A word from Skillet Diner - Capitol Hill
The award-winning Skillet Diner opened in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle in 2011. We’re a neighborhood joint doing our best to make the place feel relaxed, service attentive and easy; the food approachable yet focused. We use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and continually redefine the meaning of comfort. The style of food is similar to what we’re known for on the airstream …the difference? we have so much more room! Items range from our maple braised pork belly and waffle with a fried egg on top, to our burger with bacon jam, arugula, bleu/brie on brioche with beautiful hand cut fries, to our southern fried chicken and legendary kale Caesar salad. Our full bar hosts happy hour daily and offers hand-crafted artisan cocktails along with beer and wine on tap.

Seating policy: We require your whole party be present to be sat. We will hold your table for up to 15 minutes.

Diner Reviews
  • "We started planning our next trip back before we even finished eating! Where to start? Everyone was super friendly, the chocolate milkshake was insanely good. Our sandwiches were wonderful, the bacon jam on mine was to die for. Love the look of this place, prices are reasonable. If we didn't live in Everett, we'd come by every day."

  • "Easy, delicious & accommodating. No onion rings on the menu but the chef whipped some up for us by request. Love that attitude!"

  • "We were checking in at Alaska Airlines in New Orleans and one of the guys at the counter was in from Seattle training new crew. In conversation, he recommended Skillet Diner. It's only a short walk from our son's home, so we tried it out. We'll be going back. The food was excellent and well-prepared. The pork belly with the cornmeal waffle and eggs was outstanding. And if you're there, check out the bourbon and peanut butter milkshake. And get two straws. It's more than enough to share."

  • "Delicious biscuits and gravy. Waffle looked good and the pork belly was tasty too."

  • "Came here with a group of 6 friends. I like that there is happy hour on the weekends. The food was good and the service was fast. I would recommend this place for groups and families."

  • "I've eaten here before and wasn't disappointed, but I ordered a side of "poutine" for my "fried chicken sammy" and both were sub-par. The fried chicken was bland, not crispy, and kinda looked like it had sat in the hot oil for too long. My "poutine" was warm, not hot, and the fries underneath the grave and cheese were not crispy and tasted as if they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Good news is, I took the leftovers home, placed the chicken and "poutine" underneath the broiler of my oven, added some salt, and hot sauce, and the dish was completely better!"

  • "Lovely brunch and the service was great. The portions were huge and the food really well prepared."

  • "Our family dined here following Seattle University graduation. For a special occasion, it did not really have a very special feel, but it was convenient. We had a reservation, but because tables were a little slow in clearing, we had to wait about fifteen minutes past the reservation time to be seated. The hostess apologized and asked if there was anything she could do for us while we waited. The menu is creative, and the food was good, but portions were a little skimpy for the price. Bloody Mary and a coffee specialty drink were outstanding. Overall, I think our party would have enjoyed the dinner menu more than the all day menu. I appreciated the opportunity to preview the menu on-line."

  • "Went there for the first time to have a Fathers Day/Graduation lunch with two of our (grown) kids. Super croweded, super loud, super staff, and super food. Really enjoyed it inspite of the insanely busy day they were having. (Try the grilled cheese sandwich, it's the best ever.)"

  • "If you're a fan of comfort food with a twist, check out Skillet for all of your dining needs. They have a full bar and can serve breakfast all day, everyday. I went twice during my visit to Seattle, once for brunch and then again for dinner. It was a great experience both times. The first time, I tried the biscuits & gravy and my friend had the serious toast. It was delicious. The next time I went, I ordered the burger and my friend had the chicken & waffle. The waffle wasn't as impressive as the rest of the food but I'll just have to come back later to see. Great food and a lovely spot in Capitol Hill."

  • "I was torn between chicken and waffles or pork belly and waffles. Had the chicken, a slight maple taste in the crisp peppery crust. The cornmeal waffle a perfect compliment. The "potato salad" not traditional added a buttery tang with a hint of mustardy goodness. I will obsess on this until I go again. And never mind the bites I stole from my husbands putine. To DIE for! Can't eat this way more than once in a long while, but soooo worth it! Run!"

  • "I regularly take my visiting-from-out-of-town friends here for brunch, and they love it. The food is amazing (excellent coffee from Cafe Vita!) and the service is great! I recommend making a reservation if you have a larger group of people because this is a popular location. The place was packed so it gets a bit noisy inside, but there's also more peaceful, covered seating outside if you prefer."

  • "I have dined at Skillet three times and all have been great foodie experiences. I have had the chilaquiles, pork belly and grits, and their incredible gourmet grilled cheese with fried chicken thigh sandwich. Come hungry because the portions are huge!!! Everything I have had has been delicious and has layers of flavors! You can always find something on the menu that is different or unique and they offer daily specials as well. I always order a boozie beverage with my favorite being the alcoholic milkshakes! YUM! Make sure to share it with a friend as they are strong! Go, eat, and enjoy the ambience! Great breakfast gem on Capitol Hill :)"

  • "The waiter was just an added bonus to the phenomenal meal. The fact that we could make a reservation and waltz straight in past the lines was great!"

  • "Specialty drinks ($2 off at happy hour): My wife's Bea Arthur was complex, every sip you would pick up another ingredient (I was only allowed 2 sips). My tequila drink (Paloma?) was more straightforward; good, but I never picked up on the ginger syrup. My wife had the beef sirloin, must have been 2" thick. She knows her beef and devoured every bit : ( I had the stinging nettles gnocchi; I could see the nettles but not taste them. Good gnocchi though, with good cauli cooked two ways. Don't expect an extensive wine list, this is a diner after all. You can find something to drink but don't come here just for the wine or beer list. But the list of after dinner drinks was surprisingly good."

  • "First of all our server, Justin, was friendly, engaging and personable. The pate appetizer was outstanding and the Monday night meatloaf special as good as we remembered from last year's birthday dinner. Might have to make it a birthday tradition! Love, love, love the boozy shakes - Colonel Parker with bourbon and peanut butter, yum! "

  • "Our waiter was terrific. The staff was very accommodating. Food was excellent. I highly recommend the corn bread waffles. Only downside was that the music was too loud and made conversation difficult. Otherwise a perfect experience. "

  • "We did Mother's Day brunch here. Loved! Very busy brunch spot so probably would not try to go over a party of 4...reservations are definitely a plus. That is not a negative...just something to note. We loved the food and our server. Can't wait to return!"

  • "we were kind of strapped trying to make last minute reservations for 8 for my friends b day . I called and they referred me to the online reservations - which at first I was annoyed she could not take me then- but once I got online with my phone it was soooo easy. the food was great , our waiter was funny , engaging and the food was hearty. will definitely be coming back and definitely doing on line reservations in the future. "

  • "Skillet is one of my all time favorite restaurants that offers breakfast anytime, and who doesn't love that. If not for the chicken and waffles or the pancake breakfast sandwich, the poutine (heaping pile) will have you coming back again and again! "

  • "Five old friends converged for delicious dining - we had a great spot and spot on service . All our meals and cocktails we really on point . I'm from out of town and this is my second times and skillet - I could foresee a third"

  • "Had a great time with family for Easter lunch. After the table next to us left the noise level was bearable. Would recommend this for a quaint place to have a good meal with friends and family."

  • "Went on a recommendation that Skillet had the best Mac N Cheese on all of the West Coast - two people in our party had it and also raved. Also made great recommendations based on my gluten allergy. Solid choice!"

  • "A very clean attractive diner style restaurant. Kid friendly. Counters & lots of light. Good corner location. It goes downhill from there. I had a restaurant week menu, fried chicken sandwich. It was not good, in fact it was really bad. The chicken was dark meat and there was very little of it. The sandwich was mostly fried clumps of batter which a somewhat odd taste, not good. The fries were greasy. The milk shake was good. The diners next to me had breakfast and I noticed that they left half of their plate uneaten. I was relieved that I did not take guests to Skillet Diner with me, it would have been embarrassing."

  • "The fried chicken was crisp, succulent and very tasty. The brown sugar rubbed rock fish served on a bed of salad with pomegranate dressing was slightly dry, but the flavor was delicate. We shared a bowl of Poutine, which is the ultimate comfort food. For desert, the chocolate pie in a bowl (a kind of pudding) was a yummy way to end a great meal. The beverages were resonably priced, as we had the benefit of Happy Hour, but all the glasses used were various sizes of canning jars, which a member of our party did not appreciate. A request for a standard glass could unfortunately not be accomodated, but in the end a clear plastic cup was provided. The use of canning jars is an "affectation" and diners should be provided with a choice."

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner at Skillet, with a nice assortment of meats, pastas, and fish, and a few good local beers and wines. Worth a return visit."

  • "The food was innovative and not your typical breakfast fare. Enjoyed the many interesting menu choices. Portions were ample and well-presented. Our waitperson was quite personable. Very crowded at 10:45 a.m. on a weekday. Reservations absolutely necessary. We weren't rushed at all, but the very crowded conditions were not conducive to our business meeting. If I go there again, it will be to enjoy the food, not to conduct business. It's not the place for that. My guest had suggested the location, so I went along with the idea."

  • "I was impressed by the design and concept of the place. I was underwhelmed by the food - I ordered a fried chicken sandwich. Portions on the small side for what you pay. Didn't try the drinks but they looked like upscale twists on standards."

  • "Group of 3 each ordered different main dish, and all very tasty! Like the skillet a lot (for the main dish and for the treat)! Some creative design in the store too!"

  • "This is the second time my wife & I have brought friends to Skillet for dinner. We especially enjoy the unique menu. The dishes are all terrific in quality & quantity. We have culinary careers and love traditional comfort food which Skillet has turned into imaginative fun. Our service was outstanding (we had the same waiter each visit - fortunately), attentive & patient. Love the drink ideas too - we tried the Bailey's milkshake & the Peppermint Patty. It was worth a night off my diet. A little too loud for me & the booths are uncomfortable but those are the only semi-negative parts. We'll be back, even though we live in Everett."
