A word from Sazon - Santa Rosa
Say "sah-ZAWN" when you say Sazón, the new Peruvian restaurant in the Roseland neighborhood of Santa Rosa. You"re just as likely to say, "Wow!" or "Ahhhh!" or even "M-mmm!" because Sazón will delight you with authentic dishes of Peru. Ají amarillo the most important ingredient in Peruvian cooking. The Navarro family — father and two sons — who operate Sazón don't cater to the timid American palate by stinting on this hot pepper or others in their sauces. They are blazing hot, just like at home in Peru. To sum up: Real Peruvian food has come to Sonoma County and it's wonderful! Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Sazon is now offering a selection of ceviche appetizer specials that our party took advantage of the other day. If it wasn't the tilapia that they put in several of them we would have gobbled nothing but them. And where else can you indulge in pisco sours the real Peruvian way."

  • "I hadn't been to Sazon for a couple of years so it was a delight to dine there again. We are big fans of the causas and cévichés, and some other dishes too. Two surprises this time, both new since the last time we ate there: Pizco sours (good surprise!) and higher prices (bad surprise!). I think the ahi céviché (an appetizer, or "aperitivo") is now $17; I'm sure it used to be under $10. The old prices were pretty low and they probably weren't charging enough, so now it's a fairly-priced place instead of a bargain find. Two years ago we usually had to wait for a table, but this time it was only half full. Maybe the new prices have slowed business, or maybe Sundays are just slow. Still, a fun and very tasty night out! Highly recommend."

  • "We loved the food here and will definitely return again! Highly recommend to all in Santa Rosa."

  • "The food was wonderful (try the Ahi ceviche!!), I loved the white sangria. Do make reservations; this gem is no longer a secret! One of the other reviewers made a comment about it being a strip mall kind of place and I expected plastic tables or something, but the decor was very nice. My only discomfort was that the halogen lights were so bright that I had to wear my sunglasses, and the music became so loud at times that people had to raise their voices to be heard in conversation. The owner is very attentive and the service was perfect!"

  • "I have never had a bad experience at Sazon. It is nice to see they have updated the decor, but the ambience was never the draw. Sazon has some of the best Peruvian food in bay area. It was my friends first time there. She loved everything, including the beef heart (what's not to love)."

  • "Fresh and delicious food. Nice and accommodating servers. My friends and I will definitely return."

  • "If you crave authentic recipes from Lima, Peru, head over to Sazon on Sebastopol Rd. The seafood dishes including a variety of ceviches are excellent and the menu also includes traditional chicken, pork and beef dishes. From delicious starters, soups, Causa Limena, Lomo Saltado, to Lucama ice cream, you'll find something special for your taste buds. This small noisy restaurant with friendly service will surprise you!"

  • "I've been to this restaurant many times and the food is always great. I had the Ceviche Verde and Atun Criollo this week (restaurant week) and it was excellent."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Surprised at how small Sazon is. Menu is extensive and we chose the Restaurant Week menu for $15. Lunch was excellent, however, service was less than stellar. Hoping that this was due to large crowd with overwhelmed wait staff and kitchen. It is definitely worth another try as the menu is innovative and food tasty!"

  • "This restaurant had excellent food and very good service. Recommend to anybody who likes Peruvian food, and to others who may want to try it...this place is a winner."

  • "Everything was really great. Food service was first class. And the price was great"

  • "Located in a tiny strip mall on a busy street, Sazon is a destination restaurant. The Peruvian food, however, is first class. We recently had the fish tacos (excellent), potato "croquettes" (tasty), green lip mussels (very good, but too much salsa), and a awesome ceviche. You can easily pay $50 for two people for lunch, but it is worth it."

  • "Sazon is a little gem of a restaurant with authentic Peruvian cuisine. Many of the key ingredients have been imported from Peru, but put together in dishes that are 100% contemporary. Presentation was outstanding. Service personal and informed about ingredients and combinations. We waited a bit for our two entrees, but only because they were prepared from scratch. Will definitely go back again, and again."

  • "We've only lived in the area a short time and have heard about Saźon. Having never experienced Peruvian cuisine before, we didn't know what to expect. . . and we're blown away. Awesome flavors, perfect portions and reasonable prices."

  • "Great place, killer ceviche and paella. The server was awesome, she was very helpful, always there when we needed something and super friendly. Don't miss this place!"

  • "It is hard to find a great place to eat that is open on Monday. The Peruvian menu is not familiar to many but every dish is tasty. Staff is friendly and professional."

  • "way too expensive to make this and frequent stop. For this price needed white tablecloths and lit candles."

  • "Food was ok. Charge for ahi....are you kidding me? Overpriced. Small portions. Service not so good. Good luck to you."

  • "I wanted to impress my wife with a romantic dinner that would be memorable. We have tired of Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, and 'American' cuisine. So spicy Peruvian food was just the ticket. Absolutely delicious food."

  • "A great find outside of Santa Rosa with "real Peruvian food" in a' joint-like' setting. Service is terrific and the staff very helpful with the menu. The restaurant has a 'strip mall' atmosphere but don't be put off because the food is so good. Give it a try but make reservations because there's not many tables. The owner had to turn away several potential diners because they were fully booked. Bigger space needed??"

  • "Our first and so far only experience dining at Sazon Peruvian Cuisine was on Valentine's Day 2014. THe food was creative and carefully prepared. They did have some dishes that one wouldn't find anywhere else and there was plenty of variety within the menu. The staff was friendly. I wouldn't call the service outstanding, but it was Valentine's Day and they had people waiting for tables, so they were especially busy. The restaurant is small and the tables a little crowded, but not overly so, and the noise level was fine: We had no problem hearing each other in a normal tone of voice."

  • "We went to Sazon for Valentines Day. Though we had an 8:15 reservation, we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated, but the restaurant was packed and the wait staff was friendly. Food came quickly, though an ingredient I had asked to be excluded was included. They were apologetic about it and quickly turned it around again correctly. There were unusual items on the menu, the food was good, and beautifully presented, and an eclectic crowd made it fun for people watching. I'd definitely like to return again and try some other things on the menu."

  • "Wow! I had heard about this restaurant but hadn't made it there until last Friday. It's now my favorite restaurant in Sonoma County. The food is amazingly fresh, delicious and well presented. The ceviches are sublime and we had the paella and an ahi salad that were also perfectly prepared and delicious. The family atmosphere could not be friendlier. We told the owner when we left that they have to find a bigger building and he said that they are looking. We'll be back here and judging by the numbers of people who they turned away the night we were there, I will definitely need to use Open Table to make a reservation!"

  • "We had the ahi cerviche which is always wonderful and plentiful, shared the three appetizer special, mussels special, and fish tacos. Very good!!"

  • "The best Peruvian food in Northern California. While Sazon doesn't have the variety of some of the larger Peruvian restaurants in San Francisco, what it has is better and less expensive. Outstanding ceviche. Delightful sangria. Friendly attentive service. It's small and popular make sure you make a reservation."

  • "It's small and crowded and not physically super comfy, but the food is superb and different and the service is attentive and efficient. Highly recommend."

  • "I've eaten at Sazon several times and each time have been really delighted with the delicious food. Living in San Francisco, I'm spoiled for choice with fine restaurants. Even so, I really look forward to returning to Sazon. The staff are super friendly and treat their customers amazingly well. They don't do white tablecloths or candlelit dinners. But if what you want is flavorful food, beautifully presented, at affordable prices then this is the place for you. It's easily the best Peruvian restaurant I've found in the Bay Area. I haven't been to Peru...yet! I only hope their food can live up to what I've experienced at Sazon!"

  • "A sweet little out of the way restaurant, sazon Surprises with a very flavorful ceviche and excellent Entrees. The staff is friendly and capable. This Is a nice alternative to the wine country fare. It isn't too noisy And if you miss Peru you'll enjoy it mucho."

  • "Sazon is a great change from the usual. Various ceviches and empanadas are all very good. The ingredients in Peruvian food are familiar but the the seasonings and the way they are combined make this place worth the drive to the outskirts of Santa Rosa."

  • "Really enjoyed our first visit here Friday night. We had heard about the great ceviche and it did not disappoint. Had exceptional, well-timed service from the owner - on the spot to clear plates and almost immediately the next course was presented. Nice presentations, delicious Peruvian specialties (don't miss the ice cream for dessert). It is a small restaurant so best to make reservations. Our only disappointment was having to sit right by the front door (all other tables were taken). Will definately return, with guests!"

  • "Sazon is family owned and operated. The owner waited on us and was friendly as usual. The food is authentic and so good. It's a taste of the Andies in Sonoma County. Highly recommended."

  • "I took two girlfriends there that have never eaten peruvian food and they both loved it. The ahi ceviche is amazing, as well as all of your main courses, there were only two issues, we had to wait 20 minutes beyond our reservation time to be seated and the noise level makes it difficult to have a conversation. The food and service made up for both!"

  • "I am really glad we had reservation because this tiny very popular joint gets packed on Saturday night. I know why too... The food is amazing, colorful, and unique!"

  • "The food and service were outstanding! The location and the restaurant being a bit on the small side are the minuses for this place."

  • "The food presentation is first class and everything we tried was Delicious. Preparation is quick and food is delivered at the appropriate temperatures, which can be difficult with hot, warm and cold dishes on the menu. I was fortunate to have an experienced Peruvian diner along for some excellent recommendations. The ceviche was my favorite. Go for the food! Our server lacked personality but she did take time to explain the dishes and answer questions."

  • "the place is very small and very popular, but worth the short wait. The shrimp ceviche was excellent, as were the chicken stew and pork stew (forget the Peruvian names). Good pisco sour. It's a low key, unpretentious place that serves good basic Peruvian food. I hope they move to larger space!"
