When it says "Red Gravy" that means get the RED GRAVY! Tomato sauce is home made taste with the underlining of sweet plum ripe tomatoes and a slight kick of flavored heat that makes the sauce addictive! The meatballs are homemade tasting and confirmed by the owner all FRESH ingredients, that you can taste! My wife and I are locals but just never made it here until now. This is handcrafted food of the highest order. My beef cheeks marsala were breathtakingly tender and flavorful. If you don't go here there probably isn't a medication that can repair your brain damage. He said they were the best he has ever had.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely brunchI decided on Red Gravy for brunch on our first morning in NOLA and we were not disappointed I'd booked a table for 10:00 but we arrived half an hour early and they were able to seat us straight away anyway Hubby and I both ordered the meatballs with red gravy, the B-I-L and S-I-L ordered alternate options I wasn't sure what to expect but was very pleased to have chosen the meatballs - It was in fact one fairly large meatball about the size of a tennis ball, quite garlicky with a lovely light texture The red gravy is a very slightly spicey warm tomato sauce. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would definitely recommend a visit fot breakfast or brunch and looked great for lunch and probbly an informal dinner4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough the dinner menu leansAlthough the dinner menu leans strongly to Italian fare, I decided to have the Southern Fried Hen (and greens and Belgian waffle points -- an upscale chicken and waffles), and enjoyed every bite. There was not much of the glaze that is mentioned in the menu description, but the dish stood well as it was. Others in my party had the Duck 3 Ways and Tuscan Gulf Shrimp and also were very pleased.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNEIGHBORHOOD GEMWhat a neighborhood gem! We stumbled upon Red Gravy while staying in NOLA. Its in the perfect location, right off of Canal St. The area is just off the beat and path enough to really enjoy the restaurant. The Owner was present to greet every table, and the waiters were on top of their game. The Italian/NOLA inspired dishes are very interesting! We wish we had time to go back another time or two to try some of the other intriguing daily specials. The restaurant was perfect in just about every way. There was not a mediocre dish on the table! We had a wonderful time, the food arrived timely, even though they were busy. The service was great and the prices were good as well.
