    The restaurant is 100 seats split into 3 separate dining areas. The first area is the Rao's Room which is an identical replica of the Rao's in Manhattan and can seat 45 guests. The second room is the Chef's Room which overlooks all that transpires in the kitchen seating 32. The final area is the garden terrace which seats an additional 30 people al fresco style under feast lights and heat lamps.

Rao's, the legendary East Harlem eatery, is now set in Hollywood amongst the studio district branding its third location. Widely acclaimed as one of the hardest reservations in America, Rao's New York was established in 1896 and has not moved locations since its inception.

  • "My husband and I ate here as part of the Dine La promotion. We were excited to have a local outpost. My food was spot on and my husband enjoyed his. He was disappointed with his eggplant parm as it was just two individual eggplant rounds topped with a little sauce and cheese. No side of pasta or veggies. It was comical, really. I had the cheesecake for dessert - heavenly. My husband ordered the cannoli & was shocked that the servicing size was a single miniature cannoli. YES! The small ones that Cavaretta's, my local Italian market, sells for $1.25 each! Again the food was good, but to pay $110.00 at Dine La when we ordered off set menu (no seafoodor meat, just pasta) and consumed only a glass of wine between us is a bit outrageous."

  • "Went on Sunday with a group of five. Hostess was very accommodating with seating. Service was friendly and attentive. Three chose the "Sunday Gravy" and were disappointed. Lots of quantity, but not that tasty. Salad was good. Others chose pork chop and spinach mushroom pasta. Better than the "gravy", but nothing in the food to draw us back. Nice Brunello by the glass. One can find better Italian food in LA."

  • "Hollywood Rao's is a cheesy imitation of the NYC original - kind of like a movie set... Interior is cozy and outdoor sitting area in back is quite lovely, but Xmas decorations and "Rao's Marinara Sauce" light fixtures on tables just look cheap. Service was rushed even for a Saturday night. Waiter brought cocktails, but we didn't even have time to enjoy a first sip before the courses started coming out. And we had to practically tackle the waiter to order wine for the meal. Food itself was solid, but nothing to write back to my family in New York about - red peppers and buffalo mozzarella were ok, bolognese pasta was the one standout, and the meatballs were salty, but huge and doused with delicious marinara sauce that balanced it out well."

  • "Like everyone else, we looked forward to dining at Rao's LA because it's possible to get a table in NYC. My wife has studied Italian cooking in Italy and we are hard to please. Rao's was perfect, from the service that made us feel like famiglia, to every it we ate. The meatballs were ambrosia, the veal chop with sweet and hot peppers was perfect. My rigatoni with core do pomodoro and pancetta was awesome. And, where else can I find Brunello by the glass? We will come back every time we visit L.A."

  • "We go to many great restaurants and have for years. This is the first review I have ever written. I think this place is fabulous. The ambience, the food, the service is fabulous They have the best pasta sauce I have ever tasted. I buy it at the market. The Veal is excellent The atmosphere was very comfortable and allowed us to talk with ease, no rush We were with my son from out of town and we were able to catch up with great conversation and great food I felt like we were at home only the food and service was much better I like the fact that the restaurant is off the beaten path. I went last Sunday night. We are returning this Saturday night and we are looking forward to it We will try the meatballs next time"

  • "The food was decent, but not great, and much too pricey. We were there at 6:30pm on a Friday night, and the place was empty. According to others, after 8:00pm, it's full and diners must wait for a table. We ordered lemon chicken, spaghetti bolognese and meatballs, with a starter of bruschetta. The bruschetta platter included 3 slices of toast with marinated cherry tomatoes (not enough garlic to taste), a handful (1/2 cup) of field greens, and 2-3 slices of prosciutto. It was a lot less than we expected for the price. The lemon chicken contained several large chunks of chicken in a generous amount of very lemon-y sauce. The meatballs appeared to be 1/3 lb each, and were light and delicious. The pasta bolognese was ordinary. "

Food is just mediocre...Veal Piccata jut OK...spaghetti bolognese was actually good. Limited menu....The XMAS decorations all year round are just silly in L.A. Desolate location....Street parking everywhere....Valets are waiting for you though! Service was friendly and attentive. It just can't compare with any of the food NY Italian restaurants..ie. Il Mulino....or L.A.'s Culina,Cecconi or perhaps any other Italian you may think of....Sorry."

  • "Fell on love with Rao's in NY,, and missed it when I moved to LA. Was excited when they opened in Las Vegas. At least I could have some comfort food not that far away. Then they opened in LA. I'm so happy, and go there as often as possible. Everything is great, but it's the staff that make it memorable. Your treated as an old friend from the moment you walk in. Order the seafood salad to start, it's amazing with shrimp, lobster and calamari . Next order your dinner, but don't forget to order the meatballs. If the special meatballs are available, order those. They are amazing, but the regular ones are great as well. After your meal, the gelato is very good, especially the chocolate one. Go, enjoy, you will be glad you did."

  • "Was looking forward to trying this high profile New York transplant-- and was unfortunately very disappointed. The food was underwhelming to say the least, and was overpriced. Meatballs were tasteless, lamb was small, fatty and under seasoned (and $50), spinach was oily, sausages had good taste but presentation was lacking and accruements were not cooked well and bland. Service was rushed and scripted. No cocktail list. Besha Rodell puts it perfectly in her LA Weekly review, and I would have to agree-- one star. LA has far better Italian, far better throw back restaurants, and far better food quality than this. Don't waste your time or money."

  • "I was so excited to go here as I grew up in NYC and nobody can get into their restaurant in Harlem. The restaurant is nice. It is not overcrowded (which I like) and tables are not right up against each other. I was lucky to have really good tables the times I went. The food was excellent. We started with the meatballs. Personally I loved my "veal parm" and tried the "Lemon Chicken". I even enjoyed the grilled vegetable platter which my friends ordered. The portions are large so you can share with others at the table or not I loved my "left overs". I really enjoyed the desserts too. I will be back."

  • "We had heard a lot of great things, there were a few negative reviews on open table we wanted to find our for ourselves. We could not have had a better meal or dining experience. We were seated on time, the server was friendly and knowledgable, the food was amazing. My wife is vegetarian so sometimes she is limited, she loved the house salad and eggplant parmesan. As everyone has said, you can make a meal of the meatballs. I ordered them as a side and took one home. The prices are not expensive for one of LA's top restaurants. It cost less than Dan Tana's which is a very similar restaurant. We intend to go back often!"

  • "This is my 3rd time to visit RAOs. I love the seafood appetizer salad, its lemon vinigrette is so light and crisp, it complements the calamari and crab. The chef and waiter were great, the penne vodka was out of this world. I made sure to save room dessert. The cannoli and tiramisu and of course the new york style cheesecake was to die for!! The overall experience was incredible, I got to meet Frank and Frankie, the owners flew in from New York and greeted me like a VIP!"
