  • "Great for special occasions or a very special night with a small group of people. Had 6 people and the bill was $600 including tip. It's family style serving so everyone ordered a plate and appetizer and then we all shared whatever was ordered. Food was excellent. Drinks were pretty good too. I highly recommend going wine tasting at the WIne Merchant prior to dinner to add to the festive evening."

  • "Ate at the old location 15or so years ago and loved it. The noise level here is more like a NYC scene restaurant. Takes away some of the mystique and exotic feel. Meat dishes all had incredible depth of flavor. Clay pot chicken, in particular was divine. Pineapple spritzer was a delicious non-alcholic alternative."

  • "This Hot, hot, hot restaurant which daily has lines out to door is a scenic tourist attraction. I say this because the food is mediocre at best. It's a large space with great art works of dogs throughout. Large windows allow the priceless vuews to accompany your so so meal. Greasy chicken and cashews, sticky rice, soggy, tasteless cellophane noodles, and an oily beef dish just didn't do it for us from the culinary point of view. The 3 men at my table left hungry. Priced at what you would expect from a bloated hyped, tourist eatery. Btw, the staff from the front desk forward were great!"

  • "Ate at some really great places this week in SF but Slanted Door was the most amazing. From the lovely decor to our friendly, smiling waiter to the sublime food, it was most memorable. The crispy vegetarian rolls were crunchy and filled with perfectly done vegetables. A taste of the shrimp and pork dumpling soup followed and was savory and delicious. The mains were the dungeoness crab and cellophane noodles was so sweet and delicious that I was sad when it was gone. Our other main, lemongrass chicken was salty and complex. Finally, one of the best deserts ever was the chocolate pudding cake thingy that me and my lunch partner rolling our eyes back into our heads in ecstasy. Would go again and again if I lived in SF."

  • "We had a party of 5. We shared vegetarian imperial rolls (not very tasty), BBQ spareribs (excellent), carpaccio (served with a big crisp rice cracker). We had one order of chicken consommé (too fishy for some) and one order of roasted clams (excellent though salty from the pork belly). Entrees were: lamb (excellent) & rib eye (perfectly prepared & tender)."

  • "I'm a frequent visitor to San Francisco but have never tried the Slanted Door before this trip. The room, view and service were all top notch. However, I was quite disappointed with the food. The presentation was good, but four out of five dishes were simply bland. There were only hints of flavors, spices and heat. Food-wise, nothing unique and almost boring."

  • "Ambiance overlooking the bay bridge was fantastic, always request for window seating. It may have been due to being busy, but service was a bit sparse for a highly-acclaimed restaurant that is the Slanted Door. Honestly, the food was interesting (Grapefruit Salad had exciting combination of flavours) but not as blown away I thought I would be. One notable thing, the receptionist was playing on her phone and failed to acknowledge me when I entered. There was no one else there. Who was I supposed to get help from?"

  • "This was my first time at Slanted Door. Contrary to some mixed reviews I'd read, we found the service very friendly and helpful and the dishes we ordered all very well prepared and tasty. Our waitress made great suggestions. We really enjoyed the yellowtail from the raw bar, the Crispy Imperial rolls, chicken claypot and cellophane noodles with crab. The BBQ spareribs for an appetizer were ok. Chicken claypot outstanding! Restaurant is bustling and informal, views great for window tables."

  • "This is our third experience at this restaurant and we stop every time when traveling to SF from Philadelphia. Every single dish we try was remarkable. The wine selection has a bit more emphasis on the Austrian/German selection. In general ok with Asian/Fusion style restaurant, however, it would be nice to have a wider choice to include some Alsatians or South African or California whites in the mix. Look forward to my next dining experience."

  • "I am so glad we had reservations at the Slanted Door yesterday because it was pouring rain at the Ferry Building and yet we had great food and a lovely view of the bay and Bay Bridge from our table for 6. A seven and eight year old were in our group and though there was no kid's menus, our waitress made good suggestions for their lunch. We will return on a sunny day too."

  • "My wife and I ate at the venerable Restaurant and were not impressed. For $200 I expected much more than we got. We got the Ahi Tartare to start off and it was good, but it was no better than what I have had at other Restaurants. For the Main Course I got the Shaking Beef and my wife got the Short Rib Curry with a shared side of Brussel Sprouts and the Beet Salad. the only dish that we really liked (thought was maybe worth admission) was the Curry. The other dishes did not stand up their respective cost. Seeing that I had to make a reservation a month in advance I will not be going back. Maybe it was a bad night or maybe The Slanted Door is not quite what it was when it moved to the Ferry Building. It was also quite noisy."

  • "Slanted Door offers not only an upscale menu containing fresh ingredients, but a notable wine list to accompany. I didn't recognize most of the wines listed on the menu, which surprised me given that most San Francisco restaurants utilize its proximity to wine country. However, the sommelier recommended an outstanding wine that complemented both entrees ordered. Although it was noisy inside, so much so that we kept having to repeat ourselves, it just showed that even on a Tuesday night, Slanted Door can attract a fun crowd that stays out past 10:00."

  • "Simply put, we received no service, and the food left a lot to be desired. We had to wait 15 minutes for the server to even ask about drinks. The wine we ordered arrived well after the appetizers were done. The server didn't tell us that one of the entrees we ordered (Chicken Clay Pot) needed rice to accompany it. And when asked, the response was "everything here is a la carte", said in a patronizing manner... who on earth would do that? Especially at a restaurant where I'm paying $75 a head?! The desserts (Candied Ginger ice cream and the Beignets) were actually quite good. But overall poor experience."

  • "We had a reservation and were seated promptly. It took about 10 minutes to even get menus, and then only because another server saw that we were waiting and helped us out. The waiter finally came and took our order, but we hardly saw him after that. After our lunch was finished and the dishes were taken away, we waited another 10 minutes to get our bill. The food was amazing, but the service was so disappointing that it's unlikely that I will bring friends or business associates there for a long time. One other thing, if you go, order the lychee cotton candy. It's amazing and won't overfill you after you've eaten."

The server was very knowledgeable, and the food delicious. We had spring rolls, caramelized shrimp and lamb, and enjoyed them all."

  • "I would have preferred having the waiters that served the tables in either side of us as they were more attentive to there guest. The appetizers were good. My main course was the rib eye. For $45 I would have preferred to cut my own steak! This was my first time here and I expectations were not truly met. But I am considering trying to determine if it was me or the restaurant at fault."

  • "I LOVE this restaurant with every fiber of my being!. We dine there about 2 times per month. It would be more but we live 1.45 min away. Sean is the man at the bar that makes us never sit at a table unless we bring a group. Dining at the bar is perfection. Amazing service and everything from drinks to food is delicious. I never tire of the spring rolls, cellophane noodles with crab, the vietnamese crepes, oysters on the half shell, the soups and well, all of it. We leave with full tummies, stimulating conversations with whomever is running the bar that and happy hearts.My only wish is they had a bit bigger room for private events because I'd love to have many celebrations there! LOVE YOU Slanted Door!"

  • "Unfortuantely the service was very bad. Although we reserved a table for 7.30 three weeks in advance, we had to wait at the bar when we came in and didn;t get seated before 8PM. But it was not really the wait that was irritating it was the staff behaviour. The staff at the door were very unfriendly. When we came in, they didn't tell us about the wait. They said it would only be 3-5 mins. After 20 mins, they go irritated when i asked again about the wait. While waiting we tried to get a drink at the bar, but also there the bartender ignored us while attending to those who were already sitting at the bar... Disappointing!"

  • "I have taken at least five or six different groups of people here and have never been disappointed. The food is superb and the service is impeccable. You will want to go back many times because you will want to try everything on the menu. In fact you will be disappointed every time a server walks by your table with a new dish for someone else because you know you do not have the room to try another. The only one dish that was not thrilling to us on this visit was the seafood pancake. It was cooked perfectly and the fish was beautifully cooked but it really lacked seasoning. That is the only negative thing I could think of in all of our visits there."
