  • "Great restaurant. Pricey for Williamsburg, but food is definitely a cut above any local steakhouse. Owner Carol is omnipresent but not overbearing, just adds attentiveness that makes restaurant "go.""

  • "We were visiting from Ohio with a group of nine and wanted a nice restaurant to celebrate July family birthdays. We couldn't have done better! The food was terrific, the service was superb (the bartender even created a drink for our daughters) and the evening was a great success. The restaurant even baked a cake for us for the birthday celebration. If you live near Williamsburg this is a great place for dinner. We wish we lived closer."

  • "We were early on a quiet night. The restaurant has an extensive bar area that runs half the length of the large room. Tables are nicely spaced for quiet and private conversation. One person in our party had the night's special of rock fish and raved about it. I had the filet mignonette dish that my wife had ordered on a previous visit. It was as good as she had claimed it to be. My wife very much enjoyed the Chilean sea bass. We also enjoyed two bottles of German Reisling. We all intend to return."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants in Wiliamsburg. Last week they began a new menu which has something for everyone. My wife had the veal scallopini and I had the rack of lamb. Both were exceptionally good. The portions are generous. The wine list is very good with something at pretty much every price point. The service was professional and prompt without being intrusive. The restaurant has also installed new sound absorbing material at various places so that it is now a good quiet place with allows for free conversation."

  • "A delicious chicken dinner with risotto to "die for" and a salad that was artistically displayed and incredibly good."

  • "On vacation and this was the best meal we had in the Williamsburg area."

  • "Food choices were diverse and preparation (fillet and striped bass) were moist and tender. Appetizers were excellent and showed the creativity of the chef. Restaurant decor and ambiance were colorful but subdued. Great restaurant for special occasion or just a night out for a terrific meal. Service was very helpful and friendly."

  • "I don't know if it was our snobby server, or the kitchen, but this was memorable only for the over the top attitude. The menu was fine; the specials read by our server including at least 10 "ingredients" we'd never heard of, and words and combos for the meal that were, well, simply ridiculous. Take away all the crap surrounding the process of ordering, and the food was good. But let's call "salmon"...."salmon". And let's call "scallops"...."scallops". Our server was a complete food snob with zero understanding that some people like their food relatively plain and simple. We frequent at least 3-4 restaurants a week, and we have very experienced palates. Good food, though. You just have to wade through too much nonsense to get it."

  • "I picked Prime46Forty based on other opentable reviews, and we were not disappointed! I even got lost on the way there, and when I called for directions, they were happy to help. Carol actually called me back to make sure I hadn't gotten lost again! Every dish we ordered was superb. You really cannot go wrong here."

  • "This was my first visit to Prime 46Forty. From the get go, it was amazing. The food was the best I have ever eaten and the service was impecable."

  • "Prime46forty has a menu that will make your mouth water. Their appetizers were a perfect size and full of taste. The menu is amazing and contains all different types of foods. We ordered entrees that were that evening's specials, and we were very happy with our choices. I want to mention that when I made the reservation, I wrote that one of us is gluten-free. Not only did they have plenty of GF options, but the waiter made note of it right away from the reservation and made us aware of several meals that would be appropriate."

  • "Food and service were outstanding. Attentive server and never intrusive, the best one could ask for. I require a special diet and the server and kitchen could not have been more competent or supportive. It is a jewel in Williamsburg."

  • "I suggested we visit Prime46Forty on the spur of the moment after noting some Open Table subscribers had recently enjoyed it. Tucked in the back of our local Martin's / Target shopping center our expectations were minimum though we were pleasantly surprised. My wife rated her salmon 4/5; I rated my veal 4/5. The waiter was friendly, well informed though not intrusive and the atmosphere was pleasant in the nearly empty (Wednesday night) restaurant. The wine list was eclectic at the very least. The first restaurant in the area to populate the wine list with completely unknown vintners from around the globe. The waiter helped me select an excellent (though unknown) Merlot to compliment my veal. Overall a very pleasant evening; we will return."

  • "This restaurant is on par w/ Fat Canary & Le Yaca. The Saturday evening specials were innovative-a totally refreshing, tangy/mellow melon soup, & a lovely scallop dish w/ complementary sides. The swordfish was delightful w/ its fruity tang. The bar uses a wonderful artisanal tonic which makes for great summer drinking. The wine list is notable, & owner/hostess Carroll circulates in a friendly, yet unobtrusive manner."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Prime with its chic atmosphere, friendly and competent staff, and fabulous food. Brought our own wine on a Sunday (no corkage fee) and paired it with the Chilean sea bass and strip steak entrees. Both were perfectly cooked and served with delicious sides. Love the amuse-bouche too! Chef Tim uses only the best ingredients and turns out some of the best meals in the area (including the best steak!)."

  • "Prime 46forty is truly a find in Williamsburg. After eating for a week in NYC I didn't think we'd be able to match up to the excellent food that abounds in New York. But Prime 46forty is a place that can hold its own against any great restaurant. The food is inventive and delicious. The service was friendly but respectful. The owner is named Carol and she is doing something wonderful by opening a restaurant of such high quality in every department. The decor is really upbeat, modern , and fun. Go there.. it's worth every penny."

  • "We were greeted by one of the owners in a very friendly, welcoming manner, and she came by to chat later. This was not the standard forced table visit, she was very personable. We were very pleased by the wine, beer, and menu choices. Our waiter, Jay, promised my husband that the bone-in ribeye was going to be the best steak he had ever had. It was delicious - seared on the outside and perfectly cooked to temperature. My husband agreed that the steak was very possibly the best ever (We have had some great ones). My filet was perfect as well. The restaurant was not busy and we sincerely hope that we just caught it at a slower time, because we want them to succeed! We will definitely be back and have already recommended it to several people."

  • "We enjoyed our first dinner in this new Wmsbg restaurant immensely. Food was fabulous - much more than we expected. Loved that they feature no corkage fee on Sunday evenings for wine that the customer brings in. Great idea. Recommend it to anyone. Price is well worth it. Expensive but worthy every penny. It was our wedding anniversary and we received a free FABULOUS dessert too. WOW!"

  • "Carol has done it again. Excellent cuisine and a very competent wine list. Service was superior and special dietary needs were cheerfully accommodated. The restaurant has not yet generated the crowds we expect that will occur as time goes on. Food and service are excellent and far better than most Williamsburg venues."

  • "Although we live nearby, this was our first experience at Prime46forty, and we cannot wait to return! We invited our daughter and her husband out for a special dinner in celebration of their anniversary. Since they are complete "foodies", we wanted the experience to be exceptional - and these folks took it completely over the top!! From the special cocktails created by the mixologist, Alannah, to the appetizers, main courses, and desserts - this place is FABULOUS!! The four of us shared and tasted EVERY dish and each one was a FAVORITE. Our waiter, Rick, was charming and informative, but relaxed - just the way this restaurant is. The ambiance is chic and modern, comfortable seating, welcoming atmosphere. A TRUE GEM!! "

  • ".......but the people and service great as well. My husband and I are foodies and try to find the best restaurants wherever we go. Prime46forty ranks high in the best of the best. Prices may be a bit high in that neighborhood in Williamsburg but well worth it......for the experience!!"

  • "We had know high expectations - although the reviews were very good. Service was phenomenal - Paegan was an absolute delight and as we shared with the owner - a real asset to the restaurant. We would go back just to spend time chatting with her and enjoying her excellent service. The food - was also spectacular and paced nicely. I had crab cakes that were 100% lump crab meat and my companion enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak. The portions were more than sufficient but too good to leave even a bite behind."

  • "This restaurant had a great personality, specifically because of our extra fun waiter, Brentley! The atmosphere was very nice and comfortable and the food was very good, but all I can remember is that extra fun waiter and how much fun he made sure we had as we were celebrating our friends birthdays. The wine was good and I remember that the appetizers were great, I had the braised wagyu beef cheek ravioli, black truffle and parsley butter, cipollini onions that were just perfect."

  • "Who would have thought that a foodie-heaven find would be nestled in a suburban shopping mall? From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we could not have asked for a better experience. Inventive, superbly executed starters, mains and desserts; creative and generous cocktails; eclectic wines, including a Virginia Chardonnay we liked very much; a knowledgeable, friendly server, who made sure we found the best the restaurant had to offer; and an owner who welcomed us and made sure that all went well. Prime is equal to the Fat Canary in presenting Williamsburg's best. If Prime had a downtown location, it would shutter most of the competition. "

  • "If you want a memorable meal - start to finish - you won't find any better in Williamsburg. The service is also exceptional."

  • "Overall, Prime is a great experience and I definitely recommend. Don't be put off by the location (it's in a strip mall) or the ambiance (sometimes you feel like you're in a strip mall). The food and service are top notch. We were a group of three that shared an appetizer, each ordered an entree, and shared a dessert - every single item was delicious. The soft shell crab salad appetizer was especially impressive, and the quality of the ingredients was apparent. I will definitely be back!"

  • "The restaurant decor is attractive, modern and clean. The Pinot Grigio complemented each of the meals perfectly. The mussel appetizer and special cauliflower soup were both excellent and the ahi tuna special appetizer was amazing. The veal scallopini, crab cakes, and rockfish entrees were each excellent. The server, a delightful young lady was friendly, helpful, and attentive and the owner visited with us several times during the meal to ensure we were having a great time. The complimentary lemon panna cotta, recommended by the server, was an absolutely perfect ending to an excellent meal. We will definitely return."

  • "We are so happy Carroll and Tim have taken this step. Prime 4640 is a beautiful space filled with beautiful people, servers and attendants. Tim's cuisine choices and preparation are wonderful and the liveliness and banter is energetic, and spirited. Nothing stodgy here!"

  • "This restaurant is only open for dinner but for Mother's Day provided a prix fixe 3 course ($50.00) afternoon service. It was our first visit and we will definitely dine here again. We both chose filet medallions served over a deliciously creamy risotto and topped with sauteed spinach as our main entree. The steak was so tender it could be cut with a fork. There is a nice selection of wines on their list; hardly any French or Italian though. Jay, our server was most attentive and informative. Overall, a very good experience."

  • "Prime4640 was our special destination from west end of Richmond to help celebrate Mother's Day. The wait staff is outstanding. The food is incredible. Carol greeted us personally and added to a pleasurable first visit. We will make Prime4640 a regular destination for special night out. Thank you for a great first experience at your place Carol! We loved every minute."

  • "We enjoyed an incredible Mothers Day meal at Prime. My daughter is quite the Foodie from Atlanta and did not believe just a wonderful meal could be found in Williamsburg. Each bit melted in your mouth as the favors blended to perfection. The service was perfect. Each detailed carried out to the highest level. The soft shell crab was unbelievable. Thanks for a perfect Mothers Day lunch. "

  • "My husband and I ate here this past Saturday which was a busy evening with lots of graduation celebrations. We loved the food and our server Peg was wonderful. My only complaint is that the decor does not provide any noise absorption and so we found ourselves having to almost yell to speak to each other. We arrived at 8:30 so before too long many tables finished and left and at that point the noise did diminish but then a live band started which was very enjoyable but again impeded the ability to have a normal conversation. Perhaps some heavy curtains on the windows could help this. Despite the sound issues we really enjoyed our evening at Prime 46 - the grilled pound cake dessert is amazing !!!"
