A word from Soby's
Soby’s New South Cuisine is an eclectic blend of Contemporary Continental cuisine infused with traditional Southern ingredients, transforming old favorite into something fresh and new. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Greenville, in a renovated cotton mill built in the 1800s. The atmosphere is warm and energetic and the staff is well-trained to provide a fantastic dining experience for all of our guests. In addition, the wine list offers more than 500 selections and is a Wine Spectator Magazine award-winner for the past eight years, a 'Best of Award of Excellence' the past two.

Soby's was recommended by a Greenville friend and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed four courses and all were outstanding! Highlights include the fried green tomatoes, the shrimp and grits, and the flat iron steak with their renowned sorghum steak sauce. Our server Michael was exceptional providing great suggestions and filling us in on the restaurant's history. Soby's was a memorable dining experience that we look forward to repeating in the near future. It was definitely worth the two hour drive...even on a very rainy day!"

  • "Food was good, but the shrimp and grits tasted like straight butter, and was kind of a pile where each component was dissolved. Deviled eggs and the quail were both great starters, along with the biscuits supplied. Snapper was a little overcooked, the hoppin' john and chow chow seemed to disappear, with the potatoes. Waitress was awesome, but seemed very stressed, it was very impressive for the kitchen to put out an enormous amount of good quality food with what seemed like a small kitchen. But the price point showed a lot of money was going to the overhead, four hostesses seemed to be a lot and space was huge to echo everything."

  • "Chose Soby's based on Open Table/ Trip Advisor reviews and a review of the menu. Was not disappointed with the food or service. The fried green tomatoes were tasty, a little heavy on the batter & sauce. Had the grilled trout-spot on. Fried red snapper was very good per oldest son. Shrimp & grits could compete with Charleston. Was not expecting the loudness of the background noise. You REALLY had to concentrate & use your best elocution to comprehend table conversation. The proprieters did a WONDERFUL job of converting this former cotton warehouse to a destination restaurant. I am jealous of Greenville! It is not the sleepy SE near-the-mountains city that I knew in the first half of my life!"

  • "Me and my wife went for our10th anniversary and we had a time of our lives The waiter name was Soup he payed special attention to us making us feel like family even had Happy Anniversary wrote in chocolate on our desert plate.Food was beyond amazing best Steak I've ever had and the fried green tomatoes were to die for The only thing that wasn't good was the cappuccino had no flavor but overall the meal was amazing amazing amazing."

My husband's steak was cooked perfectly and the crab cakes are creamy and all crab rather than filler. Fast service but you aren't rushed. Valet parking makes it so convenient."

Generally speaking I think it's a tad overrated but clearly we keep returning because it is a good to very good, convenient downtown restaurant. However last Fri night we had the pleasure of being served by "Brion D". Not only was he the best waiter we've ever had at Soby's but he is one of the best servers I've ever experienced in Greenville. He turned a "very good" dinner out into a fantastic dining experience. If you choose to dine there, I highly recommend asking for him!"

  • "We made a reservation for a Friday night several weeks in advance of a show at the Peace Center. The reservation was for a group of ten. Two days before our visit, the restaurant called to confirm the reservation, which was appreciated. When we arrived that night (a few minutes late), our group was whisked to a private dining room in the wine cellar. It was the perfect location for our group. Much quieter than the dining room and it made us feel very special. Our waiter, whose name, unfortunately, I can't recall, was exceptional. He knew we were on a schedule and managed the cocktails, wine, appetizers, entrees and dessert perfectly. We strolled into the Peace Center five minutes before curtain. The food was uniformly superb."

Living in the lovely little mountain town of Brevard,NC my girlfriends and I were looking for a place were we could look fabulose and eat divinly. I had the trout and my husband had the duck and they were both delicious and well presented. The restaurant was crowded but our waiter stopped by at our table regularly, and that helped us to not mind the wait. All in all, we had a lovely dining experience and we will be back."
