Diner Reviews
  • "We tried Railcar for the first time last night. I ordered the salmon, which was good. My wife ordered the prime rib special which was served in a large bowl with the mashed potatoes and a gravy/au jus sauce. Her first cut of the prime rib haf a lot of gristle and because the meat was sitting in a bowl with the sauce, it was very salty. The food overall was O.K. I was more dissatisfied with the service. It appeared that our waiter was covering a fair number of tables. I generally order a drink and a glass of water and jokingly call it my "tip-o-meter". If both glasses get empty, the tip is automatically 10%. I very, very rarely invoke this, but almost did last night. We will probably go back and give them one more chance."

  • "This was our first visit to Railcar after hearing good reviews about it. Food was excellent and the menu had many interesting choices. Happened to be there for the Saturday prime rib special. It was very tender and tasted great. The wedge salad that was included was very tasty. We will be back to try some of the other items."

  • "Becoming one of our favorite out of the way dining spots. Always a variety of menu to choose from. Always enjoy our meal selections here."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at railway. From food to service drinks and atmosphere. We will be back for aure."

  • "Our group of seven (plus two children) seemed to overwhelm the restaurant on a much less than crowded Sunday brunch. Four meals arrived at the table, followed 5 minutes later by another four meals and 20 minutes later the last meal - which was apparently burnt by the chef. The food was acceptable and the service by the waiter was also acceptable."

  • "We have dined at Railcar on numerous occasions but this last time, we were disappointed. My husband ordered the Bison Medallions, which he LOVED on prior occasions, but this time it was a giant meatball, not a medallion. It was also extremely dry. My Salmon was good but was drenched in sauce. We will go back, but I think instead of ordering entrees, we would stick to appetizers, sandwiches and salads, based on this meal."

  • "Food was great, service was ok. Not exemplary. The shortrib flatbread app was delicious and the chicken and the goat sandwich was good as well. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Will return sometime as"

  • "Have a new favorite. We try to patronize the independent restaurants and have found a gem. The Rail Car is our latest find. As soon as you enter, you are greeted and hardly a second goes by that you are seated . Reservations a must after 7PM on weekends. The food is excellent, cooked perfectly for you. The ribs are as good as any place in Texas. Half order of ribs is more than enough to feed you for two meals. The asiago chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, to die for. Hamburgers on brioche buns, fabulous. The service is excellent, always ready with refills. I would strongly recommend. The Rail Car."

  • "I have been at this restaurant 6 times. Each time I believe the quality of food has slipped. We had a waitress that might be new because I believe that other tables had much better service than we did."

  • "I had tried Railcar some months ago for lunch, and was a bit underwhelmed. I was looking for something like and got a salad that was just OK. HOWEVER, after a raving recommendation on the burger, I had to go try it and WOW! It was the BEST burger. Not a giant one, which was good, I don't need giant, but amazing flavor with creative sauces, fresh brioche bun and skin-on fries of my dreams! The rest of the menu looked easily as interesting and we will be back! Oh, another plus, half price bottles of <$50 wine on Monday.....our dinner bill was under $40 for two after tip, wine, beer and burgers. Don't miss the pretzel rolls, too. Nothing better....."

  • "We decided to go out for Valentines, and many other restaurants were booked. We really enjoyed our dinner at Railcar, a nice resturant with good food that will not break the bank. A small local restuarant in an unassuming strip mall location, but a superb smaller menu with enough options that was very well prepared. Service was very good, maybe not excellent, on a busy night. We would definately go again."

  • "We are regulars at Railcar. The food is always good. We are trying to move around the menu some. But we seem to always start with the short rib flat bread. Good service. Sometimes a short wait. Good sign! But they're on Open Table so no excuse! i don't do goat cheese or mustard. These seem to be chef staples but they accommodate requests to alter the item to my tastes."

  • "The $5 nice wedge salad is not only excellent but the best deal in town. And the french onion soup is wonderful. This is our go-to restaurant."

  • "Another Fabulous Omaha Neighborhood restaurant. Delicious food with that little extra something that only the really good chefs can give to the menu."

  • "The menu was "different" in a good way. The entrees they offered were unique to other restaurants and tasted wonderful! The staff was very friendly and took great care of us. We enjoyed the wine selection too. The desserts we tried on the otherhand, were just ok. They sounded delicious but we found them to be very dry to taste."

  • "I went to Railcar with a group of 4 and all of us had amazing food and drinks!!! I had the natural Stilton burger and it was perfect. It came on their pretzel roll and was loaded with flavor. My husband had the Coffee rubbed Ribeye and it was delicious as well. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Nice stting for a lunch get together. Service was great, food was different than the usual lunch fare and very tasty. I will be coming back."

  • "A friend recommended this restaurant and as it was a half-way point, my sister and I met there for lunch on Sunday. Our waiter was great, the hostesses nice, and it was an all round pleasant experience."

  • "The menu at Rail Car was unexpected. The atmosphere was pleasant and we got waited on immediately. The Menu is eclectic and has a variety different choices not usually seen on traditional fare here in Omaha. I ordered the clam chowder, broth based with tasty clams, not over milky or loaded with potato. This was Friday choice. The soups are different everyday. I also had the Cubano grilled pork sandwich; very crispy bread wonderful flavor. I only ate half as the portion was large along with toasty fries. My wife who is Vegan ordered the artichoke sandwich and Asiago Mac & Cheese and was very surprised at the outstanding quality of the food. II really felt we had gone on a real dining experience and will return."

  • "We had heard great things about Railcar. Unfortunately, our experience was not the best. We were seated at a table in a back room that actually blocked an exit door despite having reservations well in advance. Our server was knowledgeable but very "stand-offish" in his approach. The food was good - not outstanding. It is doubtful we will return."

  • "Had the house smoked salmon Appetizer. It was a very large half fillet of organic smoked salmon. (Much larger than I expected) It was Delicious! The beef stroganoff was very tasty, slightly salty, but very good. We also had the land and sea, The fillet medallions were cooked to perfection. I'm not normally a huge fan of risotto, but it had a very nice mushroom sauce that went perfect with fillet and salmon. Very good, and reasonable. We will be back!"

  • "My sisters and mother met here for a double (sister) birthday dinner which was noted when making reservations. Filet stuffed with Lobster which the lobster was no where to be found in one entree. The others had to really look for theirs. The other was the chicken schnitzel. Soggy, not crisp as had before...None of the filets were eaten.. They were ordered to be med/rare, and were tough as could be. They were comped, which was classy.. Because they were comped, there was no birthday dessert (or so we figured) . We did not ask and it certainly was not delivered. Our waiter had mentioned he would have a dessert for our birthdays. The real kicker was finding out our drinks were charged an ice fee of $2.00.. In Omaha NE??? Lost all of us."

  • "Went Sat after VD. they still had special menu from night before. We were not informed of that when we made reservation. Menu was limited as to what we saw on website. Food was good etc...not alot of choices. We did not go out on VD on purpose."

  • "We went here for Valentine's day and had the prix fix menu. Our salad and appetizer were very good. We had lobster stuffed beef tenderloin which were not as good as they sounded. My molten lava cake was overdone so it basically was a brownie. My husband's key lime pie was delicious. The service was slow. Overall a decent meal but not so great that we want to go back."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a good friend. The Manager's special was lobster stuffed tenderloin, which was tough and the stuffing was dry....as well as Hawaiian Ahi Tuna which was overcooked. The salmon appetizer, however was excellent and the banana cream pie was one of the best I've had. Overall, disappointed in the meals and probably will not return. To pay over $100 for a special menu, I would have thought the food would have been amazing. At least the waitress was funny, despite her messing up our order."

  • "Our party ordered the Stilton burger, cherry ribs and the ribeye. All was very good and we would get them again."

  • "Service was terrible. Waitress didn't know how dishes were prepared. After we ordered from the "specials" menu, that was when she decided to let us know they had been out of jambalaya and other dishes for a few days. Then why give us the menu?"

  • "This was our first time here. The food was outstanding, the service was top notch. Our waitress knew the menu inside and out. She recommended three entrees that were must tries. Our food was amazing. We will be back and we will bring friends. We will also spread the word about what a find this place is. Thank you."

  • "We've eaten at the Railcar 5 times: for special occasions and with guests whom we want to show a good local restaurant. We have never been disappointed. My wife continues to have the buffalo meatloaf every time, I try something different each time. The Cherry ribs are wonderful and I've just had the jambalaya-very satisfying!! The wait staff is exceptional so go and enjoy yourself :-)"

  • "Visited for the first time last night. I enjoyed the land and sea special. The crab cakes were maybe the best I've ever had and the tenderloin was great too. My husband had the clam bisque that he enjoyed. We thought the staff could have used some additional training. The hostess seemed to be overwhelmed (our reservation was at 5:00 so it wasn't that busy yet), it took a long time to get our drinks from the bar & the waiter wasn't as polished as I would have expected."

  • "Went for dinner. The food we had was nothing exceptional, and the server we had appeared indifferent to us. We noted they had an extensive sandwich and burger selection, and we might try it for lunch. We would not hurry back there for dinner."

  • "Dining as a table of 4, my friends and I each got a different entree to try. The Cubano, Maryland Style Crab Cakes, Prime Rib Melt and the natural burger. Each dish was delightfully unique and flavorful! My Prime Rib Melt was cooked to perfection with caramelized onions and a melted blend of cheese on a lightly grilled toast bread. It was fabulous! The atmosphere was cozy, our waitress was very attentive and the General Manager made it a point to inquire about our food and service. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "My wife and I like the Railcar for quiet dinners out for great food at reasonable prices. The service is usually good and we like the menu variety which is changed regularly as owner/chef Jared tries new things. The "Nice Wedge" is one of the best I've had and this time we tried the Apple Pie which was delicious. All of the entrees I've tried have been excellent. I'd say to keep the kids at home. This restaurant isn't really a place tor kids unless you can keep them quiet as the small size tends to amplify the sounds. We would recommend the Railcar highly and a local gem located off the heaten path at 144th and Blondo."
