Diner Reviews
  • "We went to scusa for our anniversary dinner on a Saturday night. We had an awesome seat, aside from the fact we were surrounded by children who had little to no restaurant manners. The pasta was bland but the chicken and green beans were to die for. The cheese bread was really good too! Our server Rory was accommodating and friendly throughout our many requests."

  • "Our annual trip to Tahoe usually has us dining at Harrahs or Harvey's upscale restaurant. We wanted something new so choose Scusa's based on the reviews on Open Table. We were absolutely amazed at the food quality, presentation, service quality and pricing. An absolutely fabulous meal that rivals any that we get in the San Francisco Bay Area!"

  • "Good food, good service and nice atmosphere. First had some nice Italian background music, which later turned to live jazz with a sax horn player, which added to the ambience."

  • "I love scusa. The service is excellent as well as the food and ambiance. It's my favorite restaurant in tahoe. It's easy to get reservations and once we arrive we are seated right away.keep up the great work."

  • "The food was fantastic and the service is unbeatable. Nice atmosphere."

  • "We went for a special occasion and we were given a nice, intimate booth. Wait staff was very attentive and professional. The kale salad was very good. The lobster ravioli was good and sole special were very good, but not outstanding. We could hear the sax player -- nice volume. A large table with lots of kids provided most of the noise -- didn't bother us one bit, but some people might not like that level of noise if they have the small curtained booth (which the server didn't offer to close -- we would have said no, but wouldn't you offer, if you have that feature?) Dessert -- a brownie with ice cream and some fruit sauce, was, again, very good but not outstanding. Expected more for $50/person but will probably try it again."

  • "Nice place.excellent service.crowded.pricey. roasted garlic soup was excellent. My wife's sole was tasteless. Seafood fettucini was fair. Not great . Greeksalad was overdressed andless than fresh"

  • "This is a great restaurant for anyone in the south shore area and looking for great Italian food. Good use of garlic as it should be. Recommend the Scusa garlic bread and every dish in the menu is excellent. Stand outs would be chicken and eggplant which I'd normally never like (due to eggplant) but here it's awesome. All pasta dishes are recommended as well."

  • "The food was good, not excellent. My main complaint- even though the restaurant was not busy we were in and out in an hour. As soon as the fork was put down after finishing the salad, the main dish arrived. It the restaurant wants to be considered a "fine dining" establishment, they need to time the food better. I would have complained if time between courses was over 10 or 15 mins, but the entree arrived before my friend had finished her salad."

  • "We have been to Scusa's several times. We were seated promptly but did not get a booth as requested. The little table that we were seated at was so dark that we had to pull out a pen light to see the menu. The table was way to small for the dishes. AND the noise! We could hardly hear each other. There was a table across from us in a booth that obviously knew the whole staff. Everyone came by to chat with them and their voices and conversations were so loud. They did not think of other patrons. The food was not as we've had before. Yes, we were extremely disappointed on this dinner out. A suggestion...go there when it is not so crowded! Hopefully the wait staff will give you better attention!"

  • "The live music was way too loud, you could barely hear the ones at your table. I ordered the special for the maine course: i got two pieces with 2/3 bone and 1/3 meat. Even if they pretend to be a fine restaurant they don't give you bread and butter before your order arrives. Not worth it!"

  • "Dinner for two on Valentines Day (Evening) - fantastic food, drink, a little Jazz - most excellent! I had the Sole with capers and a white wine sauce over angel hair and she had the angel hair pasta with chicken. The sole was fab, she did not care for the chicken (I thought it was good). Excellent service and a nice atmosphere!"

  • "Scusa is one of our favorite South Lake Tahoe restaurants. We don't miss a visit here any time we are vacationing in Tahoe. The food is beyond delicious (I am sure you have heard of their cheesy garlic bread). The ambience is very nice. Our recent visit included live jazz music filling up the air. You can't go wrong with their menu items. This visit we had eggplant parmesan, a salmon special over polenta with grape tomatoes sauce (highly recommend) and our daughter had a delicious steak. The prices are reasonable and it is a gem in South shore!"

  • "Always one of our favorite places to eat in Tahoe. Excellent food!"

  • "The food was fantastic, we had the garlic cheese bread to start and for our entrees, we had chicken and cheese ravioli, along with the seafood fettuccine. Each dish was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. The wine list was impressive and the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for, romantic, while still feeling relaxed. Would definitely recommend this place to friends."

  • "Another excellent meal at Scusa. We both had specials-pork chop and mash potatoes with shallots and salmon and polenta. Parking is a challenge and reservations are a must."

  • "Our dinner reservations were for Valentine's Day, and the restaurant was packed. We were seated promptly and on time. The service was excellent ,and the waiter could not have been any more helpful. If you go,don't miss the lobster ravioli or Scusa's garlic bread they are both a real treat. We both enjoyed the petrale and thought that the presentation was very good. This is truly a great way to spend an evening when visiting the Tahoe area."

  • "Overall it was really good! Good service and food. It was really loud though, and we don't usually get the seats I asked to be seated on my past reservations and it was loud and it feels like a bit too dark but its still good .they have good pricing, good entrées and desserts. I'm looking forward to make more reservations in the future ."

  • "The meal was better than average Italian, with many specialty dishes on the menu. The only down side was the waiter we had was a bit overbearing with his attitude that he was more important than anyone else in the room. Talk about an ego...wow he had it."

  • "Our party of five had not been to Scusa since the move to the new location, and what a mistake. It was even better than the old location. The salads were delicious and very large for the price. Our entrees were very good, including the special fish. We visited during the week and it was not crowded. The dining room is nicely decorated and much more enjoyable than the old location. We even splurged on a dessert. Sorry we had not gone sooner."

  • "Great Italian . This the second time we ate here and the food and service is always excellent. We had the veal marsala and the veal saltambucca. Both were great. My only question for the restaurant is why are the lights so low that it is so hard to read the menu? I think a brighter candle or just some brighter bulbs would not take away from the atmosphere."

  • "The food was fabulous! Had the lobster ravioli as an appetizer, my wife had the lasagna and I had chicken marsala and everything was great. Service was very good they could turn the lights up a bit as it was hard to read the menu though. But overall this is one of the better places to go for an excellent meal that isn't a $35+ higher end restaurant like those at the high rises."

  • "My husband and I have very different test to food, but Scusa good for both of us. Very nice service, live music and pleasing decor made our dinner notable."

  • "Went with my wife on our honeymoon and we had a terrific meal. The food was great and the wine list had great selections for below average pricing. The best part was the lobster ravioli. It was a special appetizer for the night, but I would recommend that it gets a spot on the menu. It is possibly the best dish I have ever had in my life. I was blown away by it. My wife had the meatballs and I had the sausage bolognese. They were both good but nothing special. The sausage had good Italian spice to it, but was a bit greasy."

  • "Had high expectations after having heard so many great reviews. The experience did not meet my expectations. We were inside the restaurant, ambiance was ok, waiter was stuffy and the restaurant ran out of one of the Italian wines we requested. The Mediterranean spinach fettuccini dish was bland and heavy and would not recommend. Don't know if I would go back."

  • "Ate here last year on vacation and it was very good then. Came back for another round and the food is still excellent. Scusa garlic bread and the lobster ravioli very superb. All other entrees very very good. Service was very attentive. Will come back"

  • "Had dinner day after Xmas Day-the place was very crowded; glad I made reservations at the restaurant in advance on Open Table. Service was fair to good-our waiter was very busy; they could have removed our appetizers from our table sooner but our main entrees arrived on time; the noise level was a bit high-it was hard at times to hear what my dinner guests were saying. The food overall was very good; however we all felt that there was too much sauce on all our pasta dishes. Would go again; maybe not on a busy night."

  • "The basic menu options such as Marinara sauce come out OK. The specials are average at best. As an Italian person, I found the food to be very American."
