  • "We had 6:15 reservations and left Fremont in plenty of time, however US80 didn't know we had reservations. We were very late and were concerned about dinner before our 8:00 concert. They actually called us before they gave away our table and were very concious of our time constraints. The food was very good, the server was attentive and friendly, and, as a result. we were at the Freight and Salvage in plenty of time and were pretty much stress free after the freeway hassle. We will go back, but we will try new ways to get to Berkeley in the future."

  • "went out for a date night as we had been wanting to try Revival out after walking by and seeing the bustle and beautiful ambience inside. While the food was incredible, delicious pork chops with a cabbage base and a light flaky halibut with an incredible puree, the service was lackluster to say the least. Took our waiter 10 minutes to get to our table and take our drink orders, and then we waited another 30 minutes to actually get the drinks delivered to our table, and they arrived moments before our meal got to the table ....I thought restaurant 101 was to get your drinks within about 10 minutes of sitting down??? it's a shame, the food would have brought us back but don't think we'll be going here again"

  • "Great place to celebrate my daughter's Birthday! Creative menu and great taste!"

  • "This was a wonderful place with well trained service and delicious unexpected recipes. The kale salad stood out even among a proliferation of restaurants serving kale. Each of the dishes were well thought out and the meat was cooked to perfection, plus the plates were reasonably sized (a full meal without over doing it). The desserts were memorable as updated standards that fulfilled the desire for a last bite of something sweet. I would be excited to go back."

  • "Revival Bar and Kitchen is located in the Betkeley Theater District, and convenient to Berkeley Reperatory Theater. A great atmosphere for post theater meal or drink. The wait staff ask right away if the diners are attending a theater. I think that training is a good and realistic sign of a successful operation. The menu is short, but eclectic with fish, fowl, and red meat. The dessert menu is devised on site by a pastry chef. The menu seems to be changed daily in some way. At least our hostess told me that they were waiting for newly printed copies. A worthy restaurant in a developing theater district."

  • "My husband and I were visiting Berkeley and I am always looking to try new restaurants with creative menus. We were delighted with Revival. The food was absolutely excellent and fresh. The service was great. We were even given the option to taste the wine before ordering. The bar was packed and vibrant. It was loud but not too much to carry a private conversation in the dining area. This place is very cool, with excellent food and I will definitively come back."

  • "Great list of specialty cocktails, wines by the glass and draft beers. Lots of ways to put together a meal here. There are lots of items that share well - flat breads, cheese plate, charcuterie plate (they make their own) and appetizers. Entrees are good size. Very nice mix of foods; both the meat lovers and vegetarian in our group found good choices. Service was good; there when we needed it and didn't mind that we took time to chat. Highly recommend. Close to Berkeley Rep, Freight & Salvage and other Berkeley activities."

  • "We were very excited by the menu and ordered the pates and cheeses to start-goose liver was fabulous-the other 2 pates we did not finished-we liked the hard cheese but not the soft ones-the "trimmings" were yummy.-especially the thin fruit crackers. Salads were too acidic-did not finish-just ate the crab. The kale was krispy on top and soggy on the bottom. The peanuts were great-eat alone and we tossed them in the salads. The main courses were good-but not big on main courses. Cocktails were good."

  • "This place is great! We've eaten here a few times now, and have always walked away very impressed. The service is spot on, the food is spectacular, and the ambiance is gorgeous! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We've always been satisfied with our choices. Must check it out!"

  • "Our Revival experience was definitely unique. We had 8 PM Berkeley Rep tickets, and told the server about them at the outset of our 6:30 reservation. We ordered everything at once, and drinks and first courses came in good order, to everyone's satisfaction. My corn and parsnip soup was particularly delicious. However, we kept waiting; at 7:30 the server said our food would be "right out," but by 7:45 we told the hostess we had to leave. The manager came over to apologize, saying they'd had a problem in the kitchen. He wouldn't let us pay for anything. As I told him, we will go back, as the incident was an aberration, we love the food, and he handled the glitch with grace and generosity."

  • "Service was very attentive but then dropped the attention a few times, room is great, fun, food looked to be mostly locally sourced was great, nice wine list, especially liked the keg wine choice. Two minute walk to Berkeley Rep."

  • "Enjoy eating here before going to berkeley rep. Arrived at 6:30 and ordered the entrees at 6:45. The kitchen was overloaded and they didn't arrive until 7:30 so we had to rush to leave without being able to stay for dessert."

  • "From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out, we experienced a staff who never batted an eye to our needs. I'm a Paleo (no grains, grass-fed meat, no soy corn rice etc) Our waitress was very understanding and so was the kitchen staff. My duck dish was beautiful, delicious, plentiful, and my husband was also very happy with his meal. Dishes were well presented, brought in a timely way, and water glasses filled frequently. Wine pourings were generous and delicious. This experience was the highlight of our weekend, which was a three day getaway to celebrate birthdays. It couldn't have been a better evening."

  • "The atmosphere is great. We started with a flatbread and fried artichoke. The flatbread was great, the fried artichoke was ok. My husband had the pork chop and it was easily one of the best pork chops he has had at a restaurant and he is picky. I had a sweet pea and ricotta ravioli and it was also very tasty. The desserts were nothing to write home about but I am pretty picky about dessert. The wine menu was interesting and reasonably priced. Overall we really enjoyed it and will look forward to going back."

  • "My husband and I very much enjoyed our pre-theater meal at Revival and appreciated that the wait staff moved quickly with our food and beverages so that we made it to our theater seats in ample time. We love the mixed greens salad (lower right hand side of the menu), the pickles (amazing and unusual), and the meat/cheese platters. I had the halibut for my main course and it was lemony and tender."

  • "We had a reservation for 5pm on a Saturday knowing that it would be hopping and probably loud as the evening progressed. I was glad we did because it filled up fast and was noisy. the server was quite pleasant and efficient and the food was lovely. I do not know if I will return simply because there are so many great restaurants in Berkeley and I'd like to try them all! It was pricy but I knew that going in. I would say that it compares favorably to restaurants of its kind but is not spectacular enough for me to warrent giving it 5 stars."

  • "We had a tall blonde woman as our server. She didn't take give us bread until 15 minutes after we had asked for it. It was 35 minutes until after our entire party arrived that she took our order. Our table seemed to be a very low priority for her. The man who refilled our waters looked generally unhappy and was not welcoming. At one point I ask another bus girl where the bathroom was, and she pretended not to hear me at first, then finally, with her back turned, she pointed at the hallway and said "it's right there". Had it not been for the food, I would have been incredibly unhappy throughout the entire experience."

  • "Love going here if you want a restaurant with a feeling of being alive upscale bistro restaurant. They have a great bar and delicious food. I go there before or after theater when I I see work at the UC Berkeley Zellerbach Playhouse and the hall, Aurora Theater and Berekely Rep. Revival's become a great place for dinner and drinks."

  • "I chose Revival by chance as a night out (Valentines Day) prior to taking my wife to see a play at the Berkeley Rep. Needless to say we both enjoyed our evening out. The food was well presented, but it was their attention to detail that really caught my eye. Not a second went by without a wait staff checking on each and every table. As a former restaurant server, bartender and manager, I was surprisingly impressed. I highly recommend this wonderful establishment."

  • "Great spot before attending Berk Rep. Unusual menu choices. We ordered all the salads so we could share and try them all. it would have hard to pick one from the Beet, kale and crab salads and all delicious. Halibut entree cooked to perfection. Attentive service on a very busy night. Out the door in time for the play!"

  • "I liked the bar scene and decor of the place. But I was underwhelmed with the food and service. The mixed grill combo of lamb, pig belly, and steak loin was too gamey and too much fat for me. The steak loin was the only tasty meat but it was only about a 3 oz portion. All the meats were small portioned. The service was sporadic. I think it was so busy that tables/guests were being missed like ours by our waiter."

  • "Revival Bar is very, very close to the Berkeley Rep, Jazz School, Freight & Salvage, Aurora Theater etc. And the food is great. We shared a sardine appetizer and then I had the braised lamb and my wife had risotto cakes. Both these entrees were excellent, but the accompanying vegetables were perhaps even better. The chef seems to put just as much energy into the sides as the mains. The mango souffle was wonderful and the wines were fine. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Just a very nice meal."

  • "We both had the roast lamb on garlic soubise with crispy red potatoes and an olive relish. The combination was unique and incredibly delicious! The sound level in the restaurant, like most these days, was too high but the food could not be improved upon."

  • "One of our group ordered the pork chop and accepted the standard, 'Medium'. After finding the meat closest to the bone was raw, a long, dark hair was noticed on the plate. Both of these faults were pointed out to the server in the hope that management could take corrective action. Instead of the expected visit to our table by the manager, the response was a dismissive 50% off the price of the chop, communicated by the server."

  • "Our go-to place before Aurora/Berkeley Rep/Freight & Salvage, etc. Wine: Sancerre, dry, crisp, not too grassy. The generous portion of well seasoned Country pâté filled with pistachios served with housemade mustard, chutney, pickled veggies and baguette toasts. Crab salad with avocado aioli dressing, lots of fresh crab, Treviso, endive, a generous portion to share. Goat merguez flatbread was our main course - I found the sausage spicy but tasty. Perfect cappuccinos. Servers did a perfect job, never interrupting a conversation, always there to answer a question, fill the water glass or take away empty dishes. Noise level on the early side not an issue, and we had reserved seats along the wall, always a quieter area."

  • "We started with excellent pours of House gimlet, Blackbush, paired with a DON'T MISS charcuterie plate (pates are superb) and hedgehog mushroom flatbread. We had great swordfish and duck entrees (confit and breast!) with side of chili honey brussel sprouts and signature shoestring fries. We were quite full and shared a superb bread brioche pudding and waddled over to theater. A big plus is 5PM opening to leisurely eat before 7pm Weds plays. Our current favorite pre theater go to place. Prices ~$100-120/cpl."

  • "So glad we went to Revival. Top price for entree was $27 which we find very reasonable. Great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Love the sustainability of it and the farm to table / that they butcher their own meats! We personally do not want to support commercial farming that treats their livestock horribly, so it feels good to eat at revival."

  • "My husband and I visited the restaurant on February 13, 2013 after a work conference I had. Our reservation was for 5pm. We were seated quickly. Our waiter did not come over as quickly as I would have liked, as it was the start of the shift and it seemed there was a staff meeting taking place. No problem though. Appetizer was fabulous. Waiter was very knowledgeable about menu items. Dinner was excellent. I'll be going back!!"

  • "Food good! Pâtés were really.good. Ordered small pate but got large plate. Could have sent it back but didn't say anything, so too much food. Good but stuffed , my passivity. Nice romantic evening. Had extra for takeout. Already told friends "go there! Especially handy for theaters. You guys made reservation so easy."

  • "We live in SF but wanted to meet our son in Berkeley for a birthday dinner. A one block walk from the Berkeley BART station makes this spot pretty ideal. We shared the sun choke & artichoke starter. Perfectly done and tasty. The mixed grill was a perfect medium rare with tasty sides. The kale salad was huge and full of sparkly surprises. The only disappointment was the dessert. None of us thought that the mango banana combination worked well and the syrup was not helpful. Great service and wine list!"

  • "This fit well for pre-Berkeley Rep dinner. Some dishes work better than others, beet salad & charcuterie plate were hits, sides of fries and Brussels sprout not so much, a bit overpriced to for what was delivered. Keg wine a good offering that we enjoyed throughout the meal. Friendly, earnest, helpful service."

  • "Had a great Valentine's Day dinner here with my wife. Excellent cocktails, we sat at the bar before our table was ready. Friendly, attentive service from the bartenders. Entrees were good, I had the pork chop, my wife had the rib eye. Skip the pickles. Chocolate dessert was excellent."

  • "The atmosphere and service were good, but the entree my friend and I got was disappointing (the swordfish). There were too many strong flavors competing for attention. If about half as many ingredients had been selected, this would have been a much better dish. The fish itself was fine, but got completely lost under everything else."
