A word from Prepkitchen - Little Italy
The newest location to the Prepkitchen family, Prepkitchen Little Italy sits on the corner of India & Date Street in San Diego’s historic Little Italy. The second-story dining room boasts views of the city’s busy streets and local farmer’s market on Saturday mornings. Named one of San Diego’s “Best Restaurants” in 2012 by San Diego Magazine’s food critic, Troy Johnson, Prepkitchen Little Italy serves artisanal, farm-to-table cuisine in a fun & sociable environment and is the only Prepkitchen restaurant to offer a full-service bar.
Happy hour is offered daily, where guests can enjoy a selection of award-winning $4 tapas, $5 glasses of sangria or $20 pitchers, $8 signature and handcrafted cocktails, as well as 25% off all bottles of wine.
Prepkitchen Little Italy is open for lunch and dinner daily, as well as brunch on the weekends, which includes happy hour priced mimosas, $1 coffee and welcoming scone bar.

  • "Probably one of my favorite places in Little Italy. Only downside is how popular it is and you have to wait to be seated (if you can't find places at the bar or community tables - which is great too). Made a reservation for 8 people for 8:30pm dinner and didn't get seated until 9:15pm, so that was a poor experience, but one of the only ones I've had there. Really awesome place."

  • "Our first time at this establishment which was quite enjoyable....really good service although the kitchen was a bit behind and we did not get our salad until 30 minutes after ordering. Further, we didnt get out our entrees until 30 minutes after our salad but our fine server made up for that in various ways....glass of wine and dessert on the house. She really went all out to make sure we were satisfied customers. One drawback.....when we made reservations, I did not know enough to request a table in the main dining room - unfortunately we sat near the bar and my chair was 3 feet from the kitchen door which was less than desirable. Make sure you request a window seat!"

  • "Went with a good friend after a two-day conference, and turned out to be a perfect combination of good food and lively atmosphere. Two or more women in most tables enjoying dinner in a happy, chatty, tolerably-loud ambiance. We shared two great appetizers: a very fresh Caesar Salad with an interesting dressing, and a generous serving of green asparagus fried in a tasty light batter. After that we tried the two specials of the day: my friend had a slowly-cooked meat (pork?) with some kind of sauce, which I did not try but she praised; and I had fish (red snapper?) in a clam and artichoke sauce with a combination of spices I could not clearly identify. All went great with a good Spanish wine."

  • "I've eaten at Prep Kitchen many, many times. In fact, I ate there twice last week! The food is always excellent and the servers are attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is lively and appropriate for special occasion or a night out with friends. Our server Claire was particularly helpful in selecting a glass of wine to go with 2 different meals that my friend and I were splitting. Both the scallops and pork porterhouse were so good! Prep Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants and I look forward to enjoying many more meals there in the future!"

  • "Disappointing overall. My scallops were burnt & they didn't tell us until a second appetizer was offered complimentary & we inquired why. Others were waiting for their dishes. My scallops appeared undercooked, my daughter had a ravioli dish that none of us liked & the pasta-meat sauce wasn't very good."

  • "I took a girlfriend to this restaurant because she was looking to venture out of her neighborhood. She was without her husband and son, and didn't have to also take into consideration their tastes for our evening out. She really enjoyed the appetizer we shared and the entree left her feeling perfectly satisfied. I tried the burger, which I've never had at Prepkitchen. It's a burger meant to be eaten with a knife and fork and it was fabulous. It was very filling so I could only handle a little less than half of the sandwich and some of the fries. I definitely love that the food is approachable but with an obvious gourmet flair. I'm definitely looking forward to another visit to try new things on the menu."

  • "Great food/service. Clare helped us in the bar and directed us to Kyle and Rob in the dining room. They all took great care of us - very (but not overly) attentive. Food and drink outstanding - overall a great time! We had a mishap with the bartender, who is a bit too serious about his craft. He was clearly put out when we questioned one of his creations, but Clare smoothed if over and rescued that part of the evening. We'll be back - and recommend Prep Kitchen Little Italy without question!"

  • "PrepKitchen Little Italy is a delight. The farm to table concept brings fresh, interesting combinations which really speak to the flavor I love. The food comes out as it is ready so it is hot. It is a great place to share a number of dishes to really get the full impact of all the flavors. We have been a couple of times and now want to go for brunch! The hamburger is great, the warm white bean and arugula salad is delicious! This time we also had one of the specials, a flatbread with pork belly, Myers lemon, roasted broccoli and som some cilantro, white sauce and chili pepper...light and heavenly. Oh, and the environment is eclectic and cool. Go! You will be glad you did."

  • "The food was good and fresh and interesting but the service was slow and they brought out our app with our entree which is a major pet peeve of mine. Actually, they brought the entree and I said "what happened to our app?" And the waitress said "Oh, it's coming. I thought you wanted it more like a side dish." And then a couple minutes later it arrived. Haha. I'm pretty sure she just forgot to put in the order. Not a terrible mistake but had she been honest we probably would have just cancelled the app rather than eat it with our entree. Oh, and DON'T order the olives unless you have a big group. It's an insane amount of olives for two people and most of the small olives were mushy. We barely ate 1/4 of the dish. Still, a good experience."

  • "Prep Kitchen is one of the best restaurants in Little Italy. Clientele is thirties, hip and energetic. Excellent bar area with small plates and drinks. We were a party of 3 and shared a cutting board appetizer. We also had bean soup, Caesar's salad, grilled scallops with peas and Myer lemon risotto and Mary's fried chicken. Both entrees were excellent - the risotto is superb. Caesar's salad is a signature dish but the white bean soup did not have much flavor. We have been here quite a few times - pre theatre and pre-opera. Although the noise level is a bit high, you can have a great conversation in the dining area. Quirky and recyclable décor, very good service , overall a great place ."

  • "I have eaten at a lot of Little Italy places since moving here but never paid much attention to Prepkitchen unless I walked by and thought that this place must offer a great street view. Well, took out of town guest there and confirmed the view overlooking bustling Little Italy is great even if you are not seated by the window. The food was more than I expected: scallops over a perfect risotto; pasta prepared better than any I have experienced so far in Little Italy with a subtle sauce that didn't overpower this fine dish. Steak also superb for anyplace, let alone a non-steakhouse. Great wine list and servers that mastered that list without pretension made this an evening to remember. Will be back."

Not where you go for quiet intimate confidential discussion but terrific for casual fun. Our server just in from OH(IO) was just what you would expect from a Midwesterner...professional but nice all evening long. Food was great. Wine was great. Evening was over the top."

  • "Be advised that on a big Saturday night the place is a madhouse, and as we were early for our reservation, we did have to camp out in the bar to wait. Big sacrifice, yes? ;-) The wait staff did seem a bit overwhelmed at one point. Since when does a glass of wine take 10 minutes?!? But our server did get help from a second server--can't recall her name, but she had a super cute blonde haircut. Blondie ended up being our server once we were seated, and the night took off from there. Get the lamb shank & mushroom soup! And look for the cute blonde haircut :-)"

  • "My boyfriend and I celebrated Valentine's Day here this weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We started at the bar and had great, quick service. In the future, I would definitely come back just to enjoy the happy hour prices and small bites. We moved over to our table after a drink and looked over the menu. Our table was meant for 4 people, so it didn't feel super romantic, but the dining room area is small enough and most people were there on dates so it wasn't a big deal. We started with the flat bread - absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the steak and I had the burger. The burger was great - my only complaint was that the delicious egg it came with made it slightly hard to eat due to the slippery yolk, but it was great!"
