Diner Reviews
  • "During the appetizer, we had to ask for the bread. After ordering a second drink, we had to remind the server to bring it. After the appetizer, we sat and sat and sat, wondering where the main was. The swordfish dish was interesting and tasty...except the swordfish was dry and crumbly. Our guests commented that they weren't ready for the number of patrons that night. It was a Friday night. If not Friday, when would you be ready?"

  • "Square One is on Duval Square, just off busy Duval St., but it felt miles away--outdoor seating that was peaceful and relaxing. (they also do have indoor seating). We ordered 2 different fish entrees, which were very good, but the butternut squash ravioli appetizer was awesome. Service was friendly and good."

  • "Our server Danny was great! Everything from the salads to desert delicious. The shrimp risotto is something you cant pass up. Definitely one of our highlights of our time in key west!"

  • "We had a very poor experience at this restaurant which I detailed on Tripadvisor. BUT, we were extremely impressed that the restaurant contacted us following that review and was very keen to remedy the situation. Despite our poor experience, Kudos for customer service. This is a restaurant that cares about its customers and deserves to be given a try. The restaurant and location is very pleasant, away from the hustle and bustle with friendly front of house staff."

  • "We come to KW each year for a month and this our required stop. The food is great, the service is great and we usually gladly over eat."

  • "A friend suggested we try this place. We went with another couple and our only complaint is that the tables were too small for four people to dine comfortably. Our waitress (Helen I believe) was the best we had All week. The seafood lasagna was to die for. The food was fantastic! This is definitely on our list for next time!"

  • "Loved the location on Duval. Food was as fabulous as the service!!"

  • "Carolyn has done a stellar job with Square One. Everything about the restaurant is first class from John and Ed, the best servers anywhere, to the incredible Caesar Salad and Crab Cakes! If they could just pipe down Baby, the parrot next door, it would be the best restaurant in Key West! Maybe she should consider reopening Square One for lunch?????????"

  • "If you are looking for a quite romantic place away from the craziness of Duval St this is the place! It's easy to get to because it's technically on Duval, but feels it feels like its in its own little neighborhood as it is tucked away slightly off the main strip. Although the portions are small the food was amazing. We had a great experience."

  • "The restaurant is on Duval Street but some distance away from the more hectic area closer to the harbor. Our hotel concierge suggested this spot and it was an excellent choice. Food was delicious, service was great, and presentation was beautiful. I would go back if I'm in Key West again."

  • "We had an excellent dinner at SQOne. My wife and I sat on the patio and they even offered a blanket for my notoriously cold wife's legs. By the way it was truly quite pleasant that evening. A nice touch I thought. The whole yellowtailed snapper was excellent and had a spectacular presentation and the veggie tagine was a great match. Service was very good and the wine list fairly priced. A quiet spot just off upper Duval with free parking. Go and enjoy."

  • "John, our waiter, was very nice and did a great job. The food, on the other hand, was not good. We had carpaccio, lamb chops and the hog fish. The carpaccio lacked flavor and was cut too thick. The lamb chop lacked flavor and initially was brought out VERY rare when my husband had ordered medium rare. The hog fish also lacked flavor. We had the above dishes and 2 glasses of wine...all in all, not worth the $96. price tag."

  • "Far and away the best restaurant in Key West! Great food, great service, great location out of the loud and tourist area on Duval. This is a must try."

  • "Food was good but do tell the customer if the item on the menu will be different from what is being served. Although pasta may be pasta, if one is expecting spaghetti pasta but the meal comes out with linguine -- make that note."

  • "As always, we think Square One is the place to go for the best dinner in Key West. Both Ed and John excel in the art of perfect service. We have tried almost everything on the menu and have yet to find anything we don't care for. Here's hoping they decide to open for lunch again soon!"

  • "VIP considered as an ordinary foreign tourist Upon receipt of the invoice is added roughly a 20% gratuity. Even if the service was excellent the process is inelegant in this case because an OpenTable VIPcustomer knows that a judicious gratuity has to be added to the invoice."

  • "Party of 5, the seafood -- catch of the day and a shrimp dish - was a bit overcooked marring otherwise reasonable food. Ate a 5 other places on key west and this was our family's least favorite experience of the bunch. We tend to eat dinner earlier than most on Key West and upon arriving found just 1 other outside table occupied. Being from a part of the country that was under 4+ feet of snow at the time, eating outdoors was a treat.... but at first we were told no outside tables were available even though 6 were unoccupied and I'd made reservations 4 months in advance of our vacation. They did end up allowing us to sit outside, but they could have hassled us less about it."

  • "We had great meals at Banana Cafe. Although I felt mine was the least favorite. I had Mahi with beets and risotto and it lacked flavor. But my beet salad was fantastic. Bone in pork chop was great, tuna nicoise also. Scallops were delicious. The yellowtail snapper my husband had was the best on the island. One negative, our meals came out three at a time, and then there was a delay of five minutes before the next three...this was probably a fluke in the kitchen so I wouldn't worry for next time. Desserts looked good as they past our table. The tables were roomy, noise level great. People were skeptical when I made the reservation on open table because the place looks kind of hippy-casual California, circa 1969."

  • "We had a nice outside table. Server tried hard, but he was really struggling: first course did not come and dinner arrived so quickly that we were still working on our first drink. He did give us a complimentary dessert and coffee so we could ask for no more than that. The short ribs were awesome. The angus burger was good enough, but fries were very ordinary. Asparagus side dish was well prepared. The key lime pie was excellent. Nice location and worth a dinner if you are here for 5-7 nights."

  • "I now know that Key West is known more for drinking than eating. Menu selection was different than shown on line. Selection was average. Wine list was ok. Wait staff were friendly but read the specials off their pads.Bar looked good but overall food was average.Nothing really complex super interesting. Overall disappointed."

  • "We were waited on by the owners son, he wasn't real knowledgable but what a sweet heart, he took such good care of us. The food was spectacular, good wine. We had a great time and will be back"

  • "After reading the online information, I chose this restaurant as it offered steak tartare, my husband's favorite. When we arrived, it was not on the menu. When we asked, the waiter said they could provide it on request, so we ordered it. Instead of getting chopped steak with the standard tartare ingredients mixed in, we got ground meat, surrounded by small piles or containers of the typical ingredients and a raw egg sitting on top of the meat. At a previous restaurant (in Quebec City), the steak was chopped and the ingredients blended by the water, tableside. This was a disappointing version of a raw delicacy. Additionally, the service was very uneven, with my entree showing up considerably later than my husband's."

  • "Since arriving to Key West, we have eaten here two times (dinner). The seafood is excellent and the preparation is meticulous. Portions are just right. Servers are attentive and professional. The location is just off Duval, so it is more quiet (if this is what you are looking for). Very nice outdoor patio with less foot traffic than you would find on Duval. Expect to spend $80-110 for two, including drinks."

  • "Service is a bit off although other tables fared better than us. Very typical restaurant in key west. How it did well on open table surprises me. I had to keep pleading for water and my spouse ordered a glass of wine which never arrived but was on the bill although they removed it once we pointed it out. Not once did mgmt come over and ask how our meal was. With so many other choices I suggest you go elsewhere."

  • "Wow, what a find! The lobster linguini was amazing and so was the calamari to start -best I've had anywhere, I'd say. Service was also very attentive and professional - a real class act from start to finish. One small gripe - my grouper was a VERY small piece - accompanied by just two stalks of asparagus and some potatoes. It tasted great but just seemed a little skimpy, that's all - I'll get the lobster pasta next time for sure! Anyway, I was really stuffed by the end of the meal, so can't really complain too much about the portion size - which is why I am giving 5 stars. I'd go back in a heartbeat and would definitely recommend it to anyone - great place, great food, great service - don't miss it."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and happened upon this gem one night. Food is outstanding, service is impeccable. For my husband's birthday, I made an on line reservation and noted it was his birthday. Good thing since the place was packed on a Thursday night. We were greeted with a happy birthday wish, given a perfect table and were presented with a wonderful flour less chocolate cake with candle while the entire room sang happy birthday! Nice memory!"
