We did the chefs grand tasting menu, which seems this restaurant does a lot of. Most of the people sitting around us were doing the same. We are self proclaimed foodies and do chefs tasting menus frequently. This is the first time we’ve had to pay up front, $225 per person plus tax and gratuity; that should have been our sign. My husband and I both agreed, the food was great. I didn’t like one of the pasta dishes, but it was just a personal issue, not that the dish was bad. Each coarse was complex; a few may have been overly complicated. The restaurant claims to be Italian; there were a few Asian dishes and French dishes. Maybe 2 out of the 7 courses were actually Italian. Again, still not an issue with the food but not what we were expecting. Where we felt the restaurant fails miserably is the large disconnect between back of the house and front of the house and delivery of each dish. First of all, we did not do the wine pairing and instead just got a couple of glasses throughout the meal. The staff had no idea what wines to pair with the courses, and instead brought us multiple wine options to taste to select from even though we had no idea what course was coming up next. I received more than one dirty wine glass. Like I mentioned earlier, the dishes were complex and did require some direction as to how chef expected you to eat them. We either got conflicting instruction or none at all from the wait staff. At one point, they brought out a new dish, but no silverware. In our opinion, the staff did not command the price point. We were in St. Pete’s for 4 days and went to a number of other restaurants that we felt had just as great a menu for a quarter of the cost.

Exceptional evening at Il Ritorno! Outstanding service, sophisticated menu, and unbelievable flavors throughout everything we ordered. We are so fortunate to have a restaurant of this caliber in downtown St. Pete! We cannot wait to go back!

iL Ritorno consistently provides an amazing dining experience. Last night's meal was yet another reason it's our favorite spot in St. Pete! We savored it all—Caviar Donuts, Stracciatella, Bucatini, and Short Rib Mezzaluna, all complemented beautifully with cocktails and a tasty Napa Cab!

What a lovely restaurant and the staff was top notch. We loved the menu very modern. Atmosphere very hip and we enjoyed our meals very much. We will definitely come back. As a full time resident here it’s great to have such a fine restaurant nearby.

Always inventive and subtle improvements on traditional Italian dishes. Interesting wines, especially from Italy. Last night we enjoyed a fantastic Arneis from the Piedmonte region which paired perfectly with our branzino. The agnolotti pasta with ramps was such an amazing dish - we might have to come back just for that one. Always gracious service and truly skilled bartenders. We most definitely will definitely be Ritorno'ing....hahaha.
