  • "We were 4 people on our way to a Giants afternnon baseball game. The food was great and the service was top shelf BUT when will restaurants realize that there is a major drought in California. Water appeared without aking for it and the tumblers were refilled constantly. Responsible restauraneurs should adjust to the current water shortage, It is not cosidered poor service to let a patron ask for water and ask for refills. When we left, there were 4 full glasses on the table to be discarded. If I am taking shorter showers, it is not inreasonable to take a water conservation position at a restaurant."

  • "The title says it all. Overpriced for you what you get, but it is good. The location on the pier is fantastic. All that said, I probably would not return due to the mediocre, overpriced food."

  • "We enjoyed our lunch. My husband and I are surprised though because it was rated the best is the U.S.. We don't agree with that. I think the interior could be nicer--I wasn't fond of the wood tables that look like they have seen better days."

  • "The Slanted Door is the best restaurant we went to in a week of San Francisco dining. The food is fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented and a great price for what you get. The service is friendly and professional. We were politely guided to Riesling wine to accompany our meal. I have always stayed away from Rieslings, finding them too sweet. What a revelation this dry Riesling was! I had read that dining at off hours (late lunch or early dinner) would increase the likelihood of getting a reservation, so we ate at 5:45. The place was bustling, full of singles, couples, friends and families. So much fun for an upscale experience. Don't forget the spectacular view. Look up from your plate!"

  • "We booked for a table of 4 and later changed to 5. The restaurant was so accommodating our changes. The food was delicious & fresh and the service was very good. We really enjoyed our dinner. It was divine."

  • "I honestly don't remember being made to feel so unworthy of a waiters time and attention. We waited far too long to order, no follow-up, not a word (like maybe a thank you) when he dropped off the bill, not a word when he delivered back my receipt and credit card. This is how you treat customers paying upwards of $40 for an entre? Was it that my dining companion was my 13 year old well-behaved, well-dressed, experienced fine-dining daughter? If she were older would we have qualified for better service? Was it that we looked like tourists? I've lived in SF for 22 years. The food isn't good enough to overcome such treatment. There is plenty of exceptional food in San Francisco, no need for such an unpleasant and expensive experience."

  • "Slanted door was a great find. Excellent food and waitress was very helpful in knowing how much food to order and made excellent recommendations. Would go back every time we are in San Francisco. A fabulous dinner"

  • "We had reservations and were immedietly seated, a first for this popular restaurant. Some of the dishes were excellent, others were only good. Would like to see some new items on the menu. Too expensive for what we were served."

  • "We brought friends from Denmark and they lived the food. The shaking beef was remarkable, as were the spare ribs. For the second time I found the Papaya salad lacking in taste. The Bronzino and halibut were amazing. The chocolate and the cotton candy were amazing. We were surprised the restaurant could find no white wines from California to offer...? We will return."

  • "I had heard from many locals and out of towers that the Slanted Door was a not to miss restaurant. I booked a res for a romantic dinner. We went late on a Monday night. The place was very crowded and loud. Service was fair. The waiter left the restaurant 1/2 through our meal and didn't say anything. i know that may be normal and they seem to use a team approach, but the service level dropped when the waiter left. Food was great and view was nice. but the decor was plain and stark. The noise level was crazy. so not the best place for a romantic dinner. I'm a foodie but honestly do not see what the fuss is about. i would probably go back with a large group, but it's difficult to have a conversation with anyone."

  • "The food and location of this restaurant are amazing. Views of the Bay Bridge are easily seen from most every seat. Our wait-staff was also great. They were very attentive without being overbearing or pushy when it came to the food and drinks. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 out of 5 stars is because of the table settings. For such a nice location and high-end style of food, a bit more privacy would have been nice. The tables are very close together. It was almost as if we were dining with the couple sitting next to us. Outside of that, it is definitely worth trying (several times). :)"

  • "This is our second time here. Food was great, with superior ingredients and great flavors. We had the Vietnamese crepes, raw oysters, chicken clay pot, lemon grass noodles, and spare ribs. I had some Hong Kong milk tea that was brewed properly with unbagged full black tea leaves. Service was very courteous."

  • "I picked this restaurant for a special occasion because of the James Beard award. I was very disappointed. I expected fine dining but got over priced mom-and-pop cooking instead. I ordered most of the popular dishes that people talked about in other reviews. Food was mass produced, lacking sophistication, the place was noisy and price was way too high. It gave me the impression of an expensive restaurant at a tourist spot that does not count on returned customer. Won't come back again."

  • "From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were the most important guests in the restaurant! The evening was perfect in every way, service , cocktails, food, view, wine list . You must share everything to take advantage of as many of the fantastic dishes as possible. I highly recommend The Slanted Door"

  • "The food is not nearly as good as it used to be. Not worth the price anymore. skip it on special occasions. appetizers are good, but everything else very average."

  • "An obnoxiously loud and impersonal restaurant, churning out uninteresting, tasteless food. The consensus of our party of four: The wine list.....abysmal. The service...bland. The Prices....ridiculous. Our Regrets....major. Definitely a disappointment after so much hype."

  • "Definitely a pick for large groups, families, and celebrating special occasions! Not where I would want to go for a quiet romantic dinner. Food was excellent, which is not what I would have expected given the huge space. Service was slow at first but attentive once the meal started. Reserve in advance."

  • "the food was excellent altho appetizers were very expensive, I would have preferred smaller appetizers at a lower price; the ambience in general was cold, including the reception and servers, with the exception of our guy waiter, he was the only professional we came in contact with,,,,,,all in all very expensive!!! and I would like to have seen a few more entre selections, very limited for lunch."

  • "I had heard so many great things about this restaurant. It was okay, maybe even good - but nothing special."

  • "Service isn't everything, but bad service can definitely ruin a meal. Our waiter this past Saturday was nowhere to be found throughout the service, other than taking our initial order, clearing our plates, and eventually (thirty minutes after our plates were cleared) paying the bill. While my food, the short rib, was excellent, my fiancee's meal seemed a little off, and she barely touched it. We weren't looking to send it back, but we did not even receive so much as a simple "was everything ok?" when the plates were cleared and her plate was still completely full. I'd love to come back here for the food, but not if we had the same waiter again. Oddly, the table next to us seemed to receive his full attention throughout the night."

  • "Service was slow and the food was served with my wife's first which was cold. Sent hers back and my dinner arrived which was at best average. By the time my wife's dinner arrived I had finish my meal. Big disappointment."

  • "Slanted Door knows what they do well and they continue to execute flawlessly. The food is amazing and we didn't have a bad dish. Their specialty cocktails are fabulous too. It can be noisy and crowded but that's a testament to the bustling location and success of this restaurant. I'll be back and, if you haven't been, just go!"

  • "I decided to try this restaurant because I heard from the radio that its chef had received an award equivalent to an Oscar in restaurant. Well, I was very disappointment when the food was served. I was not at all awed by it. The cellophane noodles with crab meat was OK. My husband kept on complaining that there was little crab meat. The grilled shrimp salad with rice noodle was OK. The won ton soup was nothing to rave about. The lamb dish was so tough that we returned the dish. The only good one was the shaking beef. With close to $250 for 4 adults for lunch was a bit too much for this kind of food, definitely not gourmet and the service was so so. We definitely will not go back there again."

  • "I have been going to The Slanted Door for years, and the food and service is always outstanding, but the noise levels have reached an new all time high. Could not even talk to my client across the table without yelling. Thumping music and bad acoustics coupled with a mass of people will make me think again before going back. Bummer as I just love the place. Good News is there is a killer whiskey bar just a few piers down called Hard Water that saved the evening with the client. Get get work done if you can't talk."

  • "It was horrific finding a roach in the chicken soup. The GM claimed it was sitting next to the salad station where things are more "organic." While they did not charge us for the soup you would think they would just comp the meal."

  • "I live in New York and frequent restaurants as much as possible. Even though the service was professional, I really don't care about the service. For me, it's about the quality of the food. The food is exceptional here. The mix of Asian fusion and variety is outstanding. My husband and I came here for our 6 month anniversary and we ordered a variety of things to taste the menu. We loved it. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone who yearns to taste quality food."

  • "I don't have anything bad to say, but it wasn't outstanding. The food was tasty but a little pricey. It's fun to eat tapas style and get a taste of many things! The best thing that we had was the caramelized shrimp they had a great taste to them but the worst was the Chard, it was just a plate of soggy steamed chard that even the waitress mistook for spinach when she brought it over. The strawberry salad was really not worth it. They had a good beer selection though and some good spritzers."

  • "We were here for a client meeting and The Slanted Door definitely helped impress our client. The location is great, the view is perfect, especially if you are bringing someone who is out of town. The staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. We had some people in our party with dietary restrictions and allergies, and our waiter was very patient and helpful. The drinks were really great as well. Usually when you go to a restaurant on the water, the drink/food will be just okay because they are able to get away with it because of the location. Not here. The drinks we all ordered were so good, I can't wait to go back. The food was so good too. The portions are a good size, we were able to eat family style. Totally worth every $!"

  • "We enjoyed a dinner of vegetarian food and every dish was better than the last. It was a treat to the senses. While waiting for our table we enjoyed a drink at the bar, a sazerac, Mai tai, and ??. All three were great being that the bartender used excellent ingredients in clouding house squeezed pineapple juice for the one I can not remember. I can not wait to return."

  • "Food good but service was overwhelmed by all the large tables, and letting in everybody at once. We were warned by our server that the entrees would not come out at the same time; this was clearly a frequent occurance."

  • "As always when I travel to San Francisco I make time to have dinner at The Slanted Door. I like that it's always a busy place and people is having a good time. The view of the San Francisco Bay is great. This time I had Stir Fried Organic Chicken and it was great. Chocolate Truffle Bar is to die for if you are a chocolate lover."

  • "Our first trip to slanted door .... Loved the service, waiter was very terrific and water glasses always filled. Food was superior in every way- spring rolls and crispy rolls devine and easily fills five people. Waiter suggested rib appetizers and they were delicious . Shaking beef was as wonderful as all the reviews say.. Melt in your mouth heaven. Lamb shanks were also over the top amazing. Noodles and. Crab dish absolutely wonderful! Eggplant and squash veggie dishes were equally delicious . Five stars all the way, just one complaint: very noisy and hard to have conversAtions without having to yell . Would highly recommend to all!!"
