A word from Sakoon
Sakoon invites you to embark on an extraordinary culinary journey of India.

Nestled in downtown Mountain View, Sakoon offers diners a tantalizing blend of traditional and contemporary flavors representing multiple Indian regions. Our chefs have created dishes that borrow from the past, yet are reinvented anew with vibrancy and modern flair.

Named for the Indian word for "peace," Sakoon was designed to envelop diners in warmth and serenity. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted by the image of Buddha in hand-carved wooden panels, the glow from fiber-optic chandeliers, and the shimmer of a waterfall cascading into a pool of lotus petals.

We invite you to join us for an exquisite dining experience.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food choices were good, the food decent with very indifferent service. Our waiter was not interested in engaging with us to determine our interests and therefore choices. Forgot a few items and was not apologetic. Overall a mediocre experience. I have dined here in the past with much better service so I hope this is not a trend."

  • "Myself(I'm a veggie)and my friend(he is a non-veg) went for lunch ($16.26 with tax). The starters were good. The main course was Oily. The Bread(Naan) provided was smelling like the one you get from charred food. The Deserts were pathetic, specifically rasagoolas were really hard. We requested for some hot water and it took more than 10 minutes. Also when I requested for details on any specific dishes, the response was not that great. Adding to this, the toilets can be kept much more cleaner."

  • "Four of us went for buffet lunch on A Friday. good thing I had made a reservation! This buffet was the most comprehensive, beautiful one I have ever experienced. So many items I'd never met before. Each item was beautifully presented and the flavors were just right. this place gets very very crowded at lunch on Friday and the lines were sometimes long, and still, the serving was perfectly timed so that you never had to wait for replenishing. It was loud and lively and delicious. I am from chicago and we have many Indian restaurants- I eat Indian whenever I travel and this beats them all!!!!!"

  • "We had a great dinner at Sakoon. We were a group of 15 people, all the dishes we ordered (non-veg and veg) were very good. They seem to be short of waiters for a busy Friday evening. Once we could place our order, we were served quite quickly."

  • "Our dinner was full of spices, textures and great tastes. The service was very attentive and the avocado/potato appetizer we had was very unique. The contrasts of textures was excellent. We liked the fact that the dishes were slightly different from traditional Indian food but carried all of the traditional spices and chutneys. We will definitely go back and look forward to trying new things."

  • "The food and the waiters crew are nice. The manager is very rude and unfriendly. He appears to be unhappy with customers coming in to his restaurant"

  • "Other reviews criticized the service but we found it to bepretty good (although we did say that we had theater tickets), The tomato carrot soup and mesclun salad were VERY good. The fried shrimp appetizer was slightly overcooked and the coating was bland, however, the spicy mango sauce added a needed kick. The lamb curry sauce was on the spicy side (I requested extra heat), the way I like it but the lamb chunks were dry and a bit chewy. The basamati rice was EXCELLENT, perfectly cooked and fluffy. The wines by the glass were, in my opinion, a bit overpriced as was the overall experience; $90+ including tax and tip with only 1 entree and no dessert."

  • "We began wtih Sakoon Special Samosa and Potato "65". Both were fabulous! The Potato "65" had a bit of a bit, but it was superb. The Somosa's were on the smaller side, but that's fine. They were very crispy, which I enjoyed. The bread to filling ratio was a bit low, but that's they still tasted good. We had Chef's Special Channa Pindi and Dal Sakoonwala as our main entrees. They were both incredible! For dessert, we had to try the Strawberry Brulee! Even though I was full, that was the best brulee I've ever had.Next time (and there will be a next time), I will probably forgo the Samosas and try the Gobi "65". I couldn't have asked for a more attentive waiter. The decor and ambiance were fabulous. I will be visiting again."

  • "It was reasonable indian food served in eclectic manner- so that was good. The ambiance however was just so so. We got seated next to a big party that was way too noisy - and when a person from that party would get up - his chair would hit my elbow! Hmm...the space issue was just something I could not overlook."

  • "Went to Sakoon for a team dinner. The food was mediocre and not worth the price they charged. I would recommend Amber, Shiva or Roti over Sakoon."

  • "Quite a decent place for lunch. Quality of food and service is very good, definitely good for foodies. good varieties of options available for buffet on both ends (Vegge's & Non-Veg). Most definitely not a romantic place to visit as noise level due people flow is quite high during lunch hours. I guess if you need a quite place you might get it if we mentioned it during the request to make reservations. but i dont know. next time i make my reservations will definitely put forth this as my request. for now i definitely recommend SAKOON as a must visit for food fanatics. All the very best. "

  • "We went with a group of eight people and we ordered several dishes to share. Each dish was wonderful and very flavorful. I would definitely return. The whole group had a great time."

  • "Although everything we ordered was delicious, the tandoori chicken was unbelievably good-great flavor and moist! I'm craving more of it right now!"

  • "Four us us went there for lunch on a very busy Saturday 7 had the buffet.Unfortunately we had to wait a long time to order drinks, had to find a waiter to order naan & most of the food on the buffet was not very hot though the chef who was making the custom noodles did a fabulous job of cooking up noodle dishes & it was served right out of the pan so it was hot. The waiters were all very nice & helpful when we found them to ask for things but not proactive in coming to the tables. There were 4 desserts & they were all really good & at the right temperature. All the food was actually quite good - if they could do some employee training on waiting tables & keep the food warm on the buffet this would be a great place for an Indian buffet! "

  • "This was the second time I went back for buffet lunch with a friend. The Nan and the Tandoori chicken were very good. Variety of food served was very satisfactory. For me the service was not satisfactory because I felt a little pushed for paying and making room for new guest. My companion also felt the same way. Ambiance was acceptable, so also the noise level for a typical young IT crowd. Mango Lassi was good but not included in the buffet price."

  • "As other reviewers said. Good food, though we hoped it would be more exotic. Good service, comfortable interior. Overpriced for Indian, but then nearby Google pays well. We asked for 'hot' and got medium hot which is not bad, in our experience."

  • "Food appears to be glamorous, Ambiance is great, higene of the place is great, there is a good variety of dishes. Taste wise it does not seem to be authentic, Most of the dishes taste different then what I have eaten before, at home or outside. If I did not have their name, probably I cannot recognize a single one, except Gobhi/cauliflower (which was good)"

  • "Food is superb! Can't believe I just found out about this place a month ago. I'm telling my friends and community about it. Ambiance, food and service is excellent. We love it. Avacado jamuri is a favorite."

  • "Came to Sakoon with a group of 8 and had a great experience. Everyone liked their food, and the service was great. I had the butter chicken which was great."

  • "Sunday brunch was delicicious. A perfect place to eat before our ballet matinee. The buffet items were hot, replenished regularly and included my fave Butter Chicken. There were entrees I had not seen on an Indian Buffet before. There was also a stir fry chef preparing noodles to order. Just an overall fantastic meal. Wait staff checked regularly if everything was okay and cleared our empty plates quickly so we could return for more. We will be back!"

  • "The food was really great but sub-par service. I had made a reservation via openTable in the morning and also confirmed later in the evening before arriving, but they didn't seem to have us on the list. Also, the host didn't seem to care much or really find out if we had indeed made a reservation and she let some of the people without reservations before us until we objected and a senior guy showed up. Food was great, service was a little slow because maybe it was busy. Overall, alright experience."

  • "Sakoon is one of the restaurants in rotatation for the team lunch at work. The variety of food is always good and the ambienct is quite hip. Always very packed - I 've been there during weekday lunch hour. Highly recommended, never fail place."

  • "Had a dinner meeting with a local actor and chose Sakoon based on reviews I had read. The waiter first seated the 2 of us in a corner table very tight and uncomfortable, but the manager saw that I had ordered alot of dishes and promptly moved us to a table for 4 and away from a large party that was just seated! I'm glad he saw this and took action before I spoke up! Food was awesome and well presented! Loved the chicken tikki marsala, bbq shrimp, & the seabass! Try the mango smoothie for something different!"

  • "We recently had a business dinner and many of my colleagues are Indian. So we chose Sakoon for our dinner, given another Indian colleague was a big fan of it. Everything they said - nice decor, delicious food was accurate. It's basically good authentic Indian food, but instead of a bare bones setting a little nicer atmosphere. Versus other upscale decor Indian restaurants which unfortunately then somewhat de-Indianize the food to make it more Euro-like. Our large group (we were 11) was seated very comfortably at one large table. So another plus. Would definitely want to return again."

  • "I went on a weekend and the restaurant filled quickly right at noon. There were wonderful choices of appetizers, desserts, rice, and veggie and meat based curries, all delicious. They were also making meat filled burritos (not dosa). My only complaint was that the naan served at the table was cold and crisp and didn't fold over the curries well to eat by hand. I would return."

  • "The ambiance is classy, the servings are generous, the selection quite large, and the quality of food outstanding. Best Indian food in the area. Not too salty, a fault of many other Indian restaurants."

  • "I found Sakoon on Open Table and chose it based on the reviews. It was hard to see Sakoon's sign at night since it is not a light-up sign and the window appears dimly lit. We were seated right away per our OpenTable reservation. We liked the fiber optic lighting in the dining room --- looked like jelly fish. Thus, the ambience was great for romantic dinners. There were also large group tables in the middle of the dining room. Because we went out as a family with kids, the lighting was too dim and we couldn't see the menu items very well at first. We liked that there wasn't a kids' menu but the kids thought that the entrees were spicy. Overall, we enjoyed the food and atmosphere. (Warning for tree nut allergies: desserts contain tree nuts.)"

  • "I've dined at Sakoon several times, and I'm never disappointed with the food. However, this last visit there was loud, terrible muzak the entire evening, which grated."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Sakoon is elegant and the food and service are equal to the décor. This is not your mix and match lunch buffet Indian restaurant. This is take your date to a romantic dinner and eat an adventure."

  • "This was my first time at this restaurant. The pictures of the food on Yelp really gave me high expectations for the food presentation. However, I learned immediately that lunch was buffet only. Although I liked my dining experience, I wish I could have ordered from the menu instead of having the buffet. I guess I will have to go back and try dinner."

  • "We recently dined at Sakoon on the occasion of my mother-in-law's birthday. There were 8 of us in total, along with two kids. The service at the restaurant was fantastic, especially in accommodating the food allergies that one of the members of our party has. The appetizers were outstanding, and were not the usual fare you see at more traditional North Indian restaurants. The entrees were good (maybe not quite as good as the appetizers), but the portion sizes were quite good, and the food overall was quite good. I would definitely go back."
