  • "Beautiful view. Very nice server. Cobb salad was crispy & delicious. Portablella mushroom sandwich, tasty. But why oh why do managers permit employees to vacuum the dining areas during mealtime? Come on! Talk about ruining the overall dining experience. If I wanted to listen to the vacuum cleaner I would have stayed home! I mentioned the annoyance to our server and she immediately took care of the issue. Will we return? Perhaps."

  • "We enjoyed a quiet dinner and breakfast during our hotel stay. We had a nice indoor table with a view of the marina (same table for both meals). At dinner, Shane provided excellent service, including talking us into a red wine instead of white with dinner (for the same price), and it was a great pairing. The food was terrific - clam chowder with jalapeno and bacon, mixed greens, swordfish for DH and lamb for me and dinner and an egg bowl for me and wrap for DH at breakfast. Service was slower at breakfast (in fairness, the place was busier) and just a notch off from dinner, but was still very good. Because it's remote from downtown I wouldn't go back just for dinner but it was nice not to have to leave the property to get a good meal."

  • "Saturday late lunch dining. Perfect afternoon with good service and a great harbor view. The blue crabcakes are a good appetizer choice. The grilled portabello sandwich with heirloom tomato/roasted red pepper on a focaccia bun was excellent and the grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich with avocado, tomato and tobiko sauce on a focaccia bun was well received. The side dishes, cucumber salad and homemade potato chips are excellent. All ingredients very fresh. Service was attentive. Lunch menu could include a variety of more seafood dishes."

  • "This Hyatt restaurant's never been appreciated at the level it deserved. It's been a family favorite for decades. Great views, relatively quiet and uncrowded and usually excellent food. The Red Marlin is the most capable iteration of this site ever. For my wife's birthday her brother came and his date were down from the Bay Area. They were blown away. From our table we watched the sun setting over water to the west and the full moon rising over water to the east. Excellent food, Piper Sonoma champagne, Spellboud Petit Syrah, great desserts. Casual and elegant. "How come there's no place like this in San Francisco?""

  • "The restaurant is beautiful and has a sweeping view of the hotel marina and southern tip of Mission Bay. The service was timely and attentive. I would rate the food as very good to average. My salmon was perfect. Three in our party of six had the crab cakes and reported they were tasteless. They were mostly filler and very little crab. The clam chowder was ordered by two of us and each on enjoyed the Southern California touch of jalapeño and non traditional seasoning. We are local diners, not visitors and we've dined here previously and will return."

  • "We went for Ester Brunch. Original reservation was @ 2 pm. We arrived 1:30 pm All food in was "old" not fresh kept for hours under heating lamps or on preheaters in buffet . Cook from waffle station was arrogant. No one bother to refill fresh food. At 2:30 they start cleaning up all food from buffet. For a price $55 per person we have to sprint in eating "dried oysters" evaporated chowder, not warm ham or dry beef. We came to brunch in Hyatt to enjoy food and celebrate Ester not to McDonald or Denny's. We will never ever go to Red Marlin again. Shame on Hyatt."

  • "Had my bridal brunch at this hotel 36 years ago! Wow, how time flies. I was heading to the spa for a massage and had a wonderful portobello sandwich for lunch. The view is wonderful, the service was excellent. So happy I came back!"

  • "My wife and I made a reservation at Red Marlin for Valentines 2014 and were excited to try a new spot! The initial greeting was warm and friendly and we were immediately seated by the fire! Sorry to say, that's where the good service ended. The server forgot almost everything from re-filling the bread to bringing us the bottle of wine I ordered for our romantic evening. I had ordered my scallops well-done and this request was also forgotten...server blamed the kitchen :) Food was mediocre at best! What can you can expect from a hotel restaurant, right? Great ambience and lots of potential but this place needs a chef and better service!!! At $75/person, this is was a costly mistake and put a damper on my Valentines evening :("

  • "Our family came here for Christmas Dinner while on holiday and we were totally disappointed. The staff were distracted and disorganized. Manager was present but let his staff take the flack for the disorganization. Despite reservations, we had a long wait to be seated. Our waiter did not seem experienced and had a very hard time remembering the orders from our table and the ones around us as well. The food was very disappointing with the exception of the soup and the dessert. This is a potentially beautiful place, but terribly disorganized and not accustomed to serving large numbers, which is odd considering it is attached to a large hotel. It is right on the harbour with a lovely view of the boats and the lights and the ocean - sad."

  • "My sister and Husband dinned with us they ate from Dallas and are very picky. they both commented on the food and service. This location is wonderful, views of the sailboats and yatchs and speical effects are great. The fire Bar is located to give early arrivals and guset a comfortable place to relax. Location next to the hotel is vey convient for out of town guests."

  • "I had a great meal (the scallops are highly recommended!). You may want to ask for lowish-salt on to-order food, as both dishes (scallops, chowder) I had were very salty; I love salt, but it was just barely under the line of "too much," with bonus salt crystals on the butter to smear on the salted-crust bread! :) The ambiance of the restaurant is great though, especially in the evening when it's warm enough to sit outside. You will probably end up paying about $50 person ($75 with wine), but for a special occasion or if you just want some high quality food in a nice place, try out the Marlin, you won't be disappointed. I didn't have to drive, but there's lots of free parking nearby at the shoreline, which is a nice bonus in San Diego."

  • "Dinning at Red Marlin for my wife's birthday set the tone for the remainder of our stay at the Hyatt! An elegant staycation for the family, just enough to break up the day to day routine."

  • "I had never even heard of this restaurant until my old company was offering gift certificates to it through our Corporate Perks program. I finally booked a date night out at Red Marlin with my boyfriend. It was a great night all around! The hostess was bubbly and extremely engaging throughout our time there. Our server, Shane, was excellent & his recommendations were on point. We will ask for him again next time! And the food was awesome! My boyfriend & I both thought our meal was the better one, which is exactly the outcome any diner should be looking for. I had a half Caeser Salad & the Surf n Turf while he had the San Diego Clam Chowder & the Seafood Rigatoni. ALL were top notch! Definitely get the Diamond Margarita too!"

  • "While staying at the Hyatt Mission Bay, we thought we would go to the Red Marlin. The service is great... but, I would definitely make reservations because I saw people turned away that didn't have reservations... The food is really good. They have fish, chicken, steak, crab cakes, surf and turf, risotto and pasta. We tried a little bit of everything up to and including some great martinis! One of my favorite things was their "Go Green Butter Lettuce Salad". It is very good Goat Cheese, Pears Candied Pecans."

  • "Really great view from pretty much anywhere in the restaurant. Had the sunday brunch buffet - very good. Decor is nice and it is great to be able to get special coffee drinks brought over to you from Einstein bagels next door at the marina. Overall a very pleasant experience."

  • "Party of 4; seated at a prime window seat. Wait staff was very friendly, professional, and attentive. I informed our waiter that it was a birthday celebration. He asked which person without them knowing. After dinner, he brought out a nice dessert. As for our meal - the sea scallops were to die for. The filet; cooked to perfection - Medium. The seafood pasta - terrific. The appetizers were yummy too. Our waiter gave us ample time to enjoy our drinks, appetizers without hasseling us for our dinner order. Very well done. We will return for sure."

  • "My boyfriend and I have been coming to Red Marlin for two years now. It has become our absolute favorite dinner spot. We love th location, it's very close to our place in Crown Point, the service is impeccable; Frank is absolutely amazing! He remembered us the first few times we came, even though the times we dined there were few and far between, and each time he made us feel very special! Everyone in the FOH has always been so accommodating and kind. As for the food, there isn't a single dish we have ever had that didn't blow us away! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! Great for friends, family or romantic dates. Casual and upscale at the same time.. Love the Red Marlin!"

  • "We were in San Diego for 9 days and this was the most disappointing place we ate. Food was alright, they charge an arm and a leg and the service was not very good. Great location."

  • "We enjoyed ourselves, however, we were celebrating an anniversay and when we arrived they did not reserve a great table with a view. They sat us in a booth that was near the front entrance, nothing special at all. The food was good, small portions and somewaht expensive. The waiter was pleasant, but really wasn't anything special. They have an excellent location and could really make this a destination for locals and tourist alike. I'm a local person and had it been a bit more pleasant I would have put this on my list of local eateries, to me it was just so,so!!!"

  • "I was staying at the Hyatt for a conference and enjoyed Red Marlin for a client lunch. Great views of the bay, a nice lunch featuring sandwiches, seafood, etc. I enjoyed the build your own salads feature off the menu. Would have liked to had time to enjoy the bar scene. It looked inviting."

  • "This restaurant has an enviable Mission Bay location and good food. But the service is terrible. Even though it was not busy, the waiter was both lazy and incompetent. An example: he would ask if anyone would like wine and two people would say "yes.". Then one person ordered a glass of Chardonnay and before another person could speak and without looking to anyone else, the waiter would spin away. You had to await his return to place the second order. Amazingly, this also happened with dessert and then for after dinner coffee. He never came back to check on the orders served until the plates were taken away. And the orders were not completely correct. It would be difficult to return."

  • "This continues to be my go-to when it comes to holiday brunches. It is not a huge, grandiose venue (a la Hotel Del), which I absolutely despise when it comes to brunches. No problems finding parking, no waiting forever in the omelet line, etc. The spread is always spot on for our expectations. The service has always been fast, friendly, and professional. I have nothing but good things to say and I'm industry."

  • "Pricey, but excellent food. Were seated at a window table, and waiters were all attentive. Wedge salad was large and fresh; swordfish was fresh and couscous with peas delicious; crab cake was tasty and succulent, and chicken flat bread was quite good (although a little dry). We would definitely go again, but would also definitely want some kind of discount (we had a 20% off coupon), as the prices are high."

  • "The food was very good, as was the service. We were happy with the timeliness of receiving our food once we ordered. This is always important when you have two children who were non-stop most of the day!"

  • "We ate here when we stayed at the Hyatt recently. The service was outstanding, the restaurant is beautiful, but unfortunately the food was less than expected. Primarily, everything was very salty. I had the scallops and they were a little overcooked and salty. The spinach & kale was so salty we couldn't eat it, and my son's steak was really overseasoned. Given the limited dining establishments in the area, hopefully they will work out the issues with the food."
