Diner Reviews
  • "Tea at Reynold's Tavern is reserved for a special occasion even if that is just grandmother with her grandchildren. It's especially nice to have the quiet and unhurried atmosphere."

  • "Soo I convinced the girlfriend that I've wanted to try Reynolds for quite some time mainly due to its historical value. Read the reviews that said the food was okay (which it was, a bit overpriced for what it was) -- besides the Bacon Mac and Cheese-- that stuff was amazing, probably should have just ordered two of those for my entree! BUT I was sipping on my water when I felt something granular in my mouth and when I pulled it out it was a chard of glass. This was quite concerning to me, and I never give bad reviews or complain as I've worked in the industry before. All the waiter did was apologize and bring me a new water... If I had swallowed that chard who knows what that can do to your body."

  • "This was a perfect place for lunch when taking friends on a tour of Annapolis. It has so much history along with the ability to have high tea or lunch and the food is perfect. We had a lovely time in this 300 year old inn."

  • "We had the high tea. Everything was delicious, especially the soup. Service was great. We had a wonderful time. We are vegetarians and they easily accommodated that."

  • "We chose this restaurant for a celebration. It was an evening during the week and the restaurant was almost empty. They were out of 2 different entrees and the only chocolate dessert. The waiter was extremely slow in everything. He had to "go ask" about every question. He did not serve bread until the entrees were half finished and he did not give us a choice but instead just put whatever kind he wanted us to have. It was effort for him to keep out water glasses filled. My husband's entree was barely edible due to the spices. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, our group of 8 was pushed into the back corner of the room where it was difficult for us to get into the table much less for the waiter to have room to serve."

  • " I had the cream of crab soup, and the scallops for dinner. The crab meat and scallops were both extremely salty. I like salt, and usually add a few dashes of salt to my food, but the scallops were so salty they left a burning sensation on my tongue. The salt completely overpowered the taste of the crab meat and scallops. I recently learned that the seafood industry frequently treats seafood with a commercial salt (Sodium Tripolyphosphate) to make it absorb water and weight mores (the percentage of water weight can be as over 50%.) This is common with frozen farmed shrimp - just read the ingredients. I didn't want to eat chemicals for my special birthday dinner, and you might want to make a choice about how much salt you consume."

  • "I should have listened to other reviews. The service was pretty terrible and, although we are normally pretty easy to please in the wine department, we had to send our wine back. To his credit, we were not charged to that dine. By the time it came for dessert, we just didn't have the patience for it."

  • "Historic location with good food! Quiche and salad were quite tasty. Desserts were over the top! would definitely return."

  • "Reynolds Tavern provided an outstanding experience. The High Tea was everything we hoped for and more. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Would highly recommend."

  • "My family and I often visit downtown Annapolis, but had not noticed Reynolds Tavern until recently. After reading about it on the Internet, my mom and I decided to go for afternoon tea/lunch, and we absolutely loved it! The little dining room where we ate was beautifully decorated in a Colonial style, and even though we went on a Monday afternoon, we were surprised to see a few other groups dining as well. Our server was very nice and took our orders immediately. I ordered the savory tea with Earl Grey, which came with finger sandwhiches, tarts, and a scone--it was absolutely delicious!! When we got home afterwards, we both wanted to come back for lunch the next day. We will definitely visit again soon!"

  • "While the Reynolds Tavern is renown for afternoon tea, we have found it delivers a consistently excellent evening meal. The entrees are very American yet have a unique flair and far more taste, read that proper seasoning, than many other top notch venues in Annapolis. We visit them before going to the Rams Head for a show, but with its situation on the town's main circle, it is so centrally located that any reason to dine is a good one. Garage parking is also nearby. The staff is always pleasant, and the service allows you to dine in a relaxed manner, never rushed. It is a very special place, with twin dinning areas filled with antiques and one even has a fireplace, and if you want to eat outside, you can do that too."

  • "Had afternoon tea with wife and daughter. Wonderful ambience and great food. Highly recommended. Very English feeling and beautiful china. Happily accommodated vegetarian dishes."

  • "Reynold's Tavern helped to make a birthday dinner memorable. I've been to the Tavern a few times for lunch, but never for dinner until now. My expectations were very high and I was not disappointed in the least. The building is beautiful and so historical. My guest and I were seated in a perfect spot, by the window. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I was a little disappointed, at first, that the kitchen had run out of one the entries in which I was interested. I soon forgot about that omission after I tasted the main course that I ordered instead. Afterward, the server followed up with a slice of decadent, chocolate cake with a birthday candle on top. Probably the best chocolate cake I ever tasted."

  • "I grew up in Annapolis but Saturday night was the first time I had dinner at Reynolds Tavern (I went there for afternoon tea a few years ago and really enjoyed it). The dining room is small as you would expect from such a historic restaurant and the service wasn't exactly speedy, but the food was delicious. There were six of us and we all enjoyed our meals (crab cakes, mahi mahi, steak frites, rockfish) very much. I would highly recommend dinner at Reynolds Tavern when you have a little time and want to enjoy the historic ambience of downtown Annapolis."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at Reynolds Tavern several times. We've never been disappointed. The food is great, and service is very attentive but not annoyingly so. This time, we tried the Long Island oysters appetizer and the bacon-wrapped sea scallops--both were great. I tried the Mint Julep and found it minty and not overly sweet--excellent. They have a good wine list, but we just ordered by the glass and liked what we ordered. We will definitely return to Reynolds."

  • "I drove down from Delaware and the Tavern did not have my reservation. Luckily with some juggling they were able to accommodate us but if you make a reservation and drive a long way you expect the restaurant to have the reservation. The Tavern is quaint and nice but the food was only mediocre. We both ordered the fish and chips and they were greasy. I ordered the bread pudding and don't understand how they were out of it at 1230."

  • "We did not find this a pleasant dinning experience. A lot of the menu was unavailable the service was gruff All in all it certainly did not live up to the reccomendation we had been given"

  • "We really enjoyed the dinner at Reynolds. We had two 11 year olds and they found the food great also. The drinks were good. The shrimp and sausage was great. We definitely will return to this place. "

  • "The food here was the best i've had in years. Simply delicious. Compliments to the chef. Our waiter was great also, more than accomodating. This is a historic restuarant with reasonable prices for a fabulous dining experience. We were shocked that is wasn't more crowded but was fine for us since we prefer quiet dining. Very special romantic historic place to dine. Would recommend highly to others. "

  • "I was over the moon at how good the food was at Reynolds Tavern. You must try the macaroni and cheese with bacon (omg!). It was worth going back for. The service was also fantastic. Really nice place run by nice people."

  • "Reynold's Tavern is located in old town Annapolis. We had dinner at the tavern on Friday, 9 May. The food was great (we both had the filet), the service outstanding and the ambiance was very nice. We will return soon."

  • "The food was a great example of older traditional American cuisine. The setting was quite relaxed and the cream of crab soup is a must have. Please note that the speed of service is extremely relaxed, so if you are looking to have multiple courses, expect to stay for at least 2 hours. I will surely return here the next time I am in Annapolis. Highly recommended."

  • "Everything mostly was great, great service, great window views of church. Food was really good, but a tad small on portions. Rolls are made to order, but they were a little hard or chewy. Steak was so tender, crab cakes were tasty. But the best part was the crab soup, I would say its more of a bisque but it had to be the best I ever had. "

  • "We came for high tea and it was delightful. What an array of tiny, flavorful gems. And yet we could not finish everything. The service was flawless and we were not rushed. We look forward to going back and highly recommend this gentle afternoon treat."

  • "Son got chicken wings (16 yo and non-stop eater) Only had 70% of his order. My daughter and I had gotten fish and chips and it was just OK. Would visit for cocktails for the fun atmosphere but wouldn't plan on having a family dinner there."

  • "We were treated to a wonderful evening in celebration of our wedding. The bacon Mac is a must. The grilled meatloaf must have been close to 16 oz with a wonderful sweet and sour glaze. The menu is varied enough to allow for most palates. The atmosphere has kept the colonial nature of the building. The drink and wine menu is quite broad. Finally, the overall cost, with drinks, appetizers, entrees, and coffee came to around $40 per person with tip. A must while in Annapolis."

  • "This is a very pleasant historical building. My husband ordered from the lunch menu and I selected from the tea menu. The tea selections were extensive and it was very nicely presented. I choose a scone and several tea sandwiches. I originally tried to make a reservation for dinner, but it appeared that the restaurant was booked on Tuesday evening, so I had to settle for 4:00, not an ideal time to eat. We stopped by the restaurant at noon to see if there were any cancellations and discovered that it is closed on Tuesday evenings. We rescheduled our meal for 2:00. Open table needs to make it clear that the restaurant is not open for dinner on Tuesday evenings."

  • "Good food, although a bit pricey. Waiter went out of his way to serve and set up storage of leftovers for our pickup after a Friday night Colonial Players show. Crab cakes very good (although not a really traditional MD crab cake). Mahi and Rockfish meals were very good. Cajun Shrimp and Andouille sausage over Penne excellent (bring your Pepto as it is a spicy dish). Nice dinner all in all. A 6 PM reservation had us out the door and arriving at Colonial Players with ~ 15 minutes to spare for an 8 PM show. On return at around 11 PM noted that the Pub scene was really rockin'..."

  • "Some of my girlfriends and I like to get together and have tea. We've had tea at most of the places in the DC and VA areas, and decided to branch out and try Annapolis. Reynolds' Tavern was an absolutely delightful place to have tea. There were many, many choices of types of tea to drink, as well as the style of tea service you might like to have. (Colonial was our choice) Our server was terrific, and the historic tavern was lovely. We even found a small museum-style display of artifacts unearthed from early Colonial Days in the lobby! Our only disappointment was with the tea sandwiches. They were not very good - a real contrast to the rest of the food and a huge contrast to the tea, which was fabulous."

  • "Reynolds Tavern has been a favorite of ours for romantic dinners and afternoon tea for years. Their traditional English afternoon tea is one of the best I've ever had. We spent a relaxing 90 minutes enjoying our tea and delicious sandwiches and sweets. The service was top notch as well."

  • "I live my life by experiences or needs. It is the triple play rule(I usually want 3 things) - this experience - I got good food - good service and good ambience. It was probably a Grand Slam!"

  • "First time at Reynolds Tavern and our family really enjoyed it. The food was outstanding, all five of us enjoyed our meals! Not suitable for young children but my kids are all in their early 20's and loved the food. Can't beat the location, love the history and stepping back in time. Meghan did a very nice job caring for our family, sweet girl."
