A word from Rhubarb
Rhubarb, at the heart of Asheville on Pack Square, is a comfortable place for friends, families and strangers to simply lean in and enjoy the company-a place where food and drink is at its uncomplicated best. Chef John Fleer, a three time James Beard nominee for Best Chef Southeast has created a menu inspired by seasonal, local ingredients and pays homage to the bounty of regional and American cooking. A wood-fired oven and grill complement the rustic creations. Wine selections are entirely ecological and sustainable. The bar pays tribute to the early 20th century cocktail culture.

Sunday Supper, a three-course meal served at the Rhubarb family tables, is served each Sunday at 6:30. The Sunday Supper menu will be different from the regular restaurant menu and will reflect the bounty of the weekend markets presented family style. A local guest farmer will host our weekly convivial community tables. For Sunday Supper Reservations please call at 828-785-1503.

  • Sunday Supper
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014

Overall, our food was delicious. The Sunday supper is a great value and the food was rustic family style. The portions were more than enough, we had a little bit leftover. We particularly enjoyed the roasted carrots with buttermilk butter; the meatloaf with parsnip gravy; and the roasted Japanese sweet potatoes. Our server, Laura, was excellent. She is a real asset to the restaurant. Chef Capps making an extra dessert for my husband's birthday was a nice touch and it was terrific! We liked that the desserts were not overly sweet; the cranberry orange coulis on the pumpkin roulade was perfectly tart. Minor quibbles: the corn fritters fell apart as we tried to eat them; there was just a touch too much mustard on the Brussels sprouts; and two items were misidentified when brought to the table. Hazelnuts were on the salad; not walnuts as the server stated. And the buttermilk butter was described as hummus by the server that brought it out (not Laura).

We live on the NC coast and travel to Asheville several times a year not only for the mountain experience but also for dining adventures. We have eaten at Rhubarbs twice and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. All the food was top notch, seasonal and locally sourced. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and efficient!

My partner and I had dinner at Rhubarb for the first time over the weekend. The restaurant has certainly become a hot spot downtown for dinner on the weekend as it is necessary to book a reservation well ahead. Instead of ordering an entrée we decided to try several small plates to sample the style of cooking at the restaurant. This turned out to be an excellent decision as all of the food we ordered, save for one dish, were extremely impressive. We started with the lobster corndogs, which are a must try, very inventive appetizer. The lamb ribs, oysters Benton, and vegetable focaccia I highly recommend. The pork meatball dish though not bad, was very much on the bland side in comparison to the other selections. Service was attentive enough. I definitely plan on returning and would highly recommend this restaurant.

Delightful place, creative food, well trained staff. Whiskey drinks are TOO small, almost insulting. As a guest in someone's home, you would NEVER serve such a rude "pour". Charge more and make a presentation in the glass. We are two rather large men. We were seated at a very small table set for two. Later parties of two were seated at 4-top tables. Would have preferred a larger table. We will return. Read about the place in Garden & Gun. Drove down from CT, on our way to Atlanta. Overall a good evening. We were in/out in under an hour! Too fast? Perhaps.

My attentive waitress made me a special pot of European strength coffee to accompany our Sunday brunch, so plaudits to her. The Bloody Mary was too heavy on the Worcestershire, though, even though I had asked for temperate dosage. The brunch was excellent, nevertheless, with eggs cooked to perfection. My partner likes hers well done, while I like mine runny ... Both were done to our taste, and the slab of honey topped cornbread which we shared as a starter was light and satisfying.

With the rave reviews from magazines, food blogs, and friends, my boyfriend and I had to make a stop here when we came to Asheville. We went on a Sunday night, and it wasn't hard to get a table. Our waiter was extremely friendly. We got the lamb ribs as appetizers, and it was delicious. The portion was pretty small, but it was delicious and got us primed for the entree course. I got the trout and the boyfriend got the osso buco. They were both good. Overall, I would say that we had a pleasant experience at Rhubarb. The price was quite steep (our bill came out to $70) but we enjoyed the food. Was it worth it? It's up for debate.

My husband and I went here for brunch and were very happy we chose this restaurant. The pickled plate was unique and delicious. The atmosphere was warm, friendly, and upscale. The waitress was always there to fill our coffee and water. My husband ordered the mushroom omelet and I ordered scrambled eggs with sausage and a hash cake. The hash cake was by far the best part. I don't have any complaints about brunch, other than that the eggs were a bit over cooked and under seasoned. I really want to go back and try Rhubarb for dinner as their menu looks amazing!

The service was outstanding. The waiter knew the menu and made suggestions. Perhaps my expectations, were too high. The food was average to good. However, it was not one of the top meals I have had. The turnip greens were very good. The cheeses on the cheese plate was served cold. The seats are very close together and, therefore, it is a vibrant scene.

One of the best in all of Asheville. The farm to table is an often overplayed term, but not here. It truly is the freshest of what's available. The duck is phenomenal, the sharing salad enough for 4. Who can turn down a lobster corn dog with "comeback" sauce?! And the deserts are just superb... Crispy bar is delicious and the seasonal apple dish is simply incredible. Put it on your list of must eats in Asheville, even worth a drive for the night for dinner.

Very nice interior & ambiance. Great service. I was disappointed with the food. We ordered the lobster corn dogs, which were fun - but cold inside. Next ordered the gnudi. Gnudi itself was interesting, but the mixture it was sauteed in - I did not care for the flavor. My husband ordered the pork osso buco, which was very good, pork-tender and delicious; grits - the usual, nothing special; but the okra and kale were very good.

We read about a fairly new restaurant in Asheville called Rhubarb from an article in Southern Living. We decided to give it a try and weren't disappointed. A nice, eclectic menu (try the popcorn for a pre-lunch snack) with an emphasis on local produce, cheeses, meats and fish. Portions were just right and service was attentive but our waiter missed out on selling me another glass of wine due to the fact that he was also trying to serve a twelve-top, so I understood. Anyway, give it a try. It's worth it.

Rhubarb has great curb appeal. Parking is a bit of challenge as there is no dedicated space for customers and street parking is tricky. John Fleer's reputation was what drew us to Rhubarb. Interesting menu features local farms. Brunch menu is not extensive, but satisfying. Seared butternut squash over grits and sweet potato puree was served to perfection with the exception of the egg on top, which should have been poached but was hard fried. Biscuits need a make-over as they were hard, not flaky. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but we had to ask for sweetener, salt and pepper, and drink refills. Perhaps they were working shortstaffed? There's enough to like about Rhubarb to give it another try, perhaps at a different time of day.

My wife and I dined here for the first time this week during a visit to Asheville. We started with the shared salad. Mixed greens over a roasted buttercup squash with goat cheese and tiny cubes of baked apple. Fantastic! After that, not so good. I had the Ossa Buco. It was dry and tough and totally uneatable. Definitely not slow cooked. Mt wife had the Rockfish. This was very good, but somewhat small. I had my entre replaced with the whole baked trout. This was well cooked, but rather bland. The unfortunate part was that I just had to sit there while my replacement entre was made. My wife ate on her own. Though this is a chef "owned" restaurant, there is a real lack of kitchen management here. Huge disappointment. We will not be back.

My expectations were high because of previous experience at Blackberry Farm. I asked for quiet table as we were meeting old friends for lunch and a visit. Acoustics were bad - very difficult to have a conversation that could be heard. Food descriptions were more about the brand names than about the dish. Four of us all described as average.

Great bar, indoor dining space and patio right on the square, open kitchen that isn't noisy bu entertained us while waiting for our plates to arrive. The staff was on top of it, and very friendly. The food - wow, it was incredible! We shared a Rabbit-Leek Rillette for starters, Goat Cheese Gnudi for my lady, Flat Iron Pork Loin for me - portions were perfect and the kitchen nailed them all.
