Sheerwater Restaurant at the Hotel Del CoronadoMemorable Mother's Day LunchThis year, our family dined at Sheerwater Restaurant in celebration of Mother's Day. We were a group of 9, including two 12 year olds. The service was very good and we were especially appreciative of the fact that the restaurant held our reservation even though Coronado traffic made us a few minutes late. The menu had something to please everyone and the food was delicious. The view from Sheerwaters is truly spectacular and we all enjoyed a beautiful celebration. I had the halibut and it was cooked to perfection. We had a great time and the restaurant allowed us to bring in our own cake and they served it after the bride and groom cut it. We were outside with a heater due to the ocean breeze. The heater kept us all at the perfect tenmperature so we were able to stay outside for the entire evening. Everything worked out very well and we had a very enjoyable lunch there. Food was excellent and service was good. Having a table at the edge of the patio on a sunny afternoon was absolutely perfect! The outdoor and indoor dining is very nice and the view toward the Bay is lovely. We were especially impressed with the wait staff who were very nice and accommodating. One waiter took time to talk to an excited young boy at the table next to us about his experience at Lego Land. The reservations were not accurate, but provided us what we really wanted, which was to dine outside. Service was a little slow, but the view was great and the food, although a bit pricy, was excellent. I had the turkey sandwich, which was stacked so high I had to break it down. It tasted very good, but the fruit that came with it was a little soggy. My husband had the steak with salad - he stated it was the best steak he every had. A beautiful room with spectacular views, offering just terrific food served by impeccable staff. This place is managed so well that hundreds daily may enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner, in a beautiful setting and find their table waiting. From the moment you encounter the hostesses with their welcoming smiles until you pay what shall be a surprisingly modest bill, you shall come to love Sheerwater as we do. My wife loves the chicken and salades, soups and the best short ribs I have ever eaten for me. The question is not whether you should enjoy Sheerwater but how often. I sit there transfixed by my surroundings and the delmas of the menu, chowder or tomato, short rib or pasta with shrimp, which of the flat bread pizzas, choices that speak to excellent cuisine.
