A word from Sovana Bistro
Sovana Bistro has been a staple in the Unionville community since opening in 1998 and has evolved into a highly regarded dining destination. The menu is made up of two sections - our well known "staples" and our always changing "taste of the season". The kitchen creates simple hand-made food, inspired from many areas of the world and seeks to source ingredients that are available in their appropriate season.

The service reflects a gracious approach to hospitality and genuine concern for each and every guest's experience.

  • "Got 8:30 reservations same day on Saturday night. It was quite loud when we arrived but found a place near the bar to wait. Upon sitting down, we were promptly approached by the waitstaff. All very courteous and attentive. We split the calamari appetizer - very good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I had the lamb special - delicious, very tender; and my mother had the pesto cavatappi - which she enjoyed very much. Interesting flavor profiles/pairings. Split the lemon cake desert - pound cake was standard, but the orange creme brûlée and lemon mousse were great. Overall great experience. Will definitely return!"

Our server had excellent timing related to "stopping over" and making sure everything tasted good but did careful not to interupt our conversation.   • "The dinner "entrees" are overpriced and extremely small. Additionally, entrée accompaniments are more like garnishes. Be sure to order a side. The food was good but nothing special. The staff description of the entrée vs. appetizer portions was very misleading. Also, it was unclear if the restaurant is or is not a BYOB. Many patrons walked in with bottles of wine. The website does not say anything about BYOB. Guess you have to be a regular to know. Stick to lunch for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Sovana Bistro is one of my go to restaurants. I know it will always be good, and I can always find something to enjoy. But this night was over the top. We walked in and were immediately seated for our reservation. On a very busy Saturday night none the less! The service was impeccable, attentive but not intrusive. And on this night, I found two dishes that were head and shoulders above any memorable meal there - The scallops as an appetizer, and the veal loin as an entree. My date and i were thoroughly amazed by both dishes as two of the best we have had ...... anywhere! Jess P you cared for us amazingly, and Nick, your talents behind the line keep showing me new skill. Thank you all for a truly memorable night!"

  • "Everything was great. We've been going there over 15 years and have seen it evolve from a casual place to a very fine resturant. My only complaint is about an obscure $3 charge for an appretive which the server could not clrealy explain. We spent over $160, so I was disappointed that the resturant management tries to nickle and dime customers at this level."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday, and it was our first time dining there. We had a very attentive server who sensed that we were there to enjoy each other's company, not eat and go. She took our order and asked if we would like our entree held for another 30 minutes so we would have time to just be together. The clam special appetizer was phenomenal, with my only complaint being that I wish there was more! I had a garden martini, made with vegetable infused vodka. I've never had a cocktail quite like it! They brought out his dessert with a candle, and wished him a happy birthday, and even wished him a happy birthday on our way out. We would go back to Sovana for another special occasion."

  • "I have eaten at Sovana several times now, and both the food and service never cease to amaze. The innovative use of local produce and exquisite meat and fish provide creative combinations of flavours and textures in all of the courses from the chef's "bouche amuse" (that little treat that comes even before your appetizer) all the way to dessert. The wine list is wonderful, the Sazerac is a wonderful version that would make any New Orleans bartender weep, and the creme brulee is simply divine. The choice of both fixed price and a la carte menus also make this restaurant unique. Having experienced both options, I can find no disadvantage to either. Kennett Square can count itself lucky to have this wonderful restaurant as a local treasure."

One of my co-workers had to leave early, and asked for a to-go part of his meal, which was promptly delivered. JR did a great job of putting together a tasty cheese plate for tasting. The braised lamb pizza was a new addition to the menu and was outstanding! The French Malbec (aged in a clay pot) is something we've been talking about for the last few days. All in all, delicious and a great place to eat!"

It was very busy when we went since it was friday night so we are lucky that we made the reservations. the quality of the food was great. i ordered the 10ox NY strip came out perfectly cooked. my girlfriend tried the octopus and absolutely loved it. the wine selection was very nice and the pours were decent for the price. needless to say we will be coming back here soon."

  • "Took friends here for birthday celebration. They'd never been and I think they enjoyed it. As the hosts my husband and I wanted everything to be perfect. It was 85% there. We've been going to Sovana for more than 10 years and in the last five I would say the quality of the food has dropped slightly - every time we go, something isn't up to par. This time it was mostly the service- definitely not attentive. Water glasses not filled, wine not poured or opened in a timely manner, left alone for long periods of time without checking our needs, etc. The whole experience is starting to feel sort of tired - thankfully the food is mostly really good. An excellent pizza, great salads, pastas inconsistent. LOVE that it's still BYOB."
