Diner Reviews
  • "Wonderful seafood selection with floor to ceiling windows looking over a city park. Great advice and service from our server. I'd love to come here again when in Portland. The room was full, yet quiet even with several children eating an early dinner with their parents."

  • "Being right down town, the Valet parking was a great convenience, and well worth $7 plus tip. The menu offered great variety, and included a 3 course dinner selection (although we did not opt for that). My wife had the grilled Swordfish over Parsnip Puree with bacon & arugula which she thoroughly enjoyed, I opted for the Chiopino, which was flat out delicious. The broth was very rich with just a hint of spiciness and the shellfish was not overdone. I requested an additional piece of Bruscetta to soak up the last of the broth. Our server was professional, knowledgeable and very helpful. Prices are on the high side - this wouldn't be a 'once a month' destination; but will remain on our short list for birthdays, anniversary's, etc."

  • "Had an excellent seafood dinner and highly recommend starting out with the selection from the oyster bar. Another must-have is their pomme-frittes topped with crab (worth the trip alone just for this taste of heaven)."

  • "We have been to the other 2 Ringside restaurants but this was our first visit to the Fish House. We started with a drink during Happy Hour in the bar. Everyone was pleasant and the service was prompt. We had a reservation but arrived early. They did come to seat us in the dining room. I wouldn't say the ambiance was anything special but the service was outstanding. Two of us had the swordfish - very tender. My husband had the prime rib and it was cooked to his liking and a generous portion."

  • "Beautiful setting overlooking new-ish 'Director's Park'. Little did we know that this would be one of the warmest evenings of the summer so far and the sun got a little too warm by our window table towards the end of dinner. Had we known about the lovely view from the back room on the north side of the building, we would have chosen a table there. Next time...Yes, we will be back. The evening was delightful due to our wait person, Adam, being so attentive. The food was as we expected - delicious. I had Quinault Salmon and my husband had the New York steak, both prepared perfectly. Loved the nice touch of the hand-written note on the table. Thank you for a memorable evening to celebrate our 32nd!"

  • "Not thrilled with our server. Not overly friendly. We were celebrating my Birthday and our anniversary. For desert we did not have any choice in what we were served, granted it was on the house, but I have an allergy to nuts. The desert served had nuts. Overall it was an ok experience."

  • "The best part about dining at Ringside in the service. Their staff is on point! We did the early dining 3-course meal one price; came soup/salad, meal (husband had prime-rib and I had the fish) and (the best) crème brulee. We usually go to the RingSide on Burnside, but will definitely return to the Ringside Fish House."

  • "Exceptional seafood, beautifully sourced and prepared. Tables are nicely spaced. Staff are well-trained and attentive."

  • "We were offered as a special welcome the truffle fries. We usually do not eat such foods but this was amazing and we pleaded with our lovely waitress to take the plate away before we wiped it out. Our meal was simple after that with the Ahi Poke and salads all of which were delicious. The Gruner Veltliner was one of the best I've had."

  • "As expected I had an amazing dinner here at RingSide Fish House - Fox Tower. This place continues to exceed my expectation. The price is not so bad at all."

  • "My wife and I had a great time at the Ringside Fish House. I liked the Ringside Fish House because you could order some really nice seared scallops while still enjoy the same steaks from the original Ringside steakhouse. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a nice booth for our anniversary. We would definitely come back again."

  • "I'm gluten free & dairy free so it was a challenge to eat here as every sauce they make has soy in it which has gluten in it unless you buy gluten free soy which they don't! I chose this fish house thinking it would be easy to eat GF. It's not unless you want plain grilled flavorless fish. Just one tiny little change of switching the soy they use would make all the difference in the world! Hint, hint! But our waiter was absolutely super on top of it and I was thankful for his patience. This is an expensive restaurant without ambiance but the couple next to me raved about the Cedar planked salmon which they order at every place they see it in the menu & this was hands down the best they ever had."

  • "Our first visit to rRingside Fish House after many to the west sde Steakhose. Selection of seafood choices, preparation and presentation excellent , staff and service superb from valet parking, to greeter, to server. If any downside was simply shortage of a second bottle of same wine, but our server went beyond the norm in helping in selection of an alternative. Definitely on the "return to" list! especially for any special occasion ."

  • "My family treated my husband to dinner on Father's Day. He ordered the steak and salmon (42.00) entrée. The items were tasty and well cooked, but portions very small. The menu listed that it came with polenta as well, but it was merely an extremely small garnish, not a side dish. My husband is not a large person, (165 lbs), and stated unless he had also not consumed two rolls, he would have left the table hungry. Others in my party ordered from the prix fixed menu and the portions were much more satisfying."

  • "The menu was quite varied, had a little something for everyone. All dishes were plated beautifully and tasted as well as they looked. My husband and son-in-law enjoyed the mussels appetizer, and we all loved the onion rings."

  • "We celebrated an anniversary at the Ringside Fish House before heading to a play. We both had the Pre-Theater special. The lobster soup was so good that we wanted to lick the bowl! The 4 entrees gave a nice variety of choice, and the dessert was yummy. The value for the price was outstanding. We also have some dietary restrictions, and the RFH was able to easily accommodate our needs. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "The frites with truffle and crab in Hollandaise is superb - rich and finger-licking good. This is a must have, but, it is rich! As I wasn't too hungry, I had the shrimp salad - butter lettuce, fennel, dill and little shrimp. My problem was the shrimp tasted like it had been frozen previously and was still too cold. As these were the only two things I had, my food rating was "5" for the crab frites and "2" for the shrimp salad, thereby resulting in a "3." Other diners food looked really good, just to confuse the issue. Can't say enough about friendly and knowledgeable staff in all the Oregon restaurants I went to on this trip. The wine recommendation was perfect for what I had and were even willing to laugh at my jokes."

  • "We decided to dine downtown instead of in the trendy SE areas. With great experiences at the original Ringside Steakhouse, we chose their Fishhouse in the Fox Tower. We were not disappointed. Same impeccable service and delicious food. For a weekend the restaurant was active but not disturbingly noisy. A very pleasant way to spend our 41st wedding anniversary. Cheers!"

  • "My husband and I visited the Steak house side a few months ago, and decided we had to try the fish side this time around. The service was Amazing, they had a special dessert for us because it was our anniversary, and a card thanking us for celebrating with them. The only part that was a bummer was that we got the best seat because it was right next to the window, but the sun was blaring in even through the blinds and it was very hot. But the food was amazing, service even better, I loved it!"

  • "Ringside fish house always pleases. The staff is courteous and friendly. The wait-staff is very educated on all parts of the small but varied menu. The food is balanced and delicious and delicately seasoned; not drowned in sauces. Steaks are cooked to perfection. The lobster add-on had terrific flavor but a little tough (only complaint). The wine menu is impressive. "

  • "We had the 3-course meal, and it was excellent. Our server was very attentive and encouraged us to try different wines. The portion sizes do not overwhelm a person."

  • "While we had a very nice evening and service superb, we were a little unsatisfied with the final bill. We were charged a cake cutting fee of $8.00 and $2.00/plate. It was a special cake from a specialty bakery for a special graduate. Our server said our meal (pre-theater) came with dessert and he would also bring one for the graduate. We were then charged $2.75 for a small scoop of vanilla bean ice cream for the graduate. We left a $40 tip so felt we should have been offered the choice to take home 3 desserts or not been charged for the ice cream. A minor annoyance to an otherwise delightful evening!"

  • "I had an excellent dinner courtesy of the server, Ed. It was a very genteel experience, complete with oysters, a cocktail, and a nice steak. The service was among the best I've had. The potatoes that came default with the steak weren't seasoned optimally but that is the sort of thing that can be addressed with more attention in the kitchen. A far easier fix than finding cogent, cosmopolitan wait staff. Well done."

  • "As often is the case, this restaurant gets high ratings for its downtown location and promotion to unsuspecting tourists like me. Food and service is good, but not noteworthy. Our server was nice, but new to the job and unable to answer questions. The stand out was the wine steward who was both knowledgeable and personable. Large wine list as advertised and expensive too. Overall, a good experience, but not 4+ stars in my book. In Portland, there are far better options. "

  • "The 3-course menu was a good value but, the entree should have been the "star of the show". My favorite course was the lobster bisque. Outstanding. My "surf and turf" was beef medallions with 3 prawns. The beef was cooked properly to med-rare, but the steak was tough. The potatoes were room temp (wrong potatoes plated, btw) and over all a disappointing plate. My dining companions ordered the prime rib, (nice) and the filet (probably the best meat). Both came out cooked as ordered but over all the dinner did not live up to my memories of dinners at the original spot on Burnside. Dining room empty when we arrived, our requested special table had a great view of the kitchen. Too many great PDX places to visit. Nothing outstanding."

  • "Excellent seafood options, attractive ambience - and a pre-theater three-course menu that's a good value. My king salmon recently was among the best I've had."

  • "We dined with friends last night at Ringside and were treated royally. Our booth was quiet (as requested) and each dish was absolute perfection! Each of us selected a fish dish; everyone was delighted. I'm still salivating just remembering how delicate my entree was. And it was gratifying to share this special evening of celebration with two friends on their "maiden voyage" to Ringside. "

  • "I had the Wild Mushroom Salmon and my wife had the Halibut. Both were fantastic and were very filling. Extensive wine list gave us many options to choose from and our waiter was very helpful with his suggestions of both food and wine. Finished off with Creme Bule' which was perfect."

  • "First book your reservation on open table. Then show up at the door and hand off your car to the valet. Then walk into this iconic Portland restaurant get seated on time . And then pick from a wonderful selection of daily fresh Fish seafood and if course the Ringsides most notable dish steaks. ( try their Northwest Portland Steakhouse) now let the extremely capable wait staff do their job. The management has hand picked the very best wait staff in this city hands down, the Ringside is a pillar of excellence . "

  • "They offer a great 3 course meal before 6:00 pm. Ideal if you are going to see a show or movie. Food was very good and service even better. Also had some very rare special wine offerings by glass. The normal wine selection is quite good and waiters are very knowledgable. We've eaten in both the dining room and at the bar. Same menu. Bar is a bit less formal as expected. Overall one of the best values in Portland. Highly recommended."

  • "Service was phenomenal. Knowledgable about the menu and wine. Great wine selection by the pour and bottle. Great dishes...you could tell that the if the kitchen was a little more on top of it--and our sole and steak wasn't overcooked (slightly)...it would have been a fabulous dinner. We'll go again...since it was a Sat night...and could imagine the kitchen getting a little busy"

  • "Granted, it was Mother's Day, and everyone was on their best behavior! Nevertheless, service was outstanding and, as usual, the seafood was impeccable. Pan-sauteed scallops served over a "salsa" of corn, fava beans, pancetta, and strips of jalapeño pepper was wonderful! The crunch and sweetness of corn alternating with the al dente bite of lava beans along with the saltiness of pancetta. And there was just enough added heat from the jalapeños to spice up the whole dish. All of this complemented the scallops which were perfectly sautéed."
