Diner Reviews
  • "To begin, the Renaissance Cafe is a great spot...a true diamond in the rough. It SHOULD BE the best restaurant in the Salina area...given it's unique location, quite and romantic ambiance, and great food/wine selection. However, over the last three visits we (my wife and I...and our friends) have noticed a significant increase in the amount of salt put into the food. The quality of the ingredients, the dish selection, and the culinary aptitude of Chef Kevin himself, should be enough for a 5 star experience - but salt has overpowered the taste and destroyed the dishes. It's unfortunate I have to write this review, but the Chef is not responding to the feedback from his customers. Ease up Kevin! No more salt! Its good enough without!"

  • "My wife and I were truly impressed by the dishes that we ordered. She had the steak venato and I had the prime rib of tuna. Both were perfectly prepared and delishish. The service was excellent, as was the atmosphere. Sorry we waited so long to try this wonderful little place. We will definitely be back."

  • "It was my wife's B-Day and we invited two other couples as our treat. The food was great, the wine was good and we could talk easily and enjoy each other's company. I'd recommend it to anybody!"

  • "We were late to the party finding this gem located only forty minutes from home, but glad we finally did. Towns of any size would be lucky to have a place of this quality but to find it in a town of 500 makes it somehow even better. I had the salmon, it was equal to the best I've ever had. The vegetables and potatoes were perfect. The bread pudding was amazing. The service was perfect for the atmosphere. I hope to get back soon."

  • "I felt like I was looking at a menu from a **** star restaurant. You can not find this type of food at a chain restaurant. This food was special and quite delicious and the price was appropriate"

  • "Our small city is full of chain restaurants with cookie cutter food, cramped dinning rooms and loud music. The Renaissance Café is a short 10 minute drive to a small town and is worth the drive. The ambience is perfect for a quiet dinner for two. The food is wonderful and service is outstanding."

  • "My husband and I thought the food was great from the bread with special butters and dessert made on site to the entrees( they really know how to cook fish). The vegetables were delicious and the whole presentation was great. The orange sorbet between courses was just right as was the small almond cookie at the end. The service was terrific - we felt pampered."

  • "We always enjoy the quiet, relaxed and atmosphere of this small town school building turned into an unique restaurant. The three guests that had the salmon and tuna steaks were very well pleased, the ribeye steak could have been a little thicker. Vegetables, starch and soups/salads were very tasty. The fresh baked rye bread was served warm with a delightful herb butter. An extra special touch is the palette cleanser before the entree is served. We felt the wines were very affordable . Our party ended with the delicious bread pudding. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The value of the food is excellent. Guests are made to feel very special!!"

  • "Unless you are rich, this won't be your every night kind of dinner. I had steak and my wife had chicken. Both were DELICIOUS! We also had their cheesecake for dessert, and that too was great. The total cost was about $65 including tip. We will definitely be back, but it has to be a special occasion."

  • "The food is just excellent. The atmosphere is very unusual and very interesting. One is with others and very private at the same time."

  • "My husband and I recently dined here for the first time. We will be back! Our server Shannon was amazing and very hospitable! We want to request her every time! The ribeyes were truly the best I had ever had in my life! Loved everything about this place! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food at Rennaissance Cafe was fancy enough to satisfy my foodie wife (beef tips and polenta) but basic enough to satisfy my "meat and potatoes" teenagers (steak and chicken). The atmosphere is not plush but it is nice enough. Nice incorporation of the old high school gym. Service was good. I had the tuna and it was very good."

  • "If you haven't found your way to Assaria to eat here, you need to do so. The food is better than you will find at top end restaurants in Wichita and very reasonably priced. Neat setting being in an old school."

  • "Very inovative medditerian food in an old school house with great service."

  • "The Renaissance Cafe is a jewel tucked away in a most unlikely place. The dining experience is very much that of a fine restaurant in a large city. However, the staff is able to do it in a very small town without the stuffiness or intimidation of the city. The food is AMAZING. I am certain I have never eaten a better steak. Kudos to the chef and his staff for a wonderful experience. I love that the restaurant is located in an old school. It's such a fun, inviting environment."

  • "Steak was a perfect medium-rare. Vegetables were perfectly seasoned. Potatoes were perfectly roasted. Dessert was perfectly sweetened. Perfect."

  • "The ONLY thing missing from this restaurant's menu is a full (or even partial) bar. Wine is great for the dinner but not everyone drinks beer or wine."

  • "The food at Renaissance Cafe is simply wonderful. It's not the standard food you get at all the chains. Food is created by a chef, prepared to perfection! If you aren't familiar with something on the menu, the servers are very knowledgeable about it and will explain to you what the item is. And, speaking of the servers, they are also wonderful and attentive. The atmosphere is great for those who prefer a quiet place to dine. I recommend this place highly!"

  • "There was nothing we didn't like about this restaurant! Shannon was our server, and she was very attentive and genuine. We loved the orange sorbet as a palate cleanser before our main course. My wife's salmon was perfectly done and very flavorful. My chicken dish had a robust flavor that made my palate dizzy! The ambience was perfect....loved the way the remodel overlooked gym floor. There was nothing that we didn't love about the Renaissance Cafe! Worth the drive, wherever you are coming from."

  • "This hidden gem is known to locals but not well advertised or travelled. Open three days a week for 4 hours, it is an exceptional place and reservations are needed. The menu was apportioned, and wine list outstanding. The service was exceptional. This is a must go...."

  • "In an area of Kansas with few "fine dining' offerings, this restaurant is a delight. I've never found it lacking in either service or quality. A gem!"

  • "We enjoyed the quet atmosphere. The four of us could carry on a conversation and be heard without raising our voices above a noisy background. Our server was helpful with suggestions and available when needed without being intrusive. The fresh rye bread with the herb butter started the evening off on the right foot. When we left we were relaxed and felt like we had "gotten away" for the evening."
