  • "Sorry Ferit, We've been coming to Spalti's under the prior ownership for many years. It was one of our favorite restaurants. I like what you have done with thenew bar and the way you have kept the ambiance, However, service was very poor. There were three of us for dinner. Service started slowly, first two of three drinks were incorrect (dirty martini's instead of dry with olives). Drinks were changed with no appology. The lettuce salad was excellent. We ordered the most expensive entres but on all three the plates were cold and the vegetables and mashed potatoes were cold. Two orders of lamb chops were cold, my steak was hot and done perfectly. Again no response from the waiter. After this we couldn't find our waiter for long periods."

  • "My wife and I have been eating here regularly for the last couple of years. Before that the owners seemed cold and acted as if you were lucky that they let you in to their restaurant. Now it is different. Since the new owners took over they really improved the place. The staff is more friendly and the service is usually very good. They are very hardworking and attentive. The kitchen has been improved and I think that they have had a new head chef for long enough that they produce consistently great dishes. Their pasta dishes are really worth trying if you have not done so yet. Setting is classy and polished but still warm and comforting."

  • "The service was wonderful and attentive. Not too crowded so that would have been a given. A bit dark for such an environment butI was not bothered by it. However, the food was bit less exciting. The Mahi Mahi I had was salty and hard. I needed a knife to cut it. No special flavors or textures to remember it by. My wife's lasagna had an unusual taste to it as well. Tasted like something that could come out of a box. Although they tried hard, I could not see myself returning to Spaltis"

  • "Spalti continues to be my favorite Italian restaurant in the Bay Area. Great food, great service. I eat there regularly (3-4 times per month) with family and work. They also have a great private dining room that seats 20-- great for work dinners. I'm a vegetarian, and they have great gnocchi. My family enjoy their chicken and seafood dishes. My son loves their linguini vongole, pasta with prawns, and crab ravioli. Great location in midtown Palo Alto, not as crowded as downtown PA. And I find their food to better than the Italian restaurants downtown."

  • "And no wonder. The hosts were very pleasant, but the service was disinterested and disorganized. The salad was very nice, but the pasta was not; couldn't eat the edges of the mezzaluna as it was seriously undercooked. The wine pour is the smallest I've seen in a while. When the riesling I'd ordered turned out to be dessert-sweet, like a late harvest bottling although not described as such as on the menu, it was replaced without argument."

  • "This was my 3rd visit to this restaurant so I obviously liked it -- at least in the past. I hosted a work dinner for 2 other guests-- one from out of town. When the server came to the table-- I asked if they could make a menu item slightly different from as described. She kind of paused and then said---- "well we have a big party in the back so I doubt they will make an alterations" At a minimum she could have said I will ask.. After ordering a moderate priced bottle of wine-- she came back and said i goofed we are out.. In the past usually offer the next offering for the same price.. but nothing... . Anyway, the starter salad was good, appetizers were ok -- nothing exceptional--- Pasta was fair at best."

The desert tasted like it was frozen and heated up.Service and people were really nice though. Ambience is nice too. It's just the food wasn't that great. With all the Italian places around, just doesn't make sense to go back."
