  • "Dined here for my birthday after discovering it online. It is delicious and fun. We sat outside under heaters and were very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were satisfied. The food was amazing and unique. I definitely recommend the chicken Parmesan :)"

  • "Sauce on Belden has the excellent cuisine found in their original location on Gough, but the space has more of a casual "bar" atmosphere throughout, rather than the more formal, Gough dining room with table cloths. The service from our bartender was exceptional!"

  • "Sauce is in a very festive and European-ish alley of many restaurants. We ate lunch outside. The food came quickly and was delicious. I'm gluten-free and they were very understanding and confidently listed the items i could have. A great experience!"

  • "This was my first visit to this location - the original Sauce on Gough is one of my all-time favorites! And the top-notch food and service are here as well. Happy 2nd anniversary Sauce - Belden........the two for one night was a fabulous surprise!!!"

  • "This was a great second location for a good restaurant. I don't feel like it was the same but that's not always a bad thing. It was however tasty. My biggest miss was a somewhat small beer list, could have been better but still a great meal."

  • "Two Words: MINI CRONUTS. The vanilla bourbon sauce that came with it was incredible. No joke, my friends and I came back the following night to get more cronuts. The deviled eggs with bacon and ham filled tater tots were also excellent. The service was great and prices were totally reasonable. I suggest doing a meal here with ordering a bunch of stuff and sharing as a table because you'll want to taste it all!"

  • "I truly enjoyed dining at Sauce-Belden. We were sat outside which was a little noisy, but really enjoyed our meals and drinks. The Short Rib Wellington is a can't miss."

  • "Needed to find a late night restaurant since my flight arrived after 10pm. Kitchen was still making the full menu , unlike so many other "late night" dives that are only willing to crank out quick stuff. Servers are super friendly & know food-drink pairings well. Friday nite is of course loud, but I'll be back!"

  • "The mac and cheese was delicious. The veggie burger was a little dry, but tasty."

  • "I am a fan of Sauce at Belden Place! I stumbled across this place during a late night hunt for some grub upon arriving in San Francisco. Sauce at Belden was the only restaurant opened at midnight in the area of my hotel. Love the food and the friendly service and has been returning ever since. For my recent trip to San Francisco, I went to Sauce twice and with separate groups of friends. I was able to try various items on the menu as we had our food family style. I also tried the dessert sampler for the first time and it was divine. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants delicious American comfort food with friendly service."

  • "Love the social plates and server happily splitting our shared entree. Fun Friday night in spite of the blustery weather. Sauce is a go to place for me."

  • "Had a really nice customer lunch there. Good food, though the burgers are almost too big. Ambiance was great, meaning energetic without impacting our conversation. Service was very good, and we will definitely be going back with customers. Only about $20/person before gratuity, which was very reasonable."

  • "We loved the menu, the taste of the food did not disappoint. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Additionally, they were willing to make gluten-free accommodations on menu items. This is a huge bonus!! We really enjoyed our meal and were very pleased with the overall experience. This little alley of restaurants is so charming, I would recommend it to anyone!"

The outdoor seating has a very European feel. the food is exceptional. Great drinks. All around a fantastic dinner. We will definitely be back."

  • "My boyfriend and I were so impressed by this spot. On a rainy night, it looks like it's not even open. It was aesthetically pleasing, enough screens for you to watch sports from anywhere in the restaurant/bar, and the food spoke for itself. The hangar steak was mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. The salad that accompanied it was well put together. The dessert was nothing to write home about (the cro-nuts), but the drink selection was impressive. It was great to not feel rushed on a Sunday night."

  • "One of the better places in Belden place. Great Dine About Town menu (one of the best ones I've had ever). Salmon, Chicken parm, and s'mores dessert were outstanding. Brussels sprout salad was underwhelming, unfortunately. Great service as well. I would recommend this place to a friend and would come back next time in the neighborhood."

  • "My hangar steak was good, but not great. It was cooked medium and cooked correctly, but overall a little tough."

  • "Service was ok; waitress was somewhat lukewarm. Table of 6 sat outside but the ground is sloped which made for awkward seating. 5 of us opted for Dine About Town prix fix menu; 2 of us selected the short rib done wellington style & brussel sprout salad; we were both disappointed in the salad (dressing was a bit too sweet) & the wellington was over cooked and dry even tho they served it with a gravy type sauce. Salmon entree was also overcooked. Bacon & egg appetizer was delish and so was the mini smore dessert. Lobster Roll and Chicken parm entrees were enjoyed."

  • "Visiting San Fran and was looking for a fun, fresh meal - this one did not disappoint. Food was fresh, delicious, and had a creative take on familiar items. I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and would definitely return if we make it back to the area again. So good."

  • "Went during DAT. Service was very prompt, flowed well. I had the Portobello Mushroom fries (2) with half of a deviled egg to start and the NE Seafood Chowder for my main dish. The food was delicious and hot when it arrived. The chowder was a very generous portion for lunch; maybe a tad too rich and salty for me near the end. Would have tasted better with crumbled bacon on top and some fresh bread/rolls. Peanut butter cookie for dessert (not my fave cookie flavor) and seemed under backed (very liquid like in the middle) that I left uneaten. I sat outside as the weather was nice & could only look longingly at the diners next door who were all served a basket of fresh rolls. Definitely plan to come back and try other dishes from the menu."

  • "Had a wonderful New Years Eve late dinner. Despite being busy, the hostess/waiters were nice and allowed us to be leisurely. A little pricey, but it was San Francisco on New Year's Eve (and it was a good deal compared to other places). Definitely plan on coming back again!"

  • "Try the Portabella fries, but eat them while they are hot. Chicken parm with pomodoro sauce was fabulous, and so were the double burgers. I had the pomodoro sauce on the side to pour over my housemade papardelle pasta; took a bit of the chicken home, and it was still great the next day. Service was atenitve but now fawning--superb, overall--and Belden Place is always a fun place to dine. Great value. We'll be back."

  • "I don't eat out much, so having been to Sauce 4 to 5 times in the past 3 months says it all! Love the Ambiance of Belden Lane partnered with a Great Food and Drink Menu. Superb. I now bring my out of town clients here for lunch and dinner and it's always been a hit. The staff are really nice and very accommodating."

  • "Just outside the Union Sq holiday crowds so it's vibrant, but not swamped with people/tourists. I highly recommend the bacon-wrapped meatloaf and the Louis salad."

  • "Sauce was lively, food was delicious during lunchtime on the patio. Having not seen the inside of the restaurant, I recommended it for entertaining friends before a play. The evening atmosphere was lacking. The interior felt a bit cold and stark compared to the warmth of the lunchtime experience. The food was ok but nothing memorable. I would not recommend for an evening out in San Francisco."

  • "Great little restaurant on a vibrant alley. Hanger steak with fig, nuts, and Gorgonzola salad is phenomenal. Cool location and busy, energetic restaurant."

  • "The staff was attentive and always there when we needed. They were very accommodating of our requests. Food was fantastic and the kitchen was able to handle all of our orders at one time. Definitely a return to try other entrees."

  • "Foodies and those looking for something unique, cozy or romantic won't be disappointed. The service was amazingly fast without sacrificing food quality. We started with the chili and brussel sprout salad, and main entrees being the beef wellington and chicken parmesan. Couldn't resist the doughnut dessert. Would definitely go back again when in town."

  • "Got a last minute reservation at Sauce, after being told that our reservation would not be honored at a North Beach restaurant. Second time dining at Sauce. Food was superb, especially the Brussels sprouts salad and the fried chicken. Staff was very friendly although the kitchen was a little slow. Interior could use some redecorating."

  • "I was very pleasantly surprised. My wife and I were staying at a nearby hotel, and the menu intrigued us, which led to making the reservation. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed the ambience of this relatively small, bistro like restaurant. Compared to other dining establishments in the area, it was an outstanding value."

  • "Loved the location. Have been to the Sauce in Hays Valley. The menu was great, but some of it a little disappointing. My salmon entree was over-cooked and way too much salt. Roasted cauliflower salad was a nice idea, but again, way too much salt. Desserts were yummy. Be willing to give it another try, but right now Sauce in Hays Valley seems to have the better chef."

  • "I had been looking forward to dining at Sauce ever since I read their opening reviews in the paper. Browsing their online menu, I had already decided which entrees my friend and I were going to share. When seated, we were given a "bar" menu that only listed appetizers. When I asked the hostess where the entrée menu was, she said this was the ONLY menu available. Although disappointed, we stayed and ordered. The food was good -- varied presentations of traditional appetizers, most very tasty However, we later noticed that other tables were being served entrees and salads; and we had been singled out for receiving the wrong menu. The hostess did not apologize and just looked confused when we asked her, again, about the entrée menu."

  • "We ate at Sauce for my husband's birthday. While the food was super tasty, the ambience needed some work. It is located in Belden alley with seating inside and out. The lighting seemed bright inside so we opted to dine in the outside area. We were seated under the heater which made it nice and warm but the tables were arranged very close together. It made you feel as though you were sitting with the people next to you. That aside, we ordered the Ham Hock Tater Tots which were very good. My husband ordered the burger. I ordered the Albacore Tuna special. I cannot speak for my husband's dish but I will say that the tuna was to die for. I wanted to lick the plate clean.True! The food is worth coming back for but more for lunch than dinner."
