Diner Reviews
  • "We visited Stella Rossa after seeing "Pinkalicious" at the Walnut Street Theater. We went there for the meatballs... our little princess' favorite food. They were excellent... our pear salads and pizza were too! A terrific find... so close! The service was great, the atmosphere very nice.... we had a wonderful time! Thank you Stella Rosa!!!"

  • "This is a wonderful night out for really good food and drinks with friends. Our second time to Stella Rossa and we were not disappointed. From the minute we walked into the restaurant we experieced a friendly staff and awesome service. Every part of our night was wonderful and I have to give a huge shout out to our waiter, Andre who was the best and made our evening all the more enjoyable. Thank you to Andre and Stella Rossa - we, most certainly will be back soon and will be singing your praises to everyone we can!"

  • "Enjoyable dinner before theater. Good food and atmosphere."

  • "We had a very good experience dining here before the theater. The menu is extensive and the portions are generous. I recommend the caprese salad. The balsamic vinaigrette was sweet and the tomatoes firm. Our waitperson was very knowledgeable and not intrusive. My only complaint was the noise level of the music. Because of that, i wouldn't come here for a business meeting or a date."

  • "We went to this restaurant because it was a block from the theater where we were going after dinner. Overall it was good but not exceptional. Portions were adequate. Décor was very nice. This restaurant has potential in a great area for dinners going to several theaters in the area."

  • "I have read so many reviews about this restaurant. Some were good, others not too good. We needed a place to eat dinner prior to the theater and the location to this restaurant was perfect. I decided to try it and made my reservation for the 5 of us. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was GREAT! We had a really good experience. This comes to show you, that reviews are only a person's personal opinion. You must try things on your own and make your personal decision."

  • "The staff is very friendly and the second time we went there it was better than the first. They give you a discount if you're going to the Walnut Street Theatre. We'll go back again."

  • "Great service, very good food. Timing perfect for going to WST. Noise level (we were downstairs) was quite loud.Hard to hear waiter and dinner conversation."

  • "Such friendly service. Great lunch special of soup or salad and sandwich. Had a nice lunch at the bar dining solo. I noticed others also dining solo. It's a comfortable place to do just that."

  • "Nice location. One block from Walnut Street Theater. Our waiter was great. The braised meatball appetizer is delicious."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "My only complaint was that our wine was poured into glass tumblers--NOT wine glasses. Since it was a white wine, we'd have preferred not to warm it with our hands while holding the glass."

  • "French Toast was different and delicious. Very friendly service. Perfect before the Walnut St. Theatre."

  • "We traveled to Philly for business -We booked a reservation from previous reviews since our son was diagnosed with celiac's FINALLY! - great pasta dishes - some had recommended the pizza but we were told to avoid - Best pasta dish with crab EVER! So happy we found Stella Rossa! The Service was fantastic! Thank you for making our evening!"

  • "It was a cold Sunday and Stella Rosa offered warmth and good food before we went to WST. It was our second time there , but it won't be our last. Jimmy, our waiter was superb. He explained the specials and was very attentive. When told we were members going to the show, he deducted a discount."

  • "We went and look at other reviews and many liked the pizza and pasta. We were looking for something different so tried here, nothing bad to say just ratings are way high. Pizza was small and not very tasty, cheese plate wasn't good as sides were small and didn't go with cheese, pasta we ordered was poor. No flavor and amount of a side dish. Overall we left still hungry. It wasn't pricey so that was good since we didn't have big portions. Service was ok,,,very quick but rushed. And it wasn't crowded at all so not sure why the rush. I would not go back."

  • "My friends and I went to Stella Rossa for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious and not overpriced. We ordered a bottle of wine and appetizer to split, each had our own entrees and all had dessert. With tax and tip, we each only spent about $35. Definitely worth the price. Additionally, when we had finished our meal and paid, we were encouraged to stay and talk. Great experience and a lovely staff with a fun combination of modern and rustic décor."

  • "Stella Rosa is very convenient to the Walnut Street Theater and is much better than the prior two restaurants located here. They have a nice selection of menu items including wines at various sizes and price points, cocktails, appetizers, pastas, pizzas and salads. The servers are friendly, although they could use more training on the food. They just changed some aspects of the menu and our waiter could not answer some basic questions. However, he made up for that by his niceness, attention and pacing. They are very tuned into the needs of theatergoers and keep tabs on the time. They even give a theater discount when they know you are attending a show that night. Even if you are not attending the theater, it is certainly worth a try."

  • "Went to Stella Rossa for dinner pre theater with an elderly couple. Server was energetic but obviously overwhelmed by heavy pre theater crowd. Warned the server that we had tickets for theater AND we needed extra time for elderly w/walker to walk to theater after dinner. We had to leave to walk to theater before entrees were served even though tables who came in after us were finished. Manager was gracious - packing and sending our entrees home with us while canceling our check. Server, not so much - shoulder shrug saying oh well he got slammed so thats how it goes. Entrees eaten after the theater were ok, not great but the managers gallant action will have me give the place another try."

  • "We had extremely poor service, to the point where we actually ate our pizza with our hands after requesting silverware twice!!! It was a constant request of water and our check, which was calculated wrong also. Just an overall disapppointmnet for a Saturday night dinner out!!! We go to the Walnut St Theater often, will not be back to the STELLA!!!"

  • "We had the MahiMahi that was grilled and was very delicious. Our waiter was a little slow coming back to us. We went to the theatre after dinner and they gave us a 15% discount on our bill, so that was nice."

  • "Try to get a booth upstairs which is so much prettier. Good lunch special: soup or salad and choice of panini for $9.99."

  • "We were looking for a restaurant at the last minute once we got done at the Flower Show. We chose Stella Rossa due to the postive reviews. We were not disappointed. My family enjoyed the food, the atomsphere, and the service."

  • "Had dinner here a few nights ago. The service was horrible - the waitress was rushed and then took forever to actually get our drinks. The server spilled my friends dinner on her and didn't even notice. The food was terrible. Sauces were bland and watery. The only good thing was my blood orange mojito - if it hadn't taken 15 minutes to get one I probably would have ordered another. Don't go here."

  • "It's convenient for the Walnut Street Theater, but other than that, it's not great. The Chicken Maximus if flavorless and the Chicken Parm, though not bad, had terrible Pasta Alfredo with it. They need to work on their menu flavors."

  • "Good location near Walnut Street Theater. The salmon was a little underdone, so if you want it cooked through, make sure to say so."

  • "We were looking for a nice restaurant to enjoy pizza and friends. Our experience was not good. Our waiter (I don't remember his name) did not know much about the beer list. Also, this beer list had the wrong prices listed. In addition, we ordered 2 salads (as entrees) and both were lacking their signature ingredients. We were told that they "ran out". At the end, we got the bill and were charged full price for everything."

  • "We ate here before seeing a show at the WST. I had Veal Saltimbocca and it was out of this world - outstanding! I felt that too many potatoes were served versus the amount of veal served. My dining companions had Shrimp Scampi and Eggplant Parm, both were fantastic. The Eggplant dish was very large though and since we were going to a show, we could not get the leftovers wrapped to go. I had the cannoli dessert, served shot glass style. It was so delicious and the price was right! No noise issue even though the place was full. 2 negatives: 1) Servers not allowed to introduce themselves "they are they to serve, not make friends" Crazy! 2) My wine carafe was cracked, it never should've been served, I had to ask for new wine."

  • "Very pleased with our dining experience. My in-laws were visiting, and are particularly "selective" when it comes to cuisine. They like italian food so i decided to try out Stella Rossa. We arrived a half-hour earlier than what are reservations were for, and they happily seated us right away. Service was fast and efficient, and very pleasant. We got a cheese plate and the assorted olives plate, which came out almost immediately. Salads were fresh and huge. Main entrees took a little longer than expected to arrive at the table, but that may only have seemed that way since the appetizers came out so fast. Everyone loved their entrees, portions were large, and prices were affordable. Will be back."

  • "Food was not outstanding but I would definitely try it again because of the gluten free menu. They provide lots of options! Yay!!"

  • "Food was good but service was not. Our food came too quickly, salad came as soon as we started drinking wine. The entrees came half way thru the salad. Good location for theater goers and we will give it another try. I know they were opened a short time. They need to work on the service."

  • "Terrible traffic approaching and in Center City the night we went to Stella Rossa made us late caused us to have to rush through our dinner so that we could make 8:00 curtain at the Walnut Theater. Maitre'd and wait staff were understanding and served our appetizers and entrees as quickly as they could, and we were able to make the 8:00 PM show on time. This was our second visit to Stella Rossa, and the second time we had to rush through dinner to make the show at the Walnut. We intend to return to Stella Rossa when we don't have a theater engagement, so we can have a nice relaxing dinner. The food was good, generally, but not outstanding. Prices are fair. We'll return."
