The otherwise bland stretch of Old Todd’s Road belies the elegance and sophistication of the restaurant’s cool interior, and of the food. School occupies a cozy, cheerful space with… colorful wooden geometric patterned walls and minimalistic furniture. The ingredients range far and wide and straddle the familiar to foreign. Sushi transported on a conveyor system which can be selected at the patron’s convenience takes center stage. If sushi does not strike your fancy I especially like what School does with French selections. Don’t be fooled, this is authentic French. School also boasts a Culinary Cocktail Lounge (one of a kind in Lexington), 40+ different bottles of wine & shochu, and a private karaoke room that can be reserved by the hour. While located in heart of the Bluegrass you will definitely feel you have been transported to a much larger city for the evening.Continued

"Enjoyed the ambiance and service. It was a fun, different atmosphere with an eclectic menu. I thought the fusion of french and Japanese food was unique. The server did a great job of explaining the menu, spacing out the dishes so it was several small courses, and giving us just enough space to carry on conversation but never left us waiting too long."

"Good, but the menu is hard to follow. Since bread is not served, I still think if asked for rice should be served on the house. We can't wait till they have specials, especially the Fresh whole tuna carved in the restaurant."

"The sushi could be ordered off the menu or taken from a conveyor belt that runs through the restaurant. We went on a Monday night and there were a lot of orders but not a lot of sushi on the conveyor belt. By the time we left, the restaurant was full but no sushi had been put out since we arrived and the conveyor belt was empty.

We had several rolls, edamame, and miso soup. Everything we ordered was very good. The first rolls we had were taken off the conveyor belt and were good, but no longer tasted fresh."

"Had an appt at 7:00 on a Friday and the restaurant was only half full. It took the server about 10 minutes to even acknowledge our presence to ask for ouyr drink choices. Upon getting our drinks and waiting another 10 minutes, we promptly ordered an appetizer AND the sushi we had picked out. We ordered the cream of asparagus appetizer and found it to be very salty. We also ordered 5 rolls of sushi and were very surprised to see how small they were-not only in number of pieces but also in the size of the pieces. Overall, we thought the higher prices and average food quality led to just a "blah" feeling about the whole place. We will not be going back."

"Went for Valentine's Day 2012. We were tucked in a nice little corner with mood lighting and our own section. At first the server didn't know we were there, but once he saw us the service was great. The sushi was fantastic, especially some of the specialty rolls. The Spider Roll was the best thing we ordered. The prices were very good considering the quality of fish presented. I would highly recommend trying School out."

"School is a gem for the Lexington restaurant scene. The food is excellently prepared and served in good portions. The flavors are authentic and the menu serves the likings of almost anyone's tastebuds. The sushi is just another great addiditon and is creatively served via conveyer belt like sushi-wa's in Japan. The only hassle may be the price but I wouldn't hesitate to say that it would be worth the cheque."

"I love this place! It's our favorite in town. They have some of the best sushi I have ever had. And their steak with truffle sauce is amazing! The waiters are also very knowlegable about the menu, which is an added bonus."
