Diner Reviews
  • "I went to SAX for a Sunday brunch with my husband and mom, and we had a blast. The food is quite "French", as in portions are on the smaller side vs. American standards, but I liked the feeling of not being totally stuffed after a meal. The ambiance is amazing, and probably even more so if going there for dinner. The show runs every 15min and is different every time, so we were always surprised. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for quality entertainment "burlesque" style! "

  • "After reading other reviews, we were apprehensive about the food, but that was actually surprisingly good, especially the Duck and the Lobster entrees and the chorizo shared appetizer. Drinks also pretty good. But we sat through 6 different Burlesque acts, of which 5 were monotonous repeats of each other in different costumes and wigs, and one was a mildly entertaining pole dance. Between the heavy bordello atmosphere, loud music and female exploitation both as wait staff and behind glass, it seemed like a visit to an Asian city 20 years ago. Wouldn't go long on this business model in Washington, the city of Serious Women."

  • "Menu and food could've been better. The food was covered in clover like garnishment. I don't feel as if the dancers did enough sets as described. Great for a one time only, / special event. Our waitress Aubrey was sweet and very attentive. "

  • "Sax is a great place for a nice evening out. Drinks are great, atmosphere is great, and the food is solid. The service and wait staff are also fantastic. They are a bit pricey, but worth the expense-- just be sure to make reservations at least a week in advance. If I had to make a criticism, I would say they should interject more variety into their menu. Their cooking style and menu items have generally been the same for the past year from the last time I was there. Other than that, its a great place. "

  • "Our server was very attentive and not overbearing. Fun to watch the burlesque shows and the decor really sets the mood. My husband and I went as something different for our anniversary. We did not select an anniversary package, however mentioned it was our anniversary in our open table reservations and we received a complimentary shot to start off and a red velvet cake at the end. Very nice touch! This would also be fun dining experience with a group of friends."

  • "This was me and my boyfriends first time here and it was amazing. We enjoyed the ambiance and the food was spectacular. Our waitress was very friendly (forgot her name). We really enjoyed the entertainment! We definitely will be dining here again! Great for a romantic dinner or simply just a night on the town. You won't be disappointed. "

  • "I went with a group of 8 for my wives birthday. The service was excellent before we even step foot on the premises. OpenTable only allows you to seat 6. I was able to call the restaurant and get 2 more seats hours before my reservation. Valet parking was reasonably priced. The food was exotic and tasty to say the least. Though dinner was a little pricey I would definitely recommend SAX and go back. "

  • "Service was great. Food is terrible and expensive. Baked Brie is 3 quarter sized pieces of Brie on top of a dry puff pastry. Dessert needs to be taken out of the fridge a little earlier it's too chilled and hard because it's cold. (We had the cake) Cocktails need much improvement. We should have ordered a bottle of wine but was in a cocktail fun kinda mood. This place wants to be high end and you want to be too because the staff is awesome but it just isn't. The ambiance is great and the burlesque show is fun. The hostess, servers and bartenders are all very attentive. Dancers came through the room and had a quick interaction with every party which was nice. I wish I had tried the Sunday brunch instead."

  • "We really enjoyed our evening at Sax (and like it for the occasional weekend bar drop-in). I see it as paying for the show via drinks and food which is worth it. The chef knows well how to present the food. The taste is nothing really special, though - but not bad either. My boyfriend loved it, I (food snob) missed a certain level of quality I would expect at these prices (think more real truffles instead of aroma). Cocktails are great, too. The service is great, the costumes amazing and the overall experience well worth the price. "

  • "The ambience and experience was spectacular...I was so pleased with the entertainment and service. My waitress Felicity was a gem."

  • "I took my boyfriend there to celebrate his birthday. He'd never been to any place quite like it, and really enjoyed the ambiance and performers (especially the swing and the juggler). The food was great, and the portions were human-sized, so we were able to eat everything without having to get a to-go box AND without feeling stuffed. One of the performers made three deliveries to our table upon my request, carrying a different gift each time. Our waitress also gave us a complimentary birthday shot...it was yummy!"

  • "Everything was great. The wait staff was excellent and gave great suggestions and aimed to please. My only negative are that the performances are too few and far in-between. Each is an average of 3min and a wait on an average of 12min before the next performance. Also the dancers are so so but the concept is fabulous and sensual. For women, don't expect a man's man performance, the guy had a great body but he was just too feminine for me."

  • "We were so excited to enjoy Brunch. The food was mediocre and the entertainment (Burlesque) was just okay. We expected to see more experienced dancers and frequent dancers. The Hostess recommended that we come back on a Friday when there is more entertainment and the place is more vibrant."

  • "We were looking for a fun place for my GF to host a bachelorette party for her niece. This is definitely the spot! We went for brunch and it wasn't crowded but the service was great and they brought endless mimosas and bloody Mary's. Food was excellent but the entrees were served warm, not hot. Our server explained every option in detail. The decor was totally over the top, lots of red and gold, and the dancing shows every ten minutes were very professionally done. We were told that Friday night was really special, so the girls should have lots of fun when they celebrate, although they should expect to pay $100 + for prix fixe food, drink, tax and tip."

  • "Great ambiance, the food was a great variety. The show was good but have to say, i have seen much better. The location is great, service was phenomenal and the portions were perfect. You truly have a four course meal and leave feeling good about how much you are."

  • "The atmosphere is the best thing about SAX. The room is an intimate setting and dimly lit for a romantic dinner. Our server (Melissa) was great, but at times her helpers were too helpful, filling our glasses almost after each sip. The food was ok, but not very satisfying as the portion sizes left a lot to be desired (Eat before you go!). The show is ok, but not what we expected. Every 15 minutes or so, the actors would appear behind a glass screen over the bar, almost like watching a live movie. In all, if you only want atmosphere, SAX is the place."

  • "SAX is a differentiated experience with the ballet-like shows every ten minutes, giving you various breaks for conversation and mini-shows. Food is excellent and service is outstandingly perfect. Price is a bit high, but we went there for my wife's birthday and they gave us free shots and a free birthday cake to celebrate."

  • "Iawesome time for my birthday or server was fantastic and really helped us navigate the menu overall one of my favorite places to you enjoy myself in DC"
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "The food was very mediocre; the scallops (appetizer) were drenched in sauce so I could barely taste them, and the two scallops were quite small; the duck duck goose entree was tiny and lacked taste, flavors were not distinguishable; the dessert tasted like frozen Pepperidge Farm, and in fact was still 20% frozen when served to us."

  • "I went on a Thursday night for a birthday celebration. The food was just ok. I would recommend the truffle fries and the giggle water for sure. Maybe going on a weekend would be better because although the dancers were entertaining I didn't feel wowed. And in fact I felt like the whole night was slow and the dancers didn't come out every 8 minutes like advertised. Also online it says they close at 2am on Thursdays but we were kicked out at midnight and the dancers stopped coming out around 11:30pm. Must admit that I was disappointed especially since we spent close to $250 for dinner."

  • "I took my wife there for her 44th birthday. Excellent!!! Service was great and the food was excellent - server was exceptional!!!! My wife wanted to go somewhere adult and sexy.... We had been there for a birthday celebration before (larger group). The atmosphere was just as good for two...."

  • "The burlesque brunch was so much fun. The dancing was great to watch, the staff were extremely friendly, and the energy in the room was awesome, People were dancing between the tables. And I haven't even mentioned how good the food tasted! It's a little pricey, but so worth it for a special occasion!"

  • "Saturday Night &Party of 2. Used a living social coupon $100 for $200 . Spend $100 first and then you get 2 gifts cards worth of $50 each.I was unhappy about mandatory consumptiom minimum of $75 per person. Didn't like the fact about manager saying that she didn't want to be misleading but I should be aware of the minimmum per person because it was on open table. She did that after we ordered our food. I ended up spending around $189 which $89 were not covered by the LS deal which means I have to go again to this place or try their sister's restaurants. They also charged me a %20 services fee (tip) when that should be my choice.Generally speaking food, ambiance and waiters were quite good."

  • "Servers always acted like they were overwhelmed/busy-could barely answer their questions before they were running off from the table. Almost made you feel as if they were asking "just to ask" not to even get answer. It was really irritating. Drinks were great-bday shots & dessert were brought out complimentary. Our entrees were expensive yet sub-par. Ambience was amazing. We had lots of fun, but don't go for the food."

  • "We made reservations for a Friday evening. Upon arrival, we were informed that there was already a couple at our reserved seats. To make up for this inconvenience, the hostess bought us two drinks for our inconvenience. This was a nice and hospitable thing for them to do. This made the 15 minute wait a non-factor as we stood and watched the show as we waited. I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic date night."

  • "I took this as a special occasion restaurant, it was my 30th bday, and I thought it was a worthy place to include in my list of entertainment. It was! A little vegas-style entertainment and a bunch of fancy plates. This restaurant lives up to it's hype. I wasn't upset about the $75 pp minimum (i.e. overpriced food) bc the performers work hard for the money and they're friendly and ready to take pics. The show is sexy and grown-up. I'm not the best person to give a food review bc I'm a simple girl, and I had to google some things so I'd have at least an idea of what I was getting. Towards about midnight the music got so loud you could hardly have a table convo and the area in front of the bar turned into almost a dance floor."

  • "I liked Sax the show was great but the food was awful. My fiance ordered his steak well done but it arrived rare. We didn't send it back (self explanatory). It was so loud in there that we were yelling so much love left with a soar throat. The drinks were great. For the price or should I say cover charge I was expecting more."

  • "It was such a fun and romatic experience, just an experience in its self! I took my friend for his birthday, we have told so many people about this and will frequent again and again, memorable is the right word to describe this restaurant."

  • "Brought out of town visitors to SAX's burlesque brunch and we had a fabulous time! For a 'lounge and nightclub' I expected the interior to be tired and sticky -- but it was clean, plush and really well decorated. The bottomless mimosas and bloody marys are generous and continuous. The entertainment is tasteful and sort of above head level so it's kind of in the background but worth watching. Food was overall very good but some choices better than others. The mini muffins and cheese scones at the start of the meal were out of this world! The ginger squash soup was amazing, but the oatmeal 'brulee' was pretty poor -- not a brulee at all, but a bowl of oatmeal. Mains were decent -- the sliders looked the best, followed by the rib tips."

  • "I came here on a date night with my boyfriend. We had such a great time! We enjoyed the shows that were going on. I liked the food. It certainly wasn't worth the $75 minimum but the environment made up for it!"
