A word from Roost
When you settle in, you come home to roost. A roost is a place that feels comfortable. It’s a place where we all have a little something in common. It’s a place that takes a community and builds it into a home. That’s the spirit of ROOST Restaurant located in the new, exciting and vibrant community of NOMA Square on Main Street in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Situated next to the Hyatt Regency Greenville, ROOST is a casual restaurant featuring the best fresh local bounty that the Piedmont has to offer. Our focus is on giving the community a place to eat local, organic, and seasonal food of the highest quality, cooked with care, and at an honest price. Roost will offer guests a one-of-a-kind dining experience including outdoor seating in NOMA Square, an open kitchen with ringside seating along the Kitchen Counter, an open-air bar area, and a Harvest Table where guests can work with the chef directly to build their own meals.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I wanted to love Roost but came away thinking it only so so. Nothing bad but nothing great either. Food ranged from over seasoned to down right bland. I will try again in the future because of the location not the food."

  • "The brunch buffet was delicious. It had a variety of breakfast and lunch options. It was fresh and clean."

  • "The Roost is a fantastic restaurant that serves many southern style dishes with a unique and modern twist. Aside from the delicious food, the service is among the best Greenville has to offer."

  • "I had the brisket and was very disappointed. where there was meat it was tuff. The fat was way to much and they should consider another quality cut. 12 hours cooked I don't think so. My wife had the Mussels and I think it was clams? Not tasty at all. they may have been 5-6 shells and the portions was small."

  • "Thought the dinner menu was limited and portions fairly small. Salad was just ok. Duck confit appetizer has been good each time we ordered. Company we with who were 1st timers not overly impressed. Management was very good to remove one item from bill. Enjoyed lunch there previously much better. Nice atmosphere and decent service. Was on the whole disappointed with the dinner. Not what I would call special."

  • "Enjoyed the food. Service was friendly and efficient. Music outside was quite loud, but all round fun place to be."

  • "The food was mediocre at best... Service was poor..."

  • "For a casual date night or dinner with friends night this is the perfect place. More causal than romantic, but classy! I have grown up in the State and even recently lived in Charleston; BEST SHRIMP & GRITS I'VE EVAAR HAD!!!"

  • "But for this particular Friday eve, the waitstaff was either/both overwhelmed/inexperienced. We dined at a tall table, indoors, in the bar -- on purpose -- to stay warm and still enjoy the live music at NOMA. We ordered drinks, crab appetizer and two Thai entrees - all very excellent. And all within sight/sound of the Friday Downtown Alive scene with live jazz. The service was slow and the young gent failed to introduce himself and missed several opportunities to check on us, order more drinks, and maybe offer a dessert menu. We will return -- it's a great space and good scene and nice food -- but I hope The Roost Management will consider this feedback regarding better trained wait staff."

  • "Roost has great outdoor seating. On Thursdays and Fridays there is often live music. The food is average, but the ambiance and drinks are good."

  • "I recently went to brunch at Roost and was very pleasantly surprised! The menu is fantastic and the buffet options are diverse and plentiful! The mimosa and bloody mary bar was also a great deal! Everything I tried was great and I highly recommend the smoked salmon and pork loin!"

  • "A gem for the Gem that is Greenville. Valet park at the Hyatt and walk into the Roost. How convenient is that. Just get your valet parking ticket validated by your server. They do corkage if you want to carry in your own special wine. Our server 169 Lisa was spot on. She went above and beyond on everything and Roost is lucky to have her services. 5 diners and 5 entrees selected and every single one was fantastic. Don't miss this special spot in the very special city of Greenville."

  • "We love the soil to table restaurants. Husk in Nashville is our favorite, but your food is almost as good! We were surprised to find such a gem in Greenville."

  • "The food, service, and ambiance were great. Went with a small group and had a great time. We will definitely be going back again and recommending this restaurant to others."

  • "We met friends for lunch, their first visit to Greenville. Our waitperson gave us plenty of time to decide since we were getting together for the first time in 6 months. everyone loved their lunch and the restaurant ambience. I had the soup and salad bar, it was wonderful. The cauliflower curry soup was Vegan and delicious. we were not hurried, nor did my lunch companions wait too long for their meals. It was a great reunion on a chilly rainy Friday. Roost was perfect!"

  • "We had drinks and appetizers. The drinks were good but the food is just bad. There isn't a good selection and its just not good."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Although I enjoyed most of our experience - there were six of us - I was disappointed in the dish I ordered. The beet salad with very good, but the mushroom raviolis were a bit strange. The raviolis were floating in a kind of broth with mushrooms in it, which I've never had before. I guess I prefer my raviolis in a different kind of sauce. However, most of the other people were pleased with what they had. I will try the restaurant again, but order something different."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the meatloaf and shrimp and grits - outstanding! They have a great assortment of appetizers, wine and beer and desserts. I would tell you, be careful how you plan your meal - the desserts are huge."

  • "Food is consistently very good. Liked the vegetarian options."

  • "Love the locally sourced menu, and everything we tried was delicious! Portions were pretty big too, so I had leftovers for lunch-- yum! Only bad thing, it was trivia night, so the bar was slammed and we had to wait forever for our cocktails."

  • "I was not impressed with my seating. They put us beside the bar and directly behind us was a station for refilling drinks and putting in orders. It was to be an intimate lunch for 2 with the entire other side of the restaurant empty (the quiet side). I get very frustrated when there are 2 people and they place us next to an obnoxious group of 15 women who have obviously been there for quite a while having fun. Think people, THINK! The mushroom ravioli was delicious and the salad bar was very nice. I would have the server tell people about the soup and salad before we have to ask "what is that?""

  • "I've been here about 6-7 times and although the service can be spotty, the food is always high quality. This time the service was top notch, I will say that. Overall, I consistently have a very positive experience here and will continue to go back."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Roost. The food was fresh - and completely delicious. The service was outstanding. The space is open, urban cool and completely comfy. Must recommend: the shrimp & grits (luscious) and the mussels & clams (crazy good). And my husband wants me to add the duck street tacos. Super stuff! We nearly licked the plate of the ganache for dessert. That it's farm-to-table makes it even better - locally grown ingredients are the way to go."

  • "My wife and I went to the Roost to celebrate our anniversity. The food was prompt and good. It is easy to havea conversation. The noise level is low."

  • "My wife and I went for Sunday brunch. The selection was decent, very Southern, and quite good. At dinner, a few days later, we ordered mushroom ravioli. Ravioli was house-made, good flavor, except for the piece of wood I found inside my ravioli. I guess they must smoke the mushrooms or something. No biggie, I just get the willies when I find something in my food that doesn't belong in my food."

  • "We were really impressed with the delicious food at Roost. Thanks for such a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "more money was invested in having a good PR manager than a good chef. duck tacos were dripping wet. Rare steak was medium rare. Risotto was bland like dishwater. Grouper was ok. desserts were 90% chocolate based, which is just too easy. on a positive note, the wine glassware was superb and the plates were really cool"

  • "My wife and I had a nice meal. I had the mushroom ravioli, she had the meat loaf. Both were above average. The meat loaf was tender and flavorful and the ravioli were cooked just right. The desserts were wonderful (baked Alaska and the chocolate tart). They were huge (I am not complaining, we were warned by the wait staff that they were "shareable")."

  • "The cobblestone chicken and duck tacos were to die for! I can't wait to return to try some of the other items!"

  • "My wife and I were looking for a new place in downtown Greenville for dining and this restaurant set itself apart. The food was excellent, our waitress was very friendly and helpful, the food was ready in a timely manner, and the atmosphere was great. Unlike some other local restaurants, the mood works for both a time with friends and a romantic dinner. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Everything was great. Me and my wife, also my teenage daughter will be back again. We each had something different on the menu and a appetizer and it was great. Everything tasted fresh. The adult drinks were great. The minute we came in the door, the host was friendly, and our waiter she was nice. Even though she worked on v-day she had a great personality. The manager I really liked, I notice he went and greeted every table and checked on each patron. That was very impressive. A++++++ in my book!!!"

  • "The Roost has a very inviting atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The food was very good and the idea that it is all local suppliers is wonderful. I will definitely return to the roost!"

  • "My wife and I thought we would splurge a little on Valentines Day but we wish we hadn't. Several items were not fresh. There was even canned corn used with lamb that had a lot of fat. And the grouper was very poor. It was edible but not very good. And it came with a $120 price tag. Sure wish we had not ordered the Valentines special."

  • "We had dined at Roost for lunch but this was our first dinner experience there and we were not disappointed. The food was fantastic. The local farm fresh ingredients make a world of difference in the taste and quality of the food. Presentation and service was exceptional and the price very reasonable compared to other down-town restaurants."

  • "Bacon fried rice was amazing. Country gravy was more like potato soup with no potatoes. Fudge and cheesecake top notcj."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "After reading numerous reviews about this new restaurant and its chef, as well as an appealing menu, I was very disappointed in the food, specifically the quality and seasoning. Taste just wasn't there. Did not merit a repeat visit. Neither me nor my companion was impressed."
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "My husband asked for celery salt on his Bloody Mary glass and got sugar. The meat selection on the Sunday brunch buffet consisted of bacon, chicken tenders, and chicken & dumplings. The chicken tenders were old and dry and we had to scrape the chicken and dumpling pan for small spoonfuls. The desserts and several other items were not labeled. The desserts all appeared to be cheesecake or some type of flourless cake, but all tasted pretty much the same. The coffee was lukewarm."

  • "First time there for dinner and it was excellent--a little pricey but very good. I even had an out of town guest with us and he raved about the Shrimp & Grits. This is a very nice place but a little pricey for an everyday place to go have dinner, but a definite go to place for a special occassion."

  • "We wanted to try fried chicken Monday. The fried chicken was over cooked, but tasty. The mashed potatoes were okay, I don't eat grits so I can't be objective. The greens, however were exceptional. Probably would not go for this again."
