Diner Reviews
  • "Very disappointing. Salmon was overcooked. Crème Brulee was runny. Not sure if I will return."

  • "Seastar is always my go-to restaurant for the best seafood around. Lovely wine list, excellent service, and extraordinary food choices."

  • "The food and experience are always top notch at Seastar! One of our favorite restaurants!"

  • "My wife and I chose to dine at Seastar for our anniversary based on word of mouth reviews from friends and colleagues. To sum up the evening: Car Valet - 5 Stars...witty, engaging, thoughtful Service - 5 Stars...Kelli was fantastic. Very attentive, open, conversational. Offered us complimentary desserts to celebrate our anniversary. Food - 4.5 Stars...We dined on an assortment of raw bar and cooked apps - all fantastic (especially Kalbi pork), desserts a bit underwhelming. Ambiance - 3 Stars...Nicely done for a restaurant wedged between office buildings. No view - unless you like to watch BMWs drive by the window. Overall - 4.5 Stars...Great find and a fantastic spot when in Bellevue."

  • "I have been frequenting SeaStar in Bellevue for years, however the size of the Unagi the last few times I visited was really small and disappointing. The portions of vegetables was smaller on the Ahi (my favorite)."

  • "We go for anniversary and other special occasions, great champagne, cocktails and entrées. The service is friendly yet impeccable. Very expensive but worth it.."

  • "Food and service were good. Nothing was exceptional but everything was good."

  • "And I don't mean Sushi. The Sushi was fine but several of the dishes (Tuna and Quinoa for example) were simply cold by the time they reached the table."

  • "we returned to Seastar to celebrate a birthday this past weekend. The dinner was enjoyable and the food delicious. The service was good, but I continually got the impression that our server was overstretched and a bit stressed. She worked hard to provide good service but the extra attention/calmness that we usually experience, was missing. Overall a good dinner and we will return."

  • "My husband and I are willing to pay for good food and a good experience. Unfortunately, SeaStar did not live up to the hype. Our table of 6 ordered sushi, which was good. Also crab. (At $80 for the plate, a friend said the best thing was the sauce?) Salad was fine. Our creme brule' was good and used real vanilla. I also liked the white pepper in my mashed potatoes- a nice surprise. However, we got one course per hour, so were glad we had some catching up to do with our party. My biggest complaint is that I actually really like vegetables. At $50+ a plate, these were really slapped on. That and my husband's rice were like straight-up cafeteria food. With so many other good restaurants in the area, I'd suggest skipping SeaStar."

  • "We have been to Seastar many times and love it - for the food and also the service. I had stated in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, no mention of it when we arrived. I mentioned it again to our server - she said "happy birthday" but that was it. I expected more and was disappointed. The service was decent, but not what we have been provided in the past. As always, the food was outstanding."

  • "I have been here before and had good experiences, but in this most recent case they missed. The waiter forgot my soup and then brought it with my meal. He covered the charge, but it still didn't flow very well. I had king salmon, mashed potatoes and green beans. The beans were the best part. The salmon was very fishy tasting (not fresh) and the potatoes tasted fishy as well. Too bad."

  • "arrived more than 1/2 hr. early but got seated since it was early. Asked for a table by a window since my guest was from KC and had a nice table. Service was great! The crab cakes were good but seemed a bit too brown but with the sauce it was great. My main entree were shrimp wrapped with prosciutto (?) with a salad inside a cylindrical bread bowl. Nice presentation. Prawns seemed overlooked. Salad dressing was over powering. Too tart for my taste. KC guest ordered salmon but it was very well done and dry. She didn't complain but ate it anyway & enjoyed the meal. Coconut cream pie was outstanding, I took most of it home!"

  • "The food and service were very good (no complaints) but the dining area was so loud, we could hardly hear one another. Not the best place for a business lunch."

  • "Hosted two visitors from Calgary who were in town for the BAM exhibitions. They loved it! Our waiter, "1279 R.D.", was excellent. Knew the daily menu and what he was doing with service."

  • "The menu is always changing with new and exciting foods. I love the newer Japanese inspired dishes. When I want a special night, this is my Go To restaurant. My only complaint is the noise level so I ask for a peripheral table."

  • "The Seastar was a great find. The food is really delicious and the service was great! We took my son for his 37th birthday and they were very cordial and brought some special caramels out. The presentation was excellent as well!! We will definitely return for our next special occasion."

  • "My wife loves salmon and so we chose to celebrate our 41st anniversary at Seastar. The service was was impeccable as were our appetizers and salads. She had the crab cakes and I had the ahi nigori sushi (both yummy). I ordered the swordfish and it was cooked to perfection and I literally savored every buttery bite. My wife ordered the applewood grilled king salmon, one of their signature dishes. Unfortunately, the salmon had none of that rich salmon flavor that she expected. In fact, it had zero flavor, much like a baked salmon that was left in the oven too long. When I noticed that she wasn't devouring it, I asked what was wrong and she offered me a bite. I didn't finish my bite because it was that bad. Desserts & wine were great."

  • "I always enjoy Sea Star. Because I frequently take clients to lunch I eat there often because I find "healthy" choices and preparation in their meals. Not to mention they without fail are DEEEELICIOUS! The service is beyond special and I have come to know and like the staff. The food is prepared as you like, brought out hot, and the presentation is stunning. Highly recommend."

  • "The place felt like something between a hotel restaurant and someplace specializing in early bird specials. Decor is dated. Food was decent."

  • "We enjoyed a great dinner with a wonderful wine pairing. The service was excellent! We were not rushed and it all made the evening fun and memorable."

  • "We booked our reservation thru Open Table and arrived at the restaurant on time. We were immediately seated at a window seat. At the time we did not noticed a party of 20 people across from us. They were very load and the more they drank the loader they got. This was our first visit to Seastar Restaurant and we had come to celebrate our anniversary. Our waiter was great and the food was outstanding including the coconut pie. When we were finished a manager stopped by and asked us how our dinner was and we mentioned the seating next to a large load group was very annoying as we could hardly talk to each other. His only comment was they would note on our reservation that we would like a more quieter location for future visit."

  • "The food here is always a creatively combined fusion of seafood with other cooking styles and the presentation is fabulous. My favorite on the Eastside, we always bring out of town guest here."

  • "Our meal was great, seafood selection was impressive. We were glad we made reservations because it was really crowded. I highly recommend this restaurant for out of town guests."

  • "My wife and I had a sensational meal here. The restaurant was extremely busy, but our server was friendly and attentive. Her knowledge of the menu, the preparation methods and the ingredients would make any owner, chef or maître d proud. We shared many smaller plates, each better than the last, and if we did that every night for a week I still would not have tried everything that caught my eye. The seafood was very fresh, beautifully presented and it was the star of the show - the sauces etc only there to accentuate. Mr Howie should be very proud of this restaurant. Clearly this was a restaurant filled with true professionals. Not only would we return if we are in Bellevue, we will be returning to Bellevue specifically to dine at Seastar."

  • "It just doesn't get any better than this. The food, service and atmosphere was great. There was a bit of crowd noise but we will definitely return and hopefully many times. It is on the expensive side but considering the quality of the dining experience I would say it is reasonable and a good value."

  • "Seastar is one of my fave spot in Seattle/Bellevue. Excellent crab cakes.. Even though it is a seafood restaurant, the one entree that attracted me to this restaurant was the pork chop with cherries I tasted at my very first visit. Sadly I never saw it again on the menu... The truffle fries are addictive!"

  • "We went to Seastar because we had relatives in town from Montana that had recently gotten engaged. They wanted to have seafood since they don't have much to choose from in that category in Montana. We all were very impressed with our food. We had the ahi tuna, mahi mahi, risotto shrimp and the talapia. We also had the crab cakes for an appetizer and the coconut cream pie for dessert. Everything was fabulous!!! Our waitress was excellent as well! We will definitely be back!"

  • "Seastar is the way to run a first-class restaurant. Excellent, creative offerings that stop short of being too cute to describe with a straight face. Every bite does honor to the chef and the ingredients. Service is balanced just-so between friendly and too-familiar. And it's a place for anyone who likes good food and can afford it. Not cheap but not snooty, either. We were there to celebrate our Anniversary and it felt like a special evening, though we hadn't told them. A table away was a family with five young children. Next to us, a couple of young men in jeans and designer tees, talking high finance. Seastar has broken the code. Turns out to have been simple: attend to every detail."

  • "A friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time and Seastar was recommended by some friends who live in the area. Every bite of food was delicious. We had the Sea Tower appetizer for 2 with shrimp, scallops and crab cakes. It was beautifully presented and every piece was outstanding. We then shared an entree which was the Hawaiian fish over sticky rice. The server plated the dish separately which was very much appreciated. The blend of textures with a cucumber, mango and nut salsa over the fish with a Thai inspired drizzle was fantastic. We'll be back to Seastar the next time we are in Seattle!"

  • "We enjoyed a meal here with out of town guests and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The server was really professional and friendly and she really added to the overall experience. All of our food was of high quality, fresh and expertly prepared and presented."

  • "I'm a frequent Seastar restaurant goer. I have my favorite table. I routinely book reservations through Open Table. I dined at Seastar three times last week. There has never been any recognition that I am a frequent diner, not even a "welcome back", or "thanks for coming back". On Monday, our server was too personal--making assumptions and using the "are WE having dessert tonight?" It felt over the top. On Wednesday, we were seated, water was poured, bread was brought but our waiter didn't show up for over 10 minutes. Yes it was busy, but this has NEVER happened to me at Seastar. I kept trying to get someone's attention to no avail. On Friday, our server seemed like she did not want to be there. Food is great; service is slipping."

  • "John Howie has done it again! The choice, presentation and quality of the seafood at Seastar is superior to anywhere else. A must visit for anyone living in or visiting the area."

  • "The food was great but the noise was way too loud to enjoy any conversation."

  • "Sea Star was an impressive new find for me in the Bellevue area. It was recommended to me by a friend who after hearing someone on the hotel shuttle talk about going 3 nights in a row, had to give it a try. He and his wife also loved their meal. There were 3 in our party and everyone loved their meal. I had the Copper River Salmon and it was not only delicious, but melted in your mouth. The meals were not only excellent, but were reasonably priced as well. I will definitely be back to Sea Star on my next visit to the area."

  • "Overcooked fish is dry and not what I expected. The server offered to bring me another that had not been overcooked--she could see it had been badly done--but I didn't want to inconvenience the others in our party. Or kill another fish."
