Diner Reviews
  • "Cozy, friendly. Great food. Service was a bit slow, but the individual preparation was worth it."

  • "We were visiting Kansas City and stumbled upon Room 39, where we had a lovely dinner. Very impressive food (loved the goat cheese gnocchi and my dining partner's risotto), friendly service and reasonable prices."

  • "Terrific restaurant. Food was very good and creative. Service was exceptional. Our server, Anne, was superb. Our best meal in Kansas City to date."

  • "Solid, fresh, whole food. Loved the local farm sourcing and the ever-changing menu. Incredible rustic, simple food with a gourmet twist. Presentation was incredible."

  • "Room 39 serves one of the best breakfasts in Kansas City. But do not miss a chance to check out their dinner menu, local, fresh and different. Room 39 does both meals well. "

  • "Inventive dishes. Excellent reasonable wine by glass selection plus higher end overpriced choices recognized by the wine snobs. Food is reasonably priced. Service was informative behind the bar but not as helpful at the table but still very good. Some time gaps between service were too long."

  • "always a treat!!! Love this place - great food, atmosphere and service! "

  • "I made a reservation on the same day and got a late seating and had to wait a short time. My fault. The food and service more than make up for the wait. Probably the best filet I have had in this town. Cooked to perfection, medium rare!"

  • "Took my wife to dinner here for our anniversary. It wasn't our first time at Room 39. Great, friendly service. The staff helped us with the wine list and was very knowledgable of the menu. The food was outstanding and fun. We never once felt rushed. Like always, a very enjoyable experience at Room 39 in midtown. "

  • "We did the 4 course tasting with wine pairing. Everything was delicious and we definitely had enough food, I didn't even eat half of my pasta so I wouldn't get too full. The desserts were so tasty. Maybe someday we will make it back for their breakfast/brunch - I hear that's awesome too."

  • "As always, Room 39 never disapoints. I have frequented some very good 5 star restaurants, and Room 39 always surpasses expeections."

  • "We had excellent service and the food was tremendous. "

  • "The food is always really good here. I recommend going to brunch on Saturdays because they offer their Steak and Eggs Benedict. Quiche is always good too, it comes in a jumbo deep dish slice. Bloody Marys are tasty, too!"

  • "Server ensured that burgers can be cooked to order. Ordered medium rare but was served well-done... grey and mealy. Otherwise, i do not recommend this for folks who have one hour for lunch. You will not get out in timer. KC has too many other great spots."

  • "My wife and I met another couple for breakfast. The place was crowded, but we were seated pretty close to our reservation time. The food was all excellent, as were the choices. Good coffee also. We will definitely be back again both for breakfast and dinner."

  • "The food is spectacular, the service -the last couple of times I have been in- has been mediocre. Unfortunate that the unfriendly service interferes with the culinary experience, but it is worth every delicious bite!!"

  • "We dined at Room 39 to celebrate two birthdays over last weekend with 3 diners never having been to Room 39 and one having been a number of years since dining there. It was very inviting; we were able to take our time to enjoy the company and celebration. The menu was great with a number of dishes being inviting making it difficult to choose. Ultimately, we were all able to dine on something we normally wouldn't order or selected a dish that intrigued us. We selected Room 39 for a number of reasons - the ambience, something out of the norm and for a large part the utilization of local product. We would most certainly recommend Room 39 to others looking for something out of the norm. "

  • "Still my favorite KC restaurant - and considering the excellent options we are so fortunate to have here in the metro, that's really saying something!!"

  • "This is an excellent restaurant. I rank the food choices the highest, with oven eggs and the chicken salad sandwich at the top of my list. Service and ambience are also very good. Will definitely go back and would highly recommend! Make a reservation - it is quaint."

  • "Great service - aware of our needs but left us to enjoy our friends company."

  • "My companion had oatmeal and was happy. I enjoyed the Oven Eggs or Baked Eggs, with the truffle oil. I've not had anything like them before and they were delicious, accompanied by a fruit salad. I like the feel of the small restaurant and I like this part of the city."

  • "Food was fabulous from pate to lemon tart and all in between! Our server was polite, knowledgeable and around just enough but did not hover. Delightful evening."

  • "Hadn't been here in a while and not sure why. We did the 39 dollar tasting menu which was a good choice--four courses consisting of salad/soup, appetizer, main course, and dessert. Try the confit or foie gras and the pork chop and opt for the lemon dessert. It was all delicious and the service was impeccable."

  • "This place never fails to provide a terrific experience. Timely, great food, and the atmosphere is charming and simply lovely. This is my spot for lunch retreats with good friends. See you soon!"

  • "Every time I dine at Room 39 I leave asking myself, 'Why don't I come here more often?' This establishment deserves to be in the discussion for best KC restaurant as its product, ambience, diverse food/drink offerings, and location are elite. The dish that blew my mind--their Ahi Tuna plate is absolutely amazing. Two days later I'm still yearning for the taste of the porcini rubbed/seared tuna, mixed with sweet potato puree, roasted mushrooms, salsa verde, and butter braised radish. We also enjoyed the vegetarian crespelle and the mixed greens salad to start. We opted for beer and enjoyed Green Flash (from San Diego) and noted they had ample adult beverage options. Great date spot with plenty of after dinner bars in walking distance!"

  • "Set a reservation on Saturday morning for brunch. When we arrived, it was completely full, with people waiting outside. We waited about 15 minutes for our table. The restaurant was bustling, so it was a little loud, but the service was friendly and the food was delicious. We both had mimosas as well. I enjoyed the Brioche French Toast and quality bacon. Potatoes were perfectly cooked."

  • "Room 39 came highly recommended and we were not disappointed! My husband and I both went with the tasting menu (which was surprisingly affordable compared to other tasting menus we've ordered) and everything was perfect. It's a pretty small restaurant which I enjoyed because it really made us feel well cared for by our server...who would also be fantastic in a larger restaurant, I'm sure! I would highly recommend Room 39."

  • "My favorite restaurant in the KC area. Great menu with delicious and high quality food, all served up in a comfortable, low key atmosphere by a usually attentive and always interesting wait staff. I love the relaxed convivial lunch vibe and the changeover to a warm, lovely dinner setting."

  • "A friend of ours had been recommending Room 39 to us for a while and eventually got my husband and I a gift cert for a gift, so when we had a special occasion come up we tried it on a recent Fri night. Our service was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable without being pushy. We ordered the chicken liver appetizer. Delicious. I got the pork chops and my husband the tuna. He talked about it the next day. Both meals were light (which is saying something for a pork chop) and savory, fantastically done. The loaf of bread and olives they bring are a great touch. We both got cocktails and they were good. The atmosphere was quite and romantic. Overall, we had a very pleasant dinner and will add Room 39 to our "nice evening out" list."

  • "In general, I have totally enjoyed my dining experiences at Room 39. However, during a recent lunch with a colleague there was a lot left to be desired. I understand that they don't want to place a party of two at a four top, but we did have reservations and the only two top was in the center of the room so that one of us was facing a very bright window, and it was very uncomfortable. The quiche, which is usually still excellent at lunch time was over heated and tough and the noise volume in the room made conversation very difficult in that central location. I am hesitant to schedule any future lunch meetings at Room 39."

  • "We ate here on a Sat nite. We love this place & usually do the 4-course tasting menu. My companion had the kale salad, goat cheese gnocchi, steak and apple crisp dessert. Unexpectedly loved the kale salad-the vinaigrette made it. Everything was so good. I had the cauliflower soup, sweet potato ravioli, pork chop and almond bread pudding. Choc sorbet was such a treat and everything was wonderful. Our server was attentive but not intrusive and the wine list has some well-priced options. Decor is a little spartan which keeps it from feeling cozy. But it feels like some small neighborhood places i've eaten in Brooklyn or San Francisco. Focus is on the food and service and those are certainly worth the trip."

  • "My girlfriend and I ate at Room 39 (the 39th street location) for the first time on Valentine's Day and simply put it was one of the best meals I've ever had. We heard many good things about the restaurant and our high expectations were exceeded. The service was friendly and the timing was spot on. The different techniques used to prepare the food was evident and I caught myself having to slow down eating to make sure I savored every bite. The price was higher than what we are accustomed to paying, but the fine dining experience was more than worth it. We would both highly recommend Room 39. Hopefully, we will be returning to dine again sooner rather than later."

  • "Using seasonal ingredients from the region Room 39 always offer a small but selected combination of dishes that are at the same time original and flavorful. The tasting menu is the best way to enjoy the variety. A true Gem."
