A word from Romesco
In the search for alternative gastronomic latitudes, a new restaurant opened its doors at the Bonita Commercial Area in San Diego. Romesco Baja Med Bistro started operations at the beginning of March 2006.

An unusual experience when
transpassing the door. Either Mexico City or Madrid or both, everything we tried was excellent."

Really nice ambience! The food was
delicious and our waiter was very polite. We had a fantastic time."

Go and indulge in the meat and
cheese plate, the ahi tostado, salmon and filet migon carpaccio, beef cheek tacos, .... I could go on and on. Think outside the box and have a great experience."

Romesco's is such a gem to our
South Bay. We love just about everything about it and we appreciate how they are so family friendly with a simple menu for kiddos, but it's the parents that definitely benefit from all that is tasty here. Great wine list! Cocktails run on the sweet end for this diner, but otherwise, it's fabulous!"
Dined on 2/16/2014
The food was good but they didn't
have the Paella that I wanted. The spaghetti was a lil dry compared to other times we visited. The service was to slow at the beginning."

We been to Chula Vista since 2010
and never occurred to me that we have this kind of restaurant that I can always come back because of greatness of food. Recommended must go to this place!!! Awesome food..."

I don't know why it took us so
long to get to this restaurant. I had heard good things about it for several years but the drive held us back from going there. I'm glad we finally took the excursion to South County. We had several tapas and they were as good as anything we had in Spain with a Mexican twist on several. Certainly better than some local restaurants that claim to serve authentic tapas. They also offer several Mexican wines from the Valle de Guadalupe which are hard to find in San Diego even though the area is only a two hour drive south. The service was a little off since they weren't expecting the crowd they got for lunch but our plates came out promptly and our water was regularly refilled. We would definitely return."
Dined on 2/14/2014
We found the food to be amazing.
There was clearly a lot of care and love in the details. Fantastic! Although the server was pleasant I would not say that attentive. We went completely dry on our beverages (for at least 5 minutes) at one point and needed to ask for the server to come to our table for assistance. Overall, the dining was very good and I am sure that we will return. I would strongly recommend this restaurant just for the cuisine alone."

Based on the referral from a
foodie Tijuana, we made reservations and drove from an hour away to get this amazing restaurant! It was totally worth it and may have been the best food I've had in San Diego in like 25 years here. I was drawn to the Mediteranean Mexican food style and found it to meet my expectations and then some. Although you can't expect your food to come out at the same time, the operation is extremely well run, for as busy and small as this m restaurant is. However the service was four star and I cannot recommend it highly enough for an over-the-top, memorable, taste extravaganza!"

It took way too long for us to get
our salads (35 minutes) and the tables were way too close together"

Romesco is a fantastic spot for a
nice romantic dinner or Tapas. Picture a romantic dinner with your significant other with the ambiance is similar to New York or LA fine dining...The best part is the menu prices are totally reasonable!"
Dined on 1/31/2014
Even though we asked for our
previous waiter, he was hard to find hardly came to the table. We took our family and I felt bad my the service we recieved."

I have always enjoyed and
appreciated the attentive service of Romesco's staff. They are friendly, helpful, polite, and always willing to make the event a pleasant memory. The food choices will treat a wide array of palates and styles from the modern bistro to the traditional Mediterranean, i.e. Spanish dishes. We were greeted promptly at the door with the attention given to good friends. Our table was ready and seated immediately. There was time to relax and settle in before being asked for our drink order. The timing was perfect allowing enough time to begin the night's celebration with our friends and family. We were never rushed and the drinks, appetizers, and meal were timed perfect. Never too rushed, and never to long of a wait."

We had a time, waiter was very
attentive. Food was excellent, drinks were good. It was a little loud but reasonable. Great for large groups."

First time going to dine at
Romesco's and I will defiantly be returning. Opentable reservation was a great way to go. Walked in and was seated promptly - service was prompt and very friendly. Defiantly a great place for two or a family to enjoy. Food was really good."
Dined on 1/10/2014
So, I've been to Romesco's twice
now. Both times the food was stellar!! Amazing combinations of flavors and textures. However, it was nearly undone by the incredibly slow and inattentive service. C'mon guys... with such a great menu you should be able to have staff that is up to par with the food. Importantly, the servers were slow in bringing us our WINE, which is a high-profit item that I would think you'd desire that I have as much as I can in order to increase sales. That said, try the abalone with habanero sauce and the shrimp and cheese tacos. DIVINE!!"
Dined on 1/7/2014
This was our 3rd time at Romesco's
and we finally had good service! The food was excellent as always, which is the reason for return visits. We specifically went on a Friday evening because their website indicated $7 Martini's after 8pm and 80's live music. Neither was correct. According to the sign out front (which we did not read until we left), the Martini's were $5 after 8pm at the 2 bars. According to our waiter, only the patio bar offered the happy hour Martini prices. So, now we know to go straight to the patio and order our tapa's there."

Restaurant is in a strip mall, but
inside is a very different story. Pretty small and intimate inside, not many tables, but service is top notch and all of our requests were addressed immediately and with a smile. Food is delicious, and the selection of tapas makes the opportunity to try a myriad of things well within reach. The tapas bar, adjoining the restaurant, was filled to capacity for the entirety of our 3 hour+ evening, and there were no tables unoccupied. Live music too! Overall a great way to celebrate my wife's birthday with some friends (group of 5). Will return soon."

In-town from coastal NC I found
Romesco via Opentable. The mex-med fusion immediately caught my interest, so made a reserv. Carla welcomed me the moment I entered the door, located my table and presented Gustavo to assist with entree selections. Viewing the myriad choices on the menu, I decided to go with his recommendation of the short ribs. In a word, they were awesome! Very flavorful and so tender they easily cut with a fork. Paired with a LA Cetto 2009 Nebbiolo from the Guadalupe Valley made for a magical combo (½ price wine Wed made the pairing even sweeter) Having a great meal accompanied by friendly conversation with the couple next to me and friendly service by my hosts made for a very memorable, sociable dining experience."

We feel very fortunate to have
this restaurant so close to us. We frequent it often. The food has never disappointed us, nor the service. Tries their new TJ street food lunch and can honestly say this is not the street food you are thinking, everything was beautifully served and absolutely delish."
Dined on 12/3/2013
Service here is outstanding the
waiters have been here a long time, they know the people go out of their way to say hello!! Food is very good, especially the Tapas!! This is the best resturant in the area!"
Dined on 11/9/2013
Great spot food was excellent but
took a while to prepare. Service was very friendly. Overall great spot definitely coming here again!"
Dined on 11/3/2013
Food was greasy, they can hold
back on the olive oil for the carpaccio and octopus service was disorganized and food came before the bottle of wine the noise level is high and difficult to carry on a conversation"
Dined on 10/19/2013
Tried the Grandma's Tacos and they
were terrific, but then I had the Fig Risotto. Brilliant! Would have given five stars down the line, but service by busser's was lacking. Prices dictate that silverware should be changed between courses. Forks or knives used for appetizers should be changed for salad course and again for entree. Food and ambiance are well above average and I've already told several friends to give it a try."

I had high hopes for this offshoot
of Mision 19...but it fell so short. The food was tasteless, undercooked, cold, drowned in wrong flavors...ugh"
Dined on 9/30/2013
the service was exellent the food
amazing and portions were just right. I could sit there all night and enjoy all the tapas and not feel like we have to rush through a meal. the staff is very friendly and they timed the food great. you didnt end up with all the food you ordered a, at once."
Dined on 9/22/2013
The food was excellent but it took
2 hours to arrive. They ran out of our first choice but maybe that was because the restaurant was busy. It was San Diego Restaurant week. We were not given a choice of mashed potatoes or baked potatoes. French fries were brought on the plate."
Dined on 9/18/2013
Seating was prompt, service was
prompt and the food was delicious. However, I wanted the paella for dinner and they ran out and I was very disappointed. Otherwise, it's a good place and I would recommend for anyone to try. Vast menu selection wouldn't mind trying all the dishes and tapas; still very disappointed about the paella."
Dined on 9/16/2013
Always Great. Check out all the
specials: Wed- Pasta and 2 for one wine, Tapas Tuesday, and more. Great food and has become one of our regular dining places. Love the pastas and Tapas. Ambience is spectacular. This place has a great feel to it. Good atmosphere. Great for family, friends, and close ones."

Who would have thought that Bonita
offered such a good restaurant?!? A pleasant surprise. Would most definitely go again."
Dined on 9/8/2013
Romescos felt very much like a
high quality restaurant in Spain or elsewhere in Europe! Although the restaurant was busy service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and very helpful in assisting us decide on selecting appetizers and main entree. The "Ahi Tuna" appetizer was excellent! The "Fideo Paella" brought back memories of our stay in Spain. My husband and I will definitely return to Romescos!"

We first ate here about a month
ago and though it was quite a ways to drive bucking traffic all the way, we were very impressed with both the food and the service of our waiter, Gustavo. This second visit was, sadly, not as great. I requested a quiet table and instead was seated right next to the bussing station and kitchen entrance. Siverware clattered and banged and so did dishes throughout our entire meal. Perhaps the food items we chose this time were not as flavorful as last visit. At any rate, service here seems to very top notch but thoughtfulness of dining requests vs placement and food quality was a bit less rewarding. Considering that this is a rather pricey venue, we were let down this second time."
Dined on 8/18/2013
The food was great and server
Gustavo was fantastic, very attentive. He made a couple recommendations for dinner and was spot on. I've driven by this place for years, found it on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. I highly recommend you do the same, you won't be disappointed."
Dined on 8/10/2013
Some of the best food in San Diego
and the drinks are awesome. This place never disappoints."

Celebrated my wifes birthday with
10 friends, the waiter Miguel took exelent care of us, nothing was missing on the table. Congratulations."

So happy we finally tried Romesco.
The chef Javier Plascencia is one of Tijuana's finest, and this was a great opportunity to try his food without crossing the border. Delicious tapas and entrees. Loved the spiced pumpkin soup, fish in garlic sauce, carne asada, and delicious "border churro plate" (with dulce de leche dip, fantastic vanilla ice cream, an ok little cup of hot choclate, and the best churros ever). Look forward to coming again. Fantastic service too. You do not feel like you are in a strip mall - you are transported to a bistro in France or a hot restaurant in one of Mexico's lively resort cities like Puerto Vallarta."
Dined on 6/23/2013
One of my favorite places, and we
went there for Father's day. Unfortunately, great food and service don't translate well when the place is being over-run with small children crying, screaming, and running all around. Go at a quieter time and you'll enjoy this gem of a restaurant."
Dined on 6/17/2013
Wonderful experience at our first
visit...and we will return! The server was so pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu; the restaurant manager was a delight, and the food was unique and delicious! Hidden away in a strip mall in Bonita, this place is worth the drive!"
Dined on 6/2/2013
Don't even bother with the main
course menu. Stick with the Tapa's menu - they have so many to choose from that you will be more than satisfied. I just wish they would get cherry flavored vodka to offer cherry vodka lemonades. Perfect drink during the summer and would be refreshing with the Tapas."
Dined on 6/1/2013
Diners who have heard about the
Plascencia family's many notable restaurants in Tijuana, Baja California, but are reluctant to deal with long waits at the border on the return to the US might enjoy Romanesco in San Diego. The restaurant has a similar feel and look to Caesar's (complete with table side preparation of Caesar Salad) but with a much more expansive menu. The wine list includes a small number of selections from the nearby Valle de Guadalupe, a rare find north of the border. Small plates of grilled octopus, abalone and seafood stuffed red peppers were notable."
