  • "The wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Schooners. They seated us by a window with a fantastic view of Monterey Bay. Because of our anniversary they gave us a complimentary bottle of bubbly. The food was fantastic! I had baked lobster and the wife had salmon. At the end of dinner, we received a piece of cake with a candle. Very nice touch. Schooners also supplies the Monterey Plaza Hotels room service. We had breakfast delivered twice. It too was fantastic! I ordered my eggs over medium and that's exactly how they were, both mornings . . ."

  • "For the price, food was decent and varied enough. At the time we visited, in March, the seafood selection was limited and largely not local, which was a disappointment. The mahi-mahi was very good, the beef selections good but not spectacular, and everything else was solid. The deserts were also solid, but like the rest of the meal - nothing stood out, but nothing was poor either. The decor is tasteful and pleasant. The primary reason to come is location and views on the water, and they have some nice heated outdoor dining for outdoor eating on a cool evening."

  • "There are so many great restaurants in the Monterey/Carmel area, that one usually doesn't go to a hotel's restaurant to dine. Schooners is an exception. The views are spectacular, the food is tasty and the noise level is low. I like that there are many options for smaller plates, and that the menu offers smaller versions of their pasta entrees."

  • "The food was very good but the experience was less than optimal. We were a party of 5 and we complicated matters by 3 of us showing up on time while 2 were 30 minutes late. We were seated at what they called the "chef's table", a high top very near the open kitchen. We were told we were lucky to have such a prized spot. Other than water service, we were ignored for almost 30 minutes until I stopped the server and told him we wanted to order wine and appetizers. We were seated at 7:45pm, we didn't leave until almost 11pm, it seemed like we were there for days. It was a very awkward seating arrangement, in the path of very busy servers, far away from the window view. It just was not very pleasant, our server seemed very inexperienced."

The presentation was beautiful. We were celebrating my girlfriend's 50th birthday and the hostess knew about it since I had noted it in my online reservations. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend. Will definitely return!"

  • "Schooners has an amazing view and great ambiance. The place seems pretty new and has an upscale nautical theme, as you would expect, but it's also a very comfortable place. We went In the evening on a weeknight with our 6 and 7 year old and had a great experience. The staff was on top of everything, helpful with menu choices, and kept thatbread and water refilled and used dishes removed. The food was better than I expected from what I thought was going to b a hotel/prime spot experience, but all of our food was quite good, as we're the cocktails, we had the clam appetizer and we each had a fish dish, and everything was cooked correctly and had wonderful favors."

Our server Alex was outstanding in every way. The menu offers a great variety. I had searched out a bucket list of great restaurants on the California coast. We will go out of our way to get to Monterey's Cannery Row. The food was cooked exactly right; there is a good wine list. A fantastic experience. We will be back many times for sure."

Our meal from appetizers to check was over 2 and a half hours. Thankfully the full moon on the ocean was romantic. Try them out it was worth the wait.."

  • "Our evening started out with a nice table tucked away in the corner yet accommodated a pretty view of the beach below. Our appetizer, the clams, was the highlight of the evening. From there, the food taste and quality went downhill. My girlfriend ordered the short ribs, which were luke warm upon arrival and extremely salty. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet and it to, was only warm, not hot. The steak itself was a low grade filet lacking tenderness. I ate the bacon and left most of the steak. Unfortunately I will never be returning and would not ever recommend this to a friend."

  • "My girlfriend and I had a late afternoon meal earlier in Carmel and decided to have a stay in the area and find something that served seafood -- Monterey was the logical choice. After looking at some of the other choices in the Cannery, we found Schooners. The restaurant was overlooking the water, creating a nice ambiance. Since we weren't too hungry, we shared a sampler of oysters, shrimp, and crab dip, along with a side of Brussels sprouts. I would've preferred the sprouts to be a bit more charred, but overall the plates were quite good."

Our waitress was attentive but not hovering. The food was excellent, the wine choices great and they even brought me a little birthday surprise for dessert. We would definitely go back again and suggest to others to give it a try!"

  • "My wife and I had a fine dinner at Schooner's on Saturday Jan 4. Arrived for our reservation 30 minutes early, and they seated us immediately - no problem. We ordered the Swordfish and Ahi Tuna - both were hot, moist and delicious. Side dish vegetables were cooked perfectly, not at all mushy. Desert was a mint chocolate ice cream mud pie -- done like a parfait -- fun! Our waitress Sanda was attentive and on top of it, and took very good care of us. We had a delightful evening, and I happily recommend Schooner's."

  • "We found this gem at first by browsing Yelp. We were lucky enough to find a reservation and snapped it up. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly valet, (which is complimentary when dining), and walked downstairs. We had the choice of outside or in, but chose to sit outside at a 2 person table that hugged the railing overlooking Monterey bay. We were fortunate enough to have heaters, so even on a cool January night, the temperature was just right (although they have blankets if you need them). The food was amazing, the Crab Fondido perfect, and the Morro Bay oyster shooters a must have. The entry, peanut crusted Mahi Mahi was perfectly cooked and desert was excellent!. Wonderful place for a special occasion, highly recommend."

  • "For an upscale restaurant with a great ocean side view, the restaurant could have a lot more service training. The service is extremely slow from refilling water, to taking the order, and serving the next course. We were seated next to a prep station for water refills, each time a server came by, they would bump into the chair and not say excuse me or pardon, let alone sorry. As a result, we had to move the table over to allow them some room after about the 20th bump. The clam chowder was runny with only one clam served in the bowl. The cioppino for two was just average. The crab body was in the cioppino, how do you eat this? This is a hot dish, who would want to use their hands on a hot dish?"
