Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great dinner and my friend is allergic to Garlic and they worked around it beautifully."

  • "Classic Italian food. They strive to keep is fresh. The fish of the day is usually really good. I have been here many times and never a bad meal."

  • "I chose Don Gioivanni for a group dinner because the menu is extensive and varied. We sampled a wide variety of dishes - all good - and several ordered the very interesting weekend Prix Fixe offering. The down side is that the interior is very open and was hopping on Saturday night, so we couldn't converse even with the people directly across the table from us."

  • "I had dinner at your restaurant last week for the 1st time and enjoyed it. i came back on March 17th at 6:30pm with my brother, sister in law and boyfriend and we all enjoyed it very much. Our waitress was excellent; great personality and very attentive. We will back!"

  • "The servers were patient and personable. I like when servers give you time to make a decision, without rushing you. It was a very laid back, comfortable environment. The servers were attentive, without hovering. The food was brought very quickly and we were allowed to have time to chat before paying the bill. The food was delicious - I love that they brought us bread with the delicious garlic and olive oil dip, so we had something to eat while deciding on our meal. The server brought the dishes and immediately offered us parmesan for our pasta. We never had to ask for anything. Cloth napkins, professional yet personable environment. A pleasant and classy lunch experience."

  • "This was my first dinner there, and I met up with three friends there. I loved the angel hair pasta pomodoro. One of my friends had, and really enjoyed, the chicken with cheese, mashed potatoes, and artichoke hearts--sorry I can't remember the correct name. It looked amazing, and briefly made me have second thoughts about my order, till I tasted mine and loved it. Another friend had a really good steak. And we had one more person eating pasta, can't remember the name, but a creamy sauce that he declared amazing. We ordered sweets after the main course--Crème brûlée and orange sorbet--and these were great too. And as if delicious food were not enough, the staff took good care of us, and the restaurant is beautiful."

  • "Server suggested plates A and B. I choose dish B but the server brought Dish A."

  • "Love this restaurant! I always order pasta the way I want it and the chefs do exactly that. Pasta Carbonara with extra garlic, easy on the cream, touch of wine. La-dee-da."

  • "much too loud; noise level made it so we couldn't hear each other at the table (only 4 of us). food OK, but not outstanding, nothing I would drive a distance for. I had a dish that had "creamy garlic sauce" that was way to rich and creamy for me. Expected cream but I think the cook overdid it."

  • "We took my father here Sunday evening and it was wonderful. He and my husband had the roasted lamb shanks, one of the specials, and they both enjoyed the dish. Service was attentive and it was not too busy so we could hear each other across the round table. We've been here many times. Another win for Don Giovanni's!"

  • "Consistently great. Love the veal saltimbocca. Even the veggies are yummy. Tortellini Michaelangelo is another standout. Service super. Will always go back when back home in Mtn View."

  • "We hadn't been to this restaurant in a long time so it was great to know when we popped in for a birthday dinner, it was the same great food, same great service, just a good way to remember that this restaurant is authentic in their core beliefs, serve great food, have great service, everyone was friendly and helpful. Mama Mia, we will be back!"

  • "The location is good, but parking is a bit difficult if you don't know the area. The restaurant is spacious and can accommodate several tables of 8+, so it's a good location for company get togethers, which is what we were there for. There is enough variety in the food for different tastes and the prices are very reasonable for lunch. I have not been there for dinner. The quality of the food is good. It's very normal Italian fare, so if that's what you're looking for, it's a good spot. They were nice about our party being just a little over half of what we originally booked for, so kudos to the staff."

  • "The lighting and setting there is beautiful and warm. Food was great! We've been there many times and the quality of the food has always been consistent. Had the special lobster ravioli and crab Louie. They made a special butter penne for my son who has food allergies. Ended the evening with tiramisu. We had a window seat to enjoy the trees in downtown Mtn View all lit up with holiday lights. It was a great way to start the new year."

  • "here is the story: it was a valentine day. my girlfriend and I just dropped by to Ristorante Don Giovanni. of course it was fully packed and we were told - I am sorry, there is no table available now - you need to wait about an hour or so... :( and we were about to leave. at this moment John (the owner) appeared. he is alway around, usually greeting his guests. he said - I hate to loose you. let me try to find a table for you... and he did... and despite of the fact that restaurant was absolutely packed servants were doing great job and we have had great dinner. so... does this story explains the title of it?"

  • "We had a reservation & were seated immediately. The waitress came right away & alerted us to the fact that they were overwhelmed & our food would NOT be served in a timely fashion. Our wine arrived. After quite awhile I asked for some bread, she was embarrassed to say they had run out of bread. Not too long after, the appetizers arrived (carpaccio and the "Greek" salad), along with some warm bread. It was still quite some time until our entrees arrived. My husband ordered mussels that were quite small, which he considers more succulent. I had the pesto. The staff were pleasant, the food was fine, & we will probably go back, just not on Christmas Day!! BTW, they said they had been this busy last Christmas, one would think they would learn!"

  • "This a fine spot for unpretentious Italian family cuisine. A welcome respite from cupcake stores and burger joints. Attentive Staff, and a spot to keep in mind for large events, as they have a large, separate banquet room."

  • "We were a group of four looking for a place to eat Christmas evening. Only one of us lives in the area and she had been there before and enjoyed it. There were three tables that we knew had come after us and yet they were served, ate, paid and left before our dinner arrived. After a 60 minute wait, the food arrived. The special was filet mignon and 2 of us ordered it med. rare. It had to be returned twice, once it was brown & the other time it was cold and purple. I ordered ricotta ravioli and asked for Marinara sauce instead of Italian meat sauce since I am a vegetarian and he said they don't do substitutions but I was lucky because they were out of meat sauce. They gave us free dessert but it was too little too late."

  • "Love the Chicken Parm, and lots of interresting dishes available."

  • "The appetizer plate for two was shared by 4 of us. The calamari was probably the best part of that. Two of us had the eggplant parmesan which was crispy on the outside and covered with a nice layer of cheese. The meat sauce on the ravioli was nice. The shrimp were a good size and tasty. The best part was the dessert. The lava cake was very light and perfectly baked. The cannoli were fresh and crunchy with a nicely sweetened cheese filling. The spumoni seemed to be just pistachio ice cream, but it was good pistachio ice cream. At $135 including tax and tip, it seemed a bit pricey for what we had."

  • "The appetizer plate was good but food was average and everyone in our party thought it was on the salty side."

  • "Had a good experience. The food was very good, the service friendly and attentive and the atmosphere pleasant. They were very willing to accommodate our four-year-old's dinner request. We were there at 5:30 on a Saturday so it was not crowded. Definitely would go back."

  • "I booked a reservation for 10 for lunch this past week for a work-related celebration. Called the morning of to confirm and add one more person to the booking and they were friendly about it. When we arrived our table was ready and they managed the fact that a few people arrived late without a problem. The menu is nice and large, and the specials were good as well. I had a manicotti with ricotta and a tomato cream sauce that was fantastic (notable since it was a special, and in my experience specials often aren't as good as regular menu items). Many others at the table commented that their food was great as well, and then some of us had the exceptional sea salt and caramel gelato for dessert. Wonderful time!!"
