  • "Delicious, delicious food! Our server was great, too. It was a little expensive but the salmon and scallops were to die for as were the desserts! I'm so glad that Grace Street is active again. Having grown up in Chesterfield and spent many Saturdays shopping at Miller & Rhoads and Thalhimers - the visit to Rappahannock Seafood brought back many happy memories! Parking was no problem either. There is street parking and a parking lot across the street but on the same block!"

  • "Got seated right at reservation time. Good selection of craft beer and wine. This place is very smokey--like enough to make your eyes burn. Waiter tried to tell us it was like this all the time due to the way they cook. You can't tell me the health dept. would let a restaurant open its doors much less serve food in this kind of environment. Our clothes reeked like a campfire when we got home. Overall, food was decent, but small portions--and the service was fine. If you're looking for a decent-sized filling meal, this is not the place."

  • "We arrived at 6:00 and the bar was doing a bumper business since it was happy hour. We wanted a bottle of wine, but settled instead for two glasses of prosecco on tap. My husband had the wood grilled salmon which was very good. I ordered the wood-grilled scallops--the entree, not the small plate. They were delicious but definitely over-priced for the portions. (I received 3 scallops) I was surprised that the menu was different from the various ones I viewed online. They must change it frequently according to availably of items. We had the peach/blueberry cobbler for dessert. The ice cream was the best part. Oddly enough, the waiter didn't ask if we wanted coffee. Overall, we had a nice experience, but we will not become "regulars.""

  • "Great raw bar. Good food, wonderful variety, however the wood grill and/or smoker, for some reason, can't or at least isn't properly vented outside. Warning if you are asthmatic or otherwise have respiratory issues, and for the rest of us, expect to go home with clothes that reek of smoke."

  • "Our party ordered the grilled octopus, rockfish & oyster bourride, grilled scallops, extra billy bread and Pearls & Oysters. All dishes, except the raw oysters and grilled bread, were vastly over salted. I'm not someone who avoids salt, my SO is always amazed at how much salt I put on popcorn, but this had me drinking lots of water. The flavors were good, but overwhelmed by the salt after a few bites. Our dinner was on a Sunday afternoon, so perhaps their best cook was off that day? Based on this one meal we will not be returning -- too expensive to be mediocre. Nice space, good service, disappointing meal."

  • "The food is high quality but you don't get very much for the money. Scallop dinner was only 3 scallops, the $14 beet salad was skimpy, but good, I had to eat when I got home. They put an automatic 20% grat on our bill. The service was ok, not mind blowing."

  • "Party of four - we all enjoyed the food - especially the sampling of oysters, clams, and the paella! Our waitress was very knowledgeable, offering pertinent suggestions regarding both the food and cocktails/wine. It's not inexpensive, so wouldn't be a weekly visit if we lived there, but we'll definitely go back the next time we visit Richmond."

  • "Overpriced food and less than exemplary service are the best ways to describe my lackluster experience. 6 Green weeds drowned in 'kill a snail with the amount of salt' fish oil dressing proffered as a salad (no other vegetable) on an undersized dish. A main course that after 65 minutes of wait time was sooooo underwhelming that the only thing that could make the salmon any better would have been not to order it at all. - - - If you would like an exorbitant wait (with no crowd) for a main course that had less flavor than a mouthful of raw sesame seeds this Uber-wannabe-trendy-spot is your dive. The silver lining was chatting with the 17 year old oyster shuck; great enthusiasm, just hope that he rubs off on others!!"

  • "We went to Rappahannock on a Thursday night at 7 PM. When making the reservation, I specifically asked for a window table for three. Upon arrival our table was not ready even though the restaurant was not busy. We were shown a table between the front door and the bar, not a window table and were told that was the only window seat available even though clearly, there were many open tables by the windows. Ordered baked oysters for appetizer to share. We were under-whelmed by the six small oysters that tasted mainly of green peas. The beet salad and the roasted carrot salads were wonderful. Main dishes were only okay for the upscale price. With all the great food choices in Richmond, I won't be coming back."

  • "I had seen a documentary on television about Rappahannock oysters which led to the restaurant business.. I was very curious at that point to visit the restaurant and it was simply terrific. I had raw, baked and grilled oysters and Lamb (melt in your mouth) and a sampling of craft beers. The atmosphere was casual yet everyone there knew there was serious cuisine at hand to be consumed and a hearty selection of craft beers and other libations. It's just a classy, well done restaurant and the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and they all seemed glad they were there! Go.."

The menu is well-selected and the wine/beer list is good - stay away from the Albarino, though, because it tastes sweet, apple-y and not at all typical of the varietal. The server removed the glass of wine from the bill and we found a great rose. The food selections are beautifully prepared - unfortunately, my friend's Walleye arrived looking terrific, but the inner section was cold - not underdone, cold. That entree was not removed from the bill, though we brought the problem to the server's attention. On the other hand, the Halibut was very good and was cooked to medium in the interior."

  • "Too many hard interior surfaces made for too much noise and difficulty in carrying on a conversation last Saturday night. Food was good, although the octopus appetizer was a tad too salty. Everything is ala carte and pricey including an extra charge for bread. Peach and berry cobbler dessert with vanilla ice cream was excellent. Generous use of morel mushrooms in a noodle side dish was appreciated. Good selection of craft beers."

  • "I was willing to overlook the table next to the bathroom, and being completely ignored for 15-20 minutes despite having a reservation, but not the lousy service or the food. The lamb was mostly fat, bones, and gristle, and so so salty!! Husband's fish was ok, nothing to write home about. I will say my cocktail was good. The waiter was slow and condescending. He informed me when I asked for bread that "you have to order it." I'm not sure what he thought I was trying to do by asking him, the waiter.. Perhaps there is some secret alternate bread ordering process? We had to order it a second time before we finally received a few pieces of hard bread on a saucer, plunked down on the table like an insult. Needless to say, we won't be back."

  • "Everything, from the ambience, to the wait staff, to the food and wine, was FANTASTIC. I was worried that the air would be smokey and that we would smell bad from sitting in it after reading one review, complaining about the smell and haziness from the grill, but there was no evidence of any of that! The air is not heavy and the smell is nothing but subtle deliciousness. This was our anniversary dinner and we could not have had a better experience! Thanks for a memorable evening, Rappahannock."

  • "The food was fine, but the value is awful. With prices of entrees ranging from $26 to $32, I expect the food to be spectacular. It was not at all. My wife ordered the scallops, and got three small scallops and some beans for $26. My paella was fine but again a small portion considering the $32 price tag. One daughters had salmon and the other halibut, each $26 and good, but not worthy of the price. The philosophy seems to be to dress up the entree with some exotic sounding side dish (bok choy, etc) and price it about 1/3 over what it should be. We felt robbed and would never recommend it to others. We ran into friends there whose thoughts almost reflected our exactly."

  • "Our party of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our Father's Day dinner. The food was imaginative and delicious, and the drinks were expertly crafted. It's hard to find a Richmond bartender who has heard of a sazerac... mine was sooo good. The baked oyster (with bacon and figs) appetizer is a "must do". Then, there were the different types of raw oysters. I really meant to bring some paella home, but it all had to be eaten right away. My 11 year old daughter absolutely demolished her pork belly dinner. The halibut must have great too... It was totally MIA at the end of dinner. Can't wait to return."

  • "I had a difficult time deciding what to eat. If you like oysters go for it. The rockfish and oyster stew was a bit bland except for the exorbitant amount of fresh pepper they use. The waiter was extremely nice and helpful. The atmosphere was nice. They charge for bread."
