Diner Reviews
  • "we took visiting relatives from the East Coast to Sapphire for a Sunday brunch. It was the best meal of their vacation. Perfect setting, perfect day. They were very accommodating for our large group of 8 as well. This will always be on a highlights tour for any visitors now and we can't wait to return."

  • "I've met friends from LA several times at Sapphire as it's the mid-point from San Diego. Food is always quality, as well as service. This particular time, though, it was an extremely long wait for our food and the restaurant did not seem that full, so I don't know what the problem was. Fortunately, we were busy catching up and just as I was about to inquire about our meal's status, it arrived."

  • "On the inland side of PCH in Laguna Beach, the indoor/ outdoor restaurant sits high enough for an ocean view. The lunch menu is limited but varied enough to meet most tastes. There's a Persian theme in the appetizers; the clams are delicious, but skip the kale salad. I loved the spicy fish tacos. Since it was 1:30 on a cool Monday afternoon, there was seating inside and out, but come summer, you'll need a reservation."

  • "Been here a number of times previously and was always very good food and great service. Seemed a bit off this time. Service was intermittent - good at times, nonexistent at others. Food was average for this place, but still good."

  • "Beautiful out side tables with fireplace, heaters in addition to large, lively bar and beautiful dining room inside. Good service, interesting menu for food and cocktails. Delicious food. Great neighborhood location with lot of interesting street activity, AND private free parking. Good for brunch, lunch and dinner!"

  • "Irish specialties were given gourmet touch; service is always excellent. reservations for inside or patio are a must' Interior is wonderful craftsman soft light modern cottage style."

  • "Sapphire is one of my family's "go-to" standards for special occasions and fine dining in general. We love it for brunch, lunch and dinner. The service is top-notch, the drinks come quickly and continuously (if desired) and there are almost never any "misses" on the menu. If you love good seafood then dinner is a treat because most of their fare is seafood. That's not to say that they don't have other great dishes. On this occasion I enjoyed an amazing pork shank on spaetzle and cabbage. It just fell off the bone and had amazing flavor. Definitely a great place and we will continue to go back many, many times."

  • "If you need a really good "local" spot in Laguna that is not over priced or too crowded, then go to Sapphire's. I suggest watching the sunset at The Rooftop across the street & then heading here for dinner. They also have complimentary parking. The service was fine."

  • "Sapphire used to be on my favorite list but my last experience there was very disappointing. Our waiter was too busy somewhere else, and the food was good but it was not sufficient and after waiting for our waiter to show up so we could order more food, we decided to finish our meal somewhere else. We went to Montage for fish tacos and desert, it was great.."

  • "I chose Sapphire for my birthday dinner with my fiancé because we were spending the weekend in Laguna Beach. We had been here once before and I never forgot it. The food, service and ambience made for the perfect evening."

  • "Went here for a nice dinner with a friend: She picked the Mahi Mahi and it simply was excellent, I selected the pork shank and it was fall-off-the bone, juicy, tender. Sapphire has been a regular in my life and will maintain a special place in my heart. Service is excellent, the chef/owner always makes it a point to come to the table to find out if you enjoyed your dining experience. I can highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Chef Azmin is one of Southern California's greatest chefs. His restaurant is located in the old Pottery Shack, with the option to sit either inside or outside."

  • "We are Laguna locals and been to your restaurant on several occasions (at least 10 times+). Each time the service has been inconsistent and slow. Although the food is good, it's not great. The outside dining is a great draw when we bring our out of town guests to a restaurant. However next time we dine out, we will have to rethink about eating at Sapphires."

  • "Not sure what was up with the chefs in the kitchen when we were there this time - we normally love the food at Sapphire - maybe the second string was on line when we got there at 2:45pm... it was in between lunch and dinner and the menu was very limited ... no problem there ... but the chicken on top of my Caesar salad tasted like it was pre-boiled (ugh) and reheated and then placed on top of a small portion of wilted romaine!!! So disappointed and so unexpected!!! We will be back - but never at 2:45pm in between lunch and dinner service!!! We were incredibly disappointed...not at all what we expect of Sapphire :( no problem with the abbreviated menu at 2:45 ... but the quality of the food should be consistent"

  • "Sapphire's menu has lots of really interesting selections from which to choose--something sure to please everyone in your party, from those looking from something exotic, to others who'll only be happy with a burger (and Sapphires's is great).. But it's the service that caused me to write this review. We went for lunch on a rare day when the sun did not shine in Laguna. Our waiter, Sal, pulled out all the stops to make sure we were warm, including lighting an outdoor fireplace and pulling up two tall heaters. He customized our food choices just the way we wanted, even making great suggestions we hadn't thought of. We never had to ask for a refill for our drinks because he'd already taken care of it--along with anything else we needed."

  • "How bad can a meal be that starts with a bowl of potato chips? But this were thinly sliced on a mandoline and almost as light as air, herb-seasoned, and delicious! Then we shared the prawns, which were perfectly cooked and sauced. My husband had the short ribs which were tender and delicious, and I had the salmon which was divine--perfectly cooked with a delicious, carsmeluzed crust, and served with amazing Brussels sprouts and a hash of butternut squash and pecans. YUM! Our server suggested a wine for each of us that was perfect and, by the end of dinner, we were so full and satisfied we couldn't even fathom dessert, but next time maybe we'll forego the appetizer and share a dessert. And there WILL be a next time!"

  • "One of the best dining experiences we've ever had. The food was amazing, but the service was even better. We will return often!"

  • "Ordered the Roasted Bone Marrow appetizer. It was discribe dad something completely different than what we were served. The dish was supposed to be a spreadable marrow to go with toasted bread, what we received were croutons mixed with beef broth similar to bread stuffing not bone marrow."

  • "We come once a year for Sunday Brunch when we are in Laguna. If the weather is good...Sit our side to enjoy a beautiful view. Love the Ricotta Lemon Pancakes and the Baked Tomato and eggs with Kale."

  • "Our family has been to Sapphire Laguna many times, but this was probably our best evening we've ever had there. We were there to celebrate our daughter's birthday at her request. The food was just incredible as usual (favorite dish: the tenderloin with lobster ravioli can't be beat), but our service was just amazing as well. Our waiter suggested and brought us the dark chocolate creme brulee for dessert - absolutely scrumptious! Sitting outside on the beautiful patio with the fire pit going and the heat lamps makes for a very beautiful and comfortable evening in the winter. We will always return to Sapphire."

  • "We loved our first experience at Sapphire for lunch. Loved the decor and look of the place from the time we walked in. My BF and I shared a salmon entree (perfectly cooked) and the kobe cheeseburger. My mother also opted for the cheeseburger. Loved the cheesy bread rolls served individually prior to the meal. Everything we had was excellent and the service was attentive including a manager stopping by. The only mistake was when one of the servers put down the two cheeseburgers they switched the medium well one with the medium rare one and my mom took a few bites before realizing that. No big deal at all of course. We just loved the experience and sat leisurely - one of the best lunch experiences we'd had in some time."

  • "Went here for a joint birthday lunch with a friend. The food was good, but a touch off of the last time I was here. The service and atmosphere were both excellent. We stayed for a long time visiting and the staff was very attentive."

  • "Sapphire stays on my list of favorites. I love the varied menu with just enough choices for everyone. I appreciated that they were willing to modify an appetizer for me as I requested. The servers are friendly and professional. Wine list is reasonable. We appreciated the many half-carafe choices."

  • "The Rolls were fabulous - great flavor and hot! The ahi was seasoned well with the exception of salt - way too much - we sent it back. I ordered the chicken tangine. It sounded like a fabulous dish and could have been were it not for overcooked dry chicken. Not good at all. The other entree was Salmon and that was very good. Our server was excellent."

  • "The food was outstanding with a good selection of items for lunch. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and he had the "box lunch" that included five different items. The portions were generous and he took about half home and had it for dinner. I had the Kobe cheeseburger which was very tasty and a little messy. With a few extra napkins, I was just fine. We hared a creme brulee for dessert which was well prepared. The owner and chef stopped by the table and asked how we liked his food."

  • "I have to say I always start my date nights with one cocktail and I love an imaginative martini and recently on two occasions I had a cucumber ginger martini and now the pumpkin martini and am never disappointed! And I have sent back plenty of drinks that "sounded" good on the menu but these are consistently good. The food is always delicious too! I love the octopus salad and the heirloom beets are some of my favorites along with the black pepper prawns. I highly recommend going here!"

  • "I've been here a few times before and have to say the food is always good. Service is nice and friendly. Just this visit my Lettuce Wrap had a very small moving bug that I showed my friend...but having grown up in the food industry I've learned it's really hard to remove things from fresh vegetables. And my order of fries was given to another person sharing our table. So I have to say this visit was not up to par. But as usual I went to their store located right next door. Which I bought some cheeses and drinks. Even though my visit was not the best, they have always been really good in the past. And I would recommend them...especially their store."
