A word from Provisions
A dining room built around a pivotal instrumental element, a mammoth wood- burning oven designed to churn out anything with smoky traces and a pizza-like crust. All urban rusticity, patrons will find themselves in a convivial space where confident food is served in a relaxed atmosphere.
/>Subtle and polished, “Provisions” aims to serve properly sourced ingredients through thoughtful presentation. Whether dining at the bar where expert cocktails and a broad wine list are available to wash down seasonal menu items, or seated in the lush outdoor patio, diners will witness pizzas made with good ingredients married well, roasted meats, and fresh pastas surfacing from a wood fired oven, all cooked in hot fragrant smoke.

Diner Reviews
  • "Creative and delicious food. Atmosphere is not great."

  • "I've been to the rest many times and love the innovative dishes. However, they took out some of our fav dishes. Korean ribs and duck pizza, gone!! Our waiter said he didn't know why as so many people ordered them and are asking why. Bring them back!"

  • "As a European who seeks out fine dining experiences over the world, I have been going to P&P on every single visit to Houston for a while now. This gets me in there every 4 to 6 weeks. My Spanish friend, who shares my love for fine food, and I like it so much that we order exactly the same every time... same wine, same starter, same entrees.... The only variable is seating... until last week! The previous times had been consistently amongst the best dining experiences in Houston. Not at all this time: waiter served us wine by the glass instead of the bottle we ordered (7 glasses at 12$ a piece of the same wine!), bread was burned, hamachi crudo was to thick and half normal size, pasta was lukewarm despite request to serve it hot, ..."

  • "This place was recommended by my friend but I was pretty dispointed. The food was made of good ingredients but the combination did not make sense. We ordered Chorizo mussels, a Kielbasa (sausage), a goat cheese pizza and a piece of blue chesse. The two entrees did not come with any sides, which was unexpected. We could barely find the goat cheese on the goat cheese pizza. Overall the food was not bad but not as good as expected. Also, even though the service was friendly a waiter spilt half of my wine glass on my lap. it was white wine so it was ok but my table remains sticky for the whole dinner and the waiter did not offer to not charge for this glass of wine. the food is ok, the place is nice but I wouldnt recommend the place to a friend"

  • "Had a delicious meal. It was fun to be here with a small group as we got to share different dishes. Highlights were the Hen Of the Woods pasta and the Fried Chicken Ballotine and the Ham O' Day is always great. This is a favorite place for a drink and a snack or a meal, any time."

  • "This is a great restaurant to share with friends and try lots of dishes. The food is served to you in the center of the table and everyone is able to take their portion. If I went to Provisions on a date, I would feel that I missed out on trying other food items. What I enjoy most about the restaurant is how the cooking always has a home style taste, but is very creative with their flavors. I would recommend everything we ordered: - English Muffin/Bacon Gastrique/Camembert (Sheep) - Roasted Heritage Breed Pork/Mustard/Havarti/Radish - Smoked Kielbasa/Pepper Relish/Mustard - Parmesan Bucatini/Meatball/Egg/Red Gravy - Beet Cake/Yuzu Curd/Clilantro Ice Cream/Juniper"

  • "The experience was delightful. The food is quirky. The best we had was the Hog o' Day, divinely grilled Diver scallops, scrumptous country pate with a hunk of toasted and buttered baguette, and the earthy Crest di Gallo - a nice concoction of mushrooms, yeast and pasta with a parmesan sauce. I had 'Earth Girls Are Easy' with rum, grapefruit, maraschino liqueur and beet juice as the sweetener. Brilliant. Wine list is ecletic. The Sauvignon Blanc from Slovenia was excellent. Who would have thought? We finished the meal with the Redcurrant Jelly Donuts and the Strawberry-Rhubarb tart. Peter Pearce, the food manager is impressively knowledgable on food, Scotch. wine and guided us to the best on the menu. Definitely for foodies."

  • "Good interesting New American cuisine. The food and drinks are tasty here. Lots of interesting cooking to go with a decent wine list and a great bar seen. Good for a small group to share lots of plates. Causal spot with a fun menu."

  • "I absolutely love the way they decorated the place. From the walls to the place settings. The waiters were extremely nice and helpful, and we're always quick to serve. The food was delicious! My table split three different pizzas ans they were all unique and fantastic. You could tell they used quality fresh ingredients. I would definitely go back!"

  • "Had a business lunch at Provisions on Friday and wasn't disappointed. The service was excellent and there was absolutely no rush to turn the table. Highly recommend trying one of their pizzas or the meatball sandwich."

  • "The food was fantastic, our server offered excellent recommendations, and the price was moderate for the high quality of food."

  • "This was our second visit. The kitchen is heavy handed with salt which can over power the otherwise interesting offerings. Worth a try but be wary of the salt."

  • "Overall it was good but not impressive. There's a lot of hype and we were at Provisions not the Pass so I thought there should be some flexibility in the menu. I asked for 2 simple things: to pair a bread and cheese differently than they had paired and to substitute cucumbers for spinach. No to both. So even though most of the food was good (not fabulous) it left a bad taste in my mouth. Prices are OK but portions are small. Drink WAY over priced. The dessert wasn't described accurately and instead of cheesecake I got a pile of foam that was tasteless."

  • "I love the food and the service. However, the noise level is distracting to both! For those of us older than the forties crowd- we need more quiet so we can hear each other ooh and ahh about the food."

  • "I met a business partner for lunch. Unobtrusive signage. Enough parking. Hostesses and waiter were friendly. Service was efficient. Classy, somewhat minimalist decor. Not a lot of choices on the menu and I don't mind admitting, a few ingredients I am not familiar with. I had a fried green tomato, avocado sandwich. I know those! Excellent. Guest had brat w artichoke soup. Seemed pleased. Noise level was just fine for conversation. Some interesting cocktails on the menu that my wife and I may try in the future."

  • "This was our first time dining at Provisions. The atmosphere was great....a very energetic vibe. The food was good, though not outstanding....but maybe it was just what we chose based on the dietary requirements of the people we were with. It was good enough that we definitely want to give it another try, and taste some of the other items on the menu. Our server was nice enough, though after a few stops at our table, we were hard-pressed to get his attention for some of the night. We did encounter one kitchen mishap (a little something in the food that...well....shouldn't be there), but the manager took care of the issue, and made sure that we were compensated, as well. All in all a good experience, and we will give it one more try."

  • "Had the bucatini with meatball. Pasta was a bit overcooked but overall very good. Also had the mussels in chorizo, was decent but not great."

  • "Food is absolutely delectable no doubt. Atmosphere is great and it's like. New York ... Raw and urban. Waitstaff were very friendly and nice; however, when you pour a glass of wine ... PLEASE GIVE A FRESH WINE GLASS ... Thus the lack of waitstaff etiquette of dining. Noise level is very very high. Had to lean almost across the table to talk. Overall food and Atmosphere made it wonderful."

  • "Chosen for a special event, but we were unimpressed & unsatisfied. Brunch was quite limited. It was rec'd to us, but was not our style. Egg dishes were very rich. Presentations were nice.My husband is an excellent & modern cook, who uses fresh ingredients. We evaluate dishes by 'not hiding' under sauces & cheese. Being able to taste the real flavor of the ingredients is important. We started with the kolaches. The bread portion left you only a bite of the center ingredient- it was mostly bread. Giant pancake was like a cake-eh. Valet offered at 11 am, on Sunday!Valet occupying the entire lot. They were offended that we wanted to self park, which had no sign.Assumed no self parking.Back lot available. Not a good start to a special event."

  • "The decor and energy of Provisions make an excellent backdrop for the always creative and changing menu at Provisions. It can get a bit loud when full, but the noise level only adds to the upbeat energy of the place. Not for those seeking a quiet intimate evening, as the tables are quite close to the other. This creates a nice way to get to know others and exchange thoughts regarding the exciting experience."

  • "provisions treats its customers like royalty! couldnt be happier with the hostesses and the chef. the server wasn't as friendly as i would like, but the food, while rich, is quality. great wine list too!"

  • "Although my girlfriend and I had a difficult time figuring out what kind of restaurant this was when we searched online, Provisions is definitely a gem of the Midtown/Montrose area. It is not the restaurant for you if you're looking for the next TGIF's or Applebee's. This place has a great atmosphere with natural lighting and a friendly staff. Hearing and seeing the kitchen add to the overall experience too. The menu is a little difficult to grasp, but nothing a couple of google searches on the smartphone can't fix. My girlfriend had the grilled skirt steak (delicious) and I had the Keilbasa (an even more delicious sausage meal). I will definitely go back, but only on special occasions like birthdays or promotions. 4.5/5 "

  • "We ate at The Pass last year and had such a wonderful experience. We were pleasantly surprised by how well the more laid back and less expensive Provision tickled our fancy too! The service and recommendations were great, the prices were expected for the quality of food and the cocktails were to for for! We had 1/2 dozen oysters, a English muffin/bacon and yolk/soft cheese dish, a caramelized onion/pork jowl/speciality cheese pizza that was amazing, a rabbit "ravioli" dish and two desserts: rhubarb strawberry tart and donuts with sea salt Carmel ice cream. My only complaint was how loud it was but after we for our food we couldn't stop eating to talk so it didn't matter anyways. Can't wait to go back!!"

  • "It's funny how a little thing can make a big difference in how one feels about a restaurant. Food and ambience were great, but our waiter seemed unhappy to be there. Maybe he was just having a bad night...but the glum look on his face was a downer."

  • "Very interesting options you won't find many places."

  • "Been looking forward to trying out Provisions and it didn't disappoint. For starters, we had the English muffin with bacon gastrique and egg yolk, with Camembert, as well as the Ham of the day. All great, especially the bacon gastrique. Moved on to the rabbit pasta....really not like anything I had had before and it was delicious. Mussels with chorizo broth were excellent, too. For dessert I had the donuts with salted cashew ice cream, which I really liked. Partner has the beet cake with cilantro ice cream and juniper. Three of my least favorite flavors are beets, juniper, and cilantro, so I really hated that dessert, but apparently it tastes good to others. Overall, the dinner was a great experience. Service was excellent, too."

  • "We had a quick dinner on the back patio at Provisions and enjoyed every mouthful. We started with the Red Rock Cheese/Black Olive Loaf comb - the violet-date mustard was to die for! My friend ordered the Ricotta Gnudi - it was melt-in-your mouth delicious and quite original. I had an equally unique and highly flavorful Asparagus/Quail Egg/Pecorino pizza. Everything was just perfect, original, and tasty. We'll definitely go back! "

  • "Provisions is the less grand half of Pass/Provisions. No set menu here, just an eclectic menu of a la carte items. We started with a quirky bowl of roasted peppers: interesting but a bit too much of a good thing, Then we shared small portions of the first three pastas on the menu. One was really excellent (Hen of the Woods mushrooms); the others were less distinguished. The service was good. The staff remembered us from our visit to Pass two nights earlier and seemed genuinely interested in our opinion of the restaurants. We look forward to seeing them the next time we visit Houston. "
