Rye restaurant in Leawood, Kansas, just south of Kansas City, celebrates the Midwestern foods that chefs Megan and Colby Garrelts grew up eating. Both of these chefs are proud to be from the Midwest and Rye showcases dishes that they have enjoyed with several generations of their families. Rye pays homage to those heritage dishes that the Midwest is known for like succulent smoked pork chops, aged steaks, bbq ribs, fried chicken, seasonal vegetables from the garden, Parker House rolls, freshly made pies, fruit cobblers, and layer cakes to name a few. The food at Rye takes traditional dishes and gives them a chef’s point of view, while preserving the important heritage of the dish. Chefs Megan and Colby use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and products including produce from their family farm.

Really good fried chicken, attentive waiter. Restaurant is loud. Not a place for conversation unless you want to scream at each other, as many were doing. No atmosphere, but that maybe what you are looking for.

Although we found the wines a bit pricey, our 2 salmon & 1 fried chicken dinner were delicious. Our 4th diner had the halibut which she found below par compared to the rest of the meals. We also shared a lemon meringue & a key lime pie which were both great. Our server was fine but not as good as we’ve had in the past.

The chicken was served hot and was very moist. Chris was an excellent server. I thought the price was high for three pieces of chicken which does not include any sides. I had them box 1 and 1/2 pieces of left over chicken breasts but when I got home only the full breast was there.

Rye is typically one of my very favorite places, so I chose it for my birthday brunch with my family. We had a new waiter (bless his heart) who wasn’t quite knowledgeable and didn’t come by very often. The food was sadly not as good that day for some reason.

It was very good food. My family enjoyed the fried chicken, the burgers, and the shrimp and rots. I got a spicy chicken sandwich and it was doused in sauce to make it “spicy”. I was disappointed about that but still I would go back. Prices were steep for lunch, so dinner might be out of the question for us. It was nice to change it up from the repeat restaurants though. Thanks.
