplace. We had fillet's and sides. All was perfect! I would highly recommend this to anyone."

  • "There was a constant humming sound in the background. May have been the exhaust fans over the sushi bar. Didn't bother my husband. Bothered me."

  • "To start off the service was excellent 5 star quality french type service. The bar and wine list was very good and had a large selection list from medium to top shelf items. The appetizer we chose was the grilled calamari, which was plated nicely and had some interesting flavor to a dish that normally is battered and fried. The lobster bisque was full of flavor and quite good. For the main dish we ordered skirt steak, ribeye, and 2 rolls of sushi. The steaks were cooked a little more than what was requested but not bad, the sushi was below average for what they charge, it had tasted like it was in a refrigerator for a couple of days with the freezer burn taste not what i was expecting for the almost $20 a roll, very disappointing."

  • "I was a guest at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. We chose to try Stetson's & were pleasantly surprised. My husband was really happy with the seafood mixed grill - a lot of food!!! My mother ordered the small skirt steak. It was the perfect amount for a smaller appetite. It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I had the Chilean sea bass & it was a very generous portion. We loved the fact that you are able to choose from a variety of sauces to go with the entrees. The chimichurri with the sea bass was fabulous. We each ordered a side dish to share. I could have eaten the whole plate of asparagus with horseradish cheese myself! It was amazing, but so was the mac & cheese with lobster. Service was attentive but not overbearing."

  • "For higher end prices, this place is just so so. The food was okay, but they ran out of baked potatoes. The ambience was noisy and the place crowded. Trying to fit in more tables that the place needs, plus a din from loud and overimbibed people two tables over kills the mood. Didn't really find the sashimi that fresh. The service is okay but an awful lot of people seem needed to oversee getting food from the kitchen to the table."

  • "Food was excellent, the choices plenty, and the service was great. We were a little crowded at our table for two- it was very small. Really liked the purse hanger!"
