Diner Reviews
  • "I've had great meals at other Shula's FL,TN, etc. and live local to this one. I really want to be a fan but there is always something that is off when I visit this one. No croutons please on the salad (here's your salad with croutons), no béarnaise sauce on the steak please (here's your steak smothered in béarnaise sauce), huge fan of the roasted corn (here's your extra burnt side of corn). The restaurant had literally 5 tables in the main dining room so I can't understand why this stuff happens, it just shows a plain lack of care. The steak however was cooked perfectly and tasted great. I can't say I won't be back, it will just be after cycling through Ruth Chris, Morton's, and some other local steak houses first."

  • "It was certainly a good place for 4 good friends to gather and enjoy great steaks ( and a chocolate lava cake too)."

  • "When paying $45 dollars a steak, you expect it to be higher quality than one you'd buy in a chain grocery store. It wasn't. Butter and salt evidently goes a long way with the customers that keep this place open."

  • "We sat down at 6pm. We were one of two parties at the restaurant. Someone at the table ordered rare prime rib. We were told they were sold out. Early for a steakhouse to be out. When you come to a very expensive steakhouse, you expect to get meat the way you want it. A downer when you are paying so much. My steak was good but as the host I was disappointed. Service was excellent. Setting was in the Hilton. To me the price didn't match the atmosphere and quality. Fallen chocolate cake was fantastic."

  • "My parents and my husband and I dined at Shula's for a special anniversary dinner. They gave us a special table with a Happy Anniversary sign. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. They gave great suggestions for what to order. The food was great, as was the whole experience. It was a lovely way to spend our anniversary."

  • "For Father's Day, we dined with the family and was highly satisfied with everything we remembered from previous visits. The prime rib was huge and delicious, service was great and the location we sat was wonderful and private. We will definitely come back again and maybe try the 48oz challenge."

  • "Excellent wait staff, very knowledgeable of the menu and the history behind the restaurant. Food was very good. Loved that the servers made sure everything was too our satisfaction before leaving the table. Overall we had a wonderful evening."

  • "We went to schulas for my husbands birthday. When we entered the dining area, there was only one other table there. So I was surprised at how long it took for someone to greet my table as they were not "weeded" in the dining room. However the service was not reflective of the current volume in the dining area. I felt my needs were not anticipated in the simplest sense. I had to request unutilized wine glasses be removed from the table, I had to ask for a bag for my 2 to-go containers and to top it off the person who boxed my sides, just dumped them in a box together without separating them. An to top it off, my husband was only wished happy birthday by the hostess. Nobody else acknowledged that it was his birthday the rest of the night. "

  • "Shula's was absolutely excellent. The steak was the best I have ever had. The service was exceptional. I especially appreciate the bartender finding the perfect bottle of wine to complement the meal. "

  • "Very forgettable except the price ($10 for a gin & tonic?). Food was ordinary, absolutely nothing special. This was my first experience at a Shula's and found it disappointing. For the price you would expect a little something special. Service was adequate, but only that. My wife had the ravioli at an average cost $4 per ravioli which were very ordinary. The only upside is that now my curiosity about Shula's is satisfied."

  • "We went to Shula's for a quiet dinner to celebrate my birthday and had a great time. 5 The food was great, especially the steaks."

  • "All the food was fantastic. Maybe slightly over-priced, but no more than a Ruth's Chris... Only 'snafu' was service. Very nice staff, but had empty drinks several times, they forgot my wife's bar drink, left-overs were not packaged properly (threw away half of meal my wife wanted, didn't pack sauces my wife specifically requested)."

  • "I made reservations online for a,special occasion...my husband's birthday. The service was great. Krystal Answered my questions with truthfulness and was very open to allowing us to sample different wines. Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to choosing this restaurant again as a choice for special occasions."

  • "We dined here on 3/21 for our Anniversary and we could not be happier. My husband had the oysters that he was really looking forward to and I had the crab cake. The oysters and crabcake were fresh and flavorful. For our entree I had the lobster while he had the bone in steak and we finished with the lava cake for dessert. I appreciate the food was delicious and well prepared and the service was the best we have had in a long time. My only suggestion would be we did not feel that they did anything special for our Anniversary. I enjoy the special touches other restaurants do like something small for example a box of truffles with a card. Shula's it was only a sign on the table that was removed when seated. Overall it was a great night!"

  • "The service was great and the steak was wonderful, but it doesn't come cheap. Great special occasion destination. My only problem was that the restraint was too dark."

  • "Being new to the area, we gave Shulas' a try. Disappointing, and won't return. There are just too many other steak houses in the competition with more enticing menu selections. Food was mediocre for the price."

  • "Shula's Steakhouse is truly a cut above the rest! My wife and I receive high quality customer service and delicious meals prepared by the area's top chefs. We have visited Shula's several times now and they consistently deliver just what we are looking for!"

  • "We chose Shula's to celebrate a special event for one of our affiliated Agency Owners. We reserved the private dining room and they provided two wait staff to serve our party of 5. The service was excellent. The food was very good, probably 8.5 out of 10. The steak particularly was very good and cooked to perfection for each of us, but the vegetables were somewhat disappointing ( we shared asparagus and mashed potatoes and the asparagus was overcooked). We will definitely use this place again. It is convenient for travelers (in the Hilton Short Pump) and the staff is outstanding. The steak alone is worth a visit."

  • "The food and the service overall were superb. The key lime pie was a disappointment. The apple tart and the chocolate desert were both very good, but the key lime pie should be removed from the menu. Since that was a finish to my meal, it was a great disappointment."

  • "This is a pricey restaurant, but the steaks, crab cakes, and lamb were excellent. The side dishes are large enough to feed at least 2 people, but the quality was not always there. Mashed potatoes were dry and tasteless, potato au gratin was good as well as the spinach and salad. Just remember that each side dish will feed at least 2 people, the meal was good but for the money, I would choose Hondo's instead."

  • "Shula's was way over priced!!! We had two steaks, two glasses of wine, an appetizer, and split a baked potato and the bill came to $130+. That was way too much! This was a nice restaurant with good food; however, it was nothing beyond the regular steakhouse. It had very old fashioned decor. There was no warmth in the place. They didn't even have any music playing. The staff was professional but not very friendly. I think they are trying to be too classy and it just comes off stilted, formal, and not much fun. There was no contemporary vibe at all. The place is for an older crowd. I could only recommend it to a large group that will bring its own fun. And again, it would be overpriced."

  • "splendid steak . .servers tended to disappear after food was served (which was on the slow side, few patrons at the time); had to ask for my bill and had to clear away plates to sign , , the server just stood by as I raked out a place among the plates to sign"

  • "My husband and I chose to have Christmas dinner out this year. We had reservations and were greeted with holiday wishes upon arrival. Just a few minutes wait until our booth was ready. Our waitress was excellent, timely and friendly. Every stage of the meal was timely to allow us to finish our salads before entree was served. Our waitress checked back with us regularly to see if we needed anything. It's a high quality, expensive restaurant but well worth the price. We would dine there again for a special occasion, i.e. birthday or anniversary or another holiday meal. Five stars for food and service."

  • "The food was not very good. Had prime rib that was overcooked and of poor quality. The Yorkshire pudding just did not come with it, was told the kitchen did not make it that day, although it was included as coming with the meal on a special menu"

  • "Since we were coming back to Richmond late Christmas day we decided to have dinner at Shula's . What a great choice ! I had one of the best steaks I have had in Richmond and my wife's entree was equally as good. Krystal our server was awsum as were the drinks and dessert. We plan on going back again soon to try the lounge after work."

  • "This was an awesome choice for our 15th anniversary! It felt like we had private dining as the hostess and waiter catered to us. The lobster bisque was a great starter and our entrees were delicious and very filling. We tried the crab macaroni and cheese as a side (highly recommend). I would tell couples in search of a quiet, intimate night out about this best kept secret."

  • "From the opening drink mistake to the wedge salad arriving as a house salad to a steak ordered medium and arriving dry and gray, what more could have ruined this birthday meal? If it weren't for the prices, the evening would have almost become comical. Servers at this type of establishment should not mix up tables (their excuse for the salad goof) and while I do recognize that it takes skill to cook a steak correctly, it is certainly a reasonable expectation at a top level steak restaurant to have a steak arrive as ordered. The refire, by the way, was poorly seared and essentially rare, but at that point, I really didn't care. At least the desserts (chocolate lava cake) arrived as ordered and were delicious."

  • "This restaurant is located inside the Hilton Short Pump, in western Henrico County off West Broad St. We had a combination of filet mignon, crab cake, crab cake sandwich and a salad. Everyone thought the food was very good and the service was excellent. Not many people for lunch (it was on a Monday around 12:30 PM so that was a surprise. The price was reasonable considering the quality of the food and the location. I plan to also try this place for dinner."

  • "We were very disappointed in the Thanksgiving Dinner, especially given the $39 per person charge. The turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato (2 potato dishex?) were all bland. The child's filet was very good, but overpriced at $22. The accompanying fries were good, however. Quite frankly we could have gotten a better meal at the Golden Corral for a fourth of the price. Our party of four will not be inclined to return to Shulas any time soon."

  • "We had a private room, but they could not get the music to work. The food was your typical Thanksgiving dinner with NO substitutions. It was obviously already prepared and on plates. Not much turkey. We did order extra sides which ended up coming at the end of our meal. We also ordered 2 simple dishes of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. They took forever to get! All in all it was a good meal but definitely not worth the price. It was not crowded at all - maybe 4 other tables so we do not know why it took so long for everything! The waitress was very nice. We had eaten there before and felt it was extremely overpriced for what you get but this was the only restaurant available for Thanksgiving when we decided to make reservations."

  • "did not meet my expectation. steak prepared wrong, wait time for redo and bread was very long. My dinner mates were almost done with meal before my steak was recooked. dinner was almost completed before we received bread. fine dinning was not provided. Very disappointed."

  • "This was our second visit to Shula's and it did not disappoint. The food and service was outstanding and we learned something from our first experience...don't over-order. My boyfriend and I both got the French Onion soup that was absolutely the best and he ordered the Cowboy Ribeye (which he shared some with me) and I had the Scallops appetizer. We split the side order of Twice Baked Potato, which was bigger than both of us could eat. By the time we finished the main course, we had no room for dessert! Love this restaurant and we will go back again!"

  • "We've tried a wide range of steak houses, from the run of the mill to the super stuffy (and expensive), and Shula's delivered better than any. From the initial greeting through the departure, the staff was uniformly great at service, but more importantly, the steaks were superb. We will definitely return often."
