A word from Ray's Cafe
Ray's Cafe is the perfect vantage point for savoring our postcard view of Puget Sound with a micro brew in hand and a bowl of clams. The Cafe features a casual and lively atmosphere and a wide range of menu options. Open for lunch and dinner every day, the Cafe is the perfect place for kicking back and relaxing.
Our outdoor deck is the place to be for sunny day dining (Please note that we do not take reservations for our outdoor deck seating). Is it a typical grey Seattle day? Cozy up near one of our two stone fireplaces and you'll soon forget about the chilly weather outside.

Please note as of March 1 we are no longer accepting the Passport Card, instead we will be implementing our own loyalty card program. Feel free to ask us for details!

  • "Great views on a sunny day, sitting on the deck. more than makes up for the just ok food. seafood fettuccine was overpriced and bland. crab cakes were ok. that seems to be theme for the food - ok."

  • "The food was fantastic! Lots of great seafood options. I would recommend trying the clams. The view is amazing, patio is first come first serve but the inside has lots of windows for a reservation. Reservations are highly recommended."

  • "I used to bring visitors that I wanted to impress to West Seattle and Salty's. However, at Salty's I always felt like I was being ripped off -- the price is simply too high for what you get. However, after eating at Ray's, I can confidently report that the food at Ray's is much better than at Salty's. While Ray's lacks the iconic Seattle skyline view, at Ray's you get an overall better experience due to the tastier food and attentive service."

  • "Visiting from Tucson, we wanted to find a good seafood restaurant frequented by the locals- and Rays Boathouse did not disappoint! We made reservations and were seated right away even though the place was packed. The view of the harbor is fantastic! We started with the Crab dip & Clam chowder. Both were unique And delicious! As were each of our entrees- Scallops and Halibut. All in all an excellent experience and I'd love to return if possible."

  • "Beautiful location, delicious food, great outdoor dining."

  • "I dine at Ray's Cafe once or twice a year when I spend the night at Shilshole Marina. While the food is still very good and I can always find a nice wine on the list, the ambiance and the service are not what they used to be. The Cafe seems to have become the "kids' table" for Ray's - lots of families with very active small children - and the service is aimed at feeding the kiddies and turning the tables quickly. Maybe next time I'll trying dining downstairs to see if that's a place where I can have a really good meal and linger over a bottle of wine before walking back to the boat."

  • "A must-stop destination for great seafood and other dishes in Seattle. Stunning outdoor ambience when dining during the summer. The visitors we bring always have a wonderful experience."

  • "Lucky to have a beautiful night and availability of an outdoor table at Ray's Café. Great views over the water and friendly staff make for an enjoyable time. The food was also great, along with the local beer selection. Reservations are only for inside tables but we requested an outdoor table and were accommodated with a 15 minute wait. Definitely a great place for out of town guests!"

  • "Our family of seven enjoyed a 50th birthday celebration early on a Sunday evening . Great food excellent service! We would celebrate with you again. It was a bit too loud for us is all, but still very memorable. Both 7 and 1o year old kids had fun and ate very well. The broccolini was a big hit with one! An added hit was our charming smiling and hard working server."

  • "Great food, great view and service! Wanted to sit outside with reservation, but an extra 30 minutes. That's ok though, it was still wonderful! We showed up with 6 people when I only made a reservation for 5 people and they accommodated us right away! Great job! This was for a baby shower and was so glad we picked this restaurant!"

  • "As usual, the view was awesome, food fantastic, and service great. What's not to love about this place? I can walk there from my house, which I plan on doing again this summer. Haven't eaten downstairs, but the remodel makes it look like where I should be for my next very special occasion."

  • " Entertaining a large party, Ray's Cafe was the perfect setting to introduce guests from out of town to Seattle. The food was exemplary, as always, and the staff was courteous and highly efficient. Very child friendly too (1,5,6 year-olds). Thank you for another wonderful experience."

  • "Ray's cafe is the place I always choose to take my out of town guests when they arrive in Seattle. A walk through the grounds at The Locks, and dinner on the deck at Rays makes for a perfect Seattle summer evening. As the 21 year old son of my friends from the Midwest summed it up, while sipping his cold beer and looking out at the sun going down behind the Olympics, "I feel so incredibly lucky to be right here, right now.""

  • "Our wait person was a little distracted for some reason. Our orders were slightly mixed up. Didn't ruin the birthday celebration though."

  • "food was good. service was extremely slow especially since we just ordered salads. some other guests who arrived after we did were done with their meal before we got ours."

  • "I haven't been to Ray's for some time. The selection and quality has gone way downhill. Ridiculously over-priced."

  • "We usually don't travel into Ballard area but will do again and more often."

  • "Ray's is one of our all time favorite restaurants. The environment is outstanding, the wait staff is knowledgeable and efficient; and the food is great - love the summer berry salad."

  • "I never write a negative review...sad to say the food was just OK. The crab cakes were very dry, also the salmon sandwich didn't really take like salmon :( People who had the Copper River enjoyed their meal, but the rest was rather a disappointment. Our service was amazing though, and dessert was yummy!"

  • "We love Ray's and often head there for special occasions, and they never let us down!! The service is always top notch, the food is consistent and they have the best drawn butter for the crab legs, (as well as the best crab legs - so fresh and divine!). We have a 4 year old, and they always treat her so well and she loves going there. She was able to sit through a very long dinner, and no doubt the view, the activity page they give out and the great server was part of making that possible. It also has a stunning view of Puget Sound, with lots of boat activity to watch."

  • "Whether its the happy hour, lunch or dinner Ray's Cafe is a great place to conduct business or enjoy a family outing or just meet with friends. The restaurant is very cooperative for making special food preparation if requested. And if you have kids, they are made to feel welcomed as well."

  • "I've lived in ballard for over 20 years and have gone to Ray's many times. So for my Mother's 78th birthday I thought this would be the place place to celabrate! The view was great, the service was great, but the food was so awlfuil!!! My son's dish was uneatable. shrimp was bad. My dish was swimming in a pool of soy base sauce, making it hard to tease the fish and way too salty. I thinl on june 11th the cooks hust did not care what went out! I spent $260 for food i would never have served to anyone."

  • "My latest visit to Ray's Cafe was a little mixed. Making a reservation online was a bit misleading - meaning - the online system would not allow me to make a reservation at a specific time, i.e., 5:30 PM. It only allowed me to select within a range of time. When we showed up, most of the tables were available in the restaurant with the exception in the bar and patio areas which was understandable during happy hour and on a warm and sunny day. Our food was okay, but did not justify the higher costs like the crab cake entree. $24.00 for two crab cakes was a bit high and they were not the best tasting either. Their clam chowder has been really good in the past. This time was not so good. The green oil sprinkled on it didn't help it."

  • "Large, loud, impersonal decor with touches such as indoor/outdoor carpet leftover from the '70s and furnishings that looked like WWII army surplus. Over-cooked, king crab and halibut; sides likewise; all kinda thrown on the plate--which wasn't large enough for the legs. But if you like your margaritas made from a mix or your g&t with flat tonic, then you're set. Beautiful view."

  • "You can't beat the view of sunset over the Olympics for a romantic evening out. Make your reservation for an hour before sunset so you are just wrapping up dinner and having a glass of wine as the sun goes down. There are seats outside with heaters and blankets for those who wish to brave the chill and seats inside with nearly as nice a view. The staff is nice, if a little distracted (they forgot our salad) and the food is good quality but plain. It's quite hard to go wrong with king crab legs. My wife and I both ordered them and split a full ceasar. They were cooked well and tasted fabulous. The devil is however in the details. In a foodie town like Seattle, I expect those details to be right and the sides were bland and lifeless. "

  • "We had dinner at Ray's on Friday night (party of 4), and ordered a couple appetizers before our dinner. When our entrees arrived, almost an hour after ordering them, our appetizers still hadn't come. Our waitress apologized and comped them, bringing them out about 10 minutes after our entrees were served. The food was good once it arrived, and the location is great, but the service was sub-par. "
