  • "If you are looking for real BBQ, skip this place. It is overpriced, non-authentic Gold Coast fare. Very average. The portions are impressive, but the quality of food is not that good."

  • "This is the best upscale BBQ in Chicago. Their competition Baby Back ribs are outstanding. Hushpuppies are excellent. And to top it all off, they have an excellent whiskey selection. One of my favorite restaurants in the city."

  • "It was late afternoon. Place was not crowded at all. Food came up within at most 5 minutes of when we placed our order. It was lukewarm and did not taste fresh at all."

  • "I really enjoyed the beautiful smoke flavor that they are able to produce with the meat....DELICIOUS!"

  • "Great food but gluten free menu advertisement deceiving. Included things that are naturally gluten free, no fries, no bread."

  • "Great food, service, and scenery. We've had lunch, dinner, and everything in between and never been disappointed."

  • "Upon first appearance I didn't think that it would be "great barbeque" happening inside of this little place. I was wrong! I had the Blackened Alligator & Chipotle Corn__LOVED IT!"

  • "Waited at bar for outside table. Bartender was great! Seating outside was perfect and food was excellent. Server for table could have been a little bit better but did improve as the meal went on."

  • "The usual great food and service....the weather and the outdoor seating was just the cherry on the top....Thanks for a great evening."

  • "Some of the best barbecue in the city in a nice almost genteel setting. I have taken out of towners and clients, but it is also sweet enough for date night. Barbecue, inclouding beef ribs are awesome, as are the homemade pickles and chips. Don't fill up on the potatoe chips as the deserts are awesome as well...especially the whiskey milk shakes."

  • "We had a wonderful time with friends and the food was fantastic too!"

  • "Excellent barbecue and the best carrot cake ever. Even the vegetarian option (stuffed poblano pepper) was great."

  • "Friendly, fast and delicious! Made a reservation for a bachelorette party brunch on a whim, and it was a lovely experience--everyone loved their food, especially the eggs benedict (get the flight!) and the carrot cake pancakes!"

  • "I am an aspiring back yard smoker who thought he had made some progress down the road to "pretty good". The food here reminded me how far I have to go. The brisket was tender and moist with fantastic smoke balance. The ribs were tender without being soggy. (Some in our group, thought they could use more tug. I was not in agreement.) I tried some of the pulled pork and wept. Don't let criticisms of this being too fancy dissuade you from going. Prices are reasonable and the portions are generous."

  • "I hosted a casual business dinner on July 10th at Q. We decided to sit outside that evening, which was a great choice as it was very comfortable and slightly less noisy than dining indoors. I am a regular Q diner, and looked forward trying to that evening's special entree to celebrate chef/owner Lee Ann Whippen's recent second-place finish in a national BBQ competition, the dry-rubbed, cherry-smoked Rack of Lamb served with white BBQ sauce atop sauteed kale and chipotle corn. What an incredible dish! The Lamb was perfected cooked and flavored, and the kale/corn was outstanding. My dining friend had never been to Q before, but loved his baby back ribs and potato salad. We started with a crabl cake and hush puppies - always great!"

  • "This was our first visit to Q and it was a pleasant experience. The crab cake appetizer was delicious as was the stuff peppers. My companion had the ribs which he enjoyed. As it was his birthday, I was disappointed that it wasn't acknowledged. We would go there again."

  • "I planned to stop by this restaurant on our way back from the west coast. I had eaten at the owner's store in Virginia and wanted to try this one. The food was fantastic and plentiful. The side dishes were large enough to share. No one left hungry. I have eaten BBQ all over the country and would defiantly come back."

  • "Waited 15 minutes for Keith to come to the table, when he did he did not greet us or apologize for the wait, seemed bothered from the beginning. I was with two other people...my brothers pulled pork sandwich- he loved, my pulled chicken sandwich was good, however very soggy bun almost like mush, lastly my boyfriends brisket sandwich...ALL FAT! Hardly any actual meat on his sandwich, at most 3-4 bites of brisket the rest was nothing but fat. Waited 15 minutes for the check and 10 minutes to get my card back. I was so unhappy with Keith's service I didn't want to leave a tip, however the server assistants were too great for me not to. All in all don't get the brisket and if you get Keith as a server...MOVE!"

  • "Chicago q's interior is beautifully charming and chef makes the best pulled pork and chicken ever! Second visit in six weeks: first was dinner, second was lunch. Yummy sides we've had are greens, cornbread, slaw and fries. The complimentary bbq chips and pickles are delish, too. Going to try the competition ribs next time we are in town from Michigan!"

  • "We ate here on a Saturday night and had a great time! The food is amazing and the service is great too. The restaurant is alot bigger than it seems from the outside and there is alot of space inside. Before you order they give you chips and pickels which are really yummy but make sure not to fill up on them because the portions for the meal is rather large. My boyfriend and I ordered the meat sampler which came with a small portion of brisket, pulled pork and pulled chicken. We also split the mac and cheese. I didn't order it, but alot of people around us had the watermelon salad which looked really good too for a side. We also split a salad. Overall, great place for dinner with awesome food and environment. We will go back"

  • "The best dining experience I have ever had in under 60 minutes! Very comfortable but loud for me - I will ask for upstairs seating next time. Everyone enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was quick but never rushed, and our dinners were out very fast and all done right! I could not believe it when we were out (no dessert but they looked great) at 8 PM after a 7 PM seating. We all agreed that it was fabulous and would come back again!"

  • "Great St. Louis ribs. Tender pork that fell off the ribs. Bacon cheese fritters too salty. Enjoyed the complimentary pickles and chips! Big portion off pulled pork that was a bit dried. Crust on the apple pie was tasteless. Will be back to try other things on the menu. Enjoyed the ambience. Giovanni was an excellent server!"

  • "Being from North Carolina I thought it would be hard to find good BBQ in the midwest. Chicago Q proved me wrong I've visited them several times now and my experience each time has been great (both food and service)"

  • "Saying you are upscale seems to be an excuse for charging more money for food that is just average."

  • "I was expecting it to be very crowded at 6 when I got there but I was wrong it was near empty! But the food was still the best around without a doubt! I will be going back, maybe on a Friday or Saturday to see if there are more people"

  • "Fantastic place for BBQ in Chicago. I particularly loved the numerous sauces that came with our meal. That was on top of the delicious pickles and bbq potato chips that were complimentary appetizers. One will absolutely leave this place hungry, as the portion sizes are enormous. The service was also excellent, our waitress was prompt and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food in a very nicely decorated restaurant."

  • "This restaurant is really very nice inside with lots of character. Our service was ok, but it was Sunday evening and not that crazy yet there was a very long wait to order drinks and settle in. I would rate the service as 80%. He was nice but really offered nothing in the way of suggestions or seeking our preferences to guide us to the menu. The food was very good but not great. There were 6 of us and while the sauces were good, they brought a small bowl of each, enough for 2. I will go back, but rather than expecting great, I will expect good."

  • "The atmosphere was much nicer than most BBQ places but very relaxed. We were first timers so we started with the BBQ trio appetizer and it was a nice way to try the meats and the sauces before ordering. The pulled pork with the spicy sauce was our favorite. We also ordered competition and classic ribs which were both tasty but we did not think the up charge was worth it. The corn bread, watermelon salad, fries and homemade chips were terrific as well. Only watch outs were the noise level, and the drafty vents. We had to move to another table in order not to freeze, but once we were moved the food and service were great."

  • "Chicago q is in our neighborhood (lucky us) and so it's our "go to" place when we want to take a guest out to eat or feel like a splurge for a special occasion. The food is wonderful. The service is wonderful. Our guests always rave about it and request return visits. The only thing I wish they could improve is the noise level. The acoustics in the back, ground floor dining room are pretty bad. So, we've leaned to request a table in the bar area or upstairs."

  • "It was just my husband and I so we had a tiny table and I felt like our food could barely fit on it. My husbands chair was broken so he had to stand while they got him another one. Our service was bad; the waiter was nice but we had to wait forever for everything. It took him awhile to get our drink order and when he did bring the drinks, he was about to leave again so we stopped him and put in our appetizer order. I don't think he ever came back during dinner to check on us; someone else cleaned off our table and when he finally did come around, we just asked for our bill. That took forever as well. And it was really cold upstairs too. We probably won't go back again."
