Diner Reviews
  • "We've been going to Pond House for years and always enjoy our dining experience there. The views are lovely, the servers friendly and the food is delicious. Their menu has a nice variety of options and they always seem to have new dishes to try each time we visit. Highly recommend!"

  • "I eat here a few times a month and the location and food are always excellent. The service is not terrible but normally is not the best either. This visit Nicole waited on us and she was so excellent. She was attentive and proactive in refilling drinks and extra friendly. She made the dinning experience perfect for my whole family."

  • "The pasta dish was very good, but thought the chicken salad was on the dry side. The special bread it came on sounded so delicious but again seemed very dry. It's a nice place to meet for lunch but was disappointed with my choice."

  • "Be sure to make reservations, as it was very busy for lunch and the older hostess we met at the door was not very pleasant. The duck quesadilla was nothing special, but my guests enjoyed their Ruben sandwich and the apple salad. The service was a little slow. Overall, it was a nice place to go for lunch, but we won't be hurrying back."

  • "We visited for the first time this past Sunday, specifically for a special Sunday Brubch - we sat outside on the patio; the weather was perfect; service was excellent; the brunch menu options were plentiful and very interesting - not the typical breakfast fare. We haven't stopped talking about it since!!!! We are sure to return with friends this summer for more excellent casual outdoor dining in scenic Elizabeth Park! A great find!"

  • "I've been here before with better results. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the special salad with peaches & goat cheese. The peaches were not ripe. I added shrimp, which ended up being overcooked. My friends each ordered the chicken special and it was tough & dry. The service was terrible too. We had a question about our bill and the hostess/manager was less than cordial. I frequent the Pond House Grille in Glastonbury which I love. The home location was a big disappointment. They are lucky the location is so great."

  • "We very much enjoyed eating at Pond House last Friday. The food and atmosphere (we dined outside) was excellent and the service - including the hostess, our waiter and the manager - was outstanding. We recommend your cafe to many people and will continue to do so. Of course, we look forward to the next time we dine with you."

  • "Visiting from Texas and enjoyed our visit. Excellent jambalaya and a great background to enjoy a walk before or after a delicious meal. Attentive staff, great details, gorgeous setting."

  • "Interesting menu. Our group enjoyed everything. I tasted a friends hanger steak and was not impressed with flavor. My scallops were better but only 3 for $22+? Pond house used to be a much better value"

  • "I will probably never return. My friend ordered the duck special. He asked that it be done very well done. Not the case . It was rare. My other friend ordered the fried chicken. It was coated with very and I do mean very salty bread crumbs that too was inedible. I ordered the Roman Pasta which was very and I do mean very spicy . Also inedible. They need a new chef!"

  • "It's such a pleasure to dine in beautiful Elizabeth Park."

  • "The food was good overall. The cornbread was crumbly but had a pleasant, sweet flavor. the egg scramble was cooked perfectly- not too hard and not too soft and the vegetables inside were great. If I were to add one thing is that this time of year, every brunch plate should have some kind of fruit as garnish or side. It is after all fresh fruit season. Being able to take a pleasnt walk adds to the ambience."

  • "What a perfect place to have a weekend brunch!! We had a very enjoyable time sitting on the outdoor patio next to the pond while view the ducks and geese. The flowers were magnificent."

  • "I've been to the Pond House many times but I was disappointed with the food on my last visit for dinner. Dining on the patio on a gorgeous summer evening was delightful and I admit I didn't pay enough attention to the menu descriptions (those annoying iPad menus make for cumbersome perusing) but I ordered the salmon without realizing that the sides were spaetzle and bitter greens. Paring a heavy starch like spaetlze with fish is, in my opinion, a mistake to begin with but adding cinnamon to it is just criminal. The taste was unappealing and the spice turned the side dish an unappetizing grey-brown color. The bitter greens were also unappealing. This was the worst food I've had here and I hope it's just an anomaly. Great service though."

  • "My friends and I were pleasantly surprised at our recent visit to the Pond Hpuse at Elizabeth Park. We had no idea how quaint this food spot would be. We sat on the porch. Perfect for us to enjoy the fresh air and yet to avoid the sun. I would highly recommend a visit here. Can't wait to experience a brunch."

  • "this was my first dinner at the Pond House Café and I was pleasantly surprised by the superb food! They know how to go way beyond a great lunch menu! My only complaint? No vegetable with the meat. The price would have been reasonable except for this lack."

  • "The Pond House has become a traditional half-way summer meeting place for me and my cousin who live in opposite directions. The weather was very warm and humid and the outside eating area unshaded, so we ate inside. The food selection was wonderful and the ambiance pleasant, but outside would have been preferable. We loved taking a stroll after by the pond and around the flower beds."

  • "The Pond House Café in historic Elizabeth Park turns 15 this year. Louis Lista and his team have created one of the most popular and beloved restaurants in the greater Hartford area. The grilled Rueben is the best ever; better than NYC. My aunt who is 82 brought a group of her friends here from out of town, and they all ordered the Rueben! They still talk about it. But, everything is great. I love the creative and interesting salads, and love the crab cakes. The menu itself is an art form of food. The outdoor patio overlooks the pond, and the building is surrounded by wonderful gardens and pathways. After dining, you need to walk over to the 2.5 acre ROSE GARDEN, and also the perennial, annual, and several hidden gardens."

  • "My friends and I walked around the park enjoying all the gardens, and then ate a wonderful brunch indoors (we needed the AC after walking around outside in July!). We had lots of fun in a special atmosphere! Thank-you all!"

  • "A nice walk in the rose garden, girl talk, then an afternoon peach Sangria, and a wonderful lunch. Sat outside and watched the ducks with a glass of wine under a shade umbrella. Very relaxing. Will put on one of my favorite spots :) Waitress was very attentive, cleared dishes away, clearly paying attention to us."

  • "We had Ms. Astor's chicken salad and it is the favorite of many at this restaurant. Granddaughter had Hamburger and waffle fries, excellent. The food is always great, the service good and the only trouble was the noise level. It was quite loud. being a very humid day, we opted to eat inside, but I much prefer the patio dining and make sure to walk through the gardens."

  • "The ambiance on the outdoor patio is perfect (except the seats that seem to slope downward). Romantic little place next to Elizabeth Park Rose Garden. Unfortunately, the food didn't seem up to par with the rest of the place; though this was my first time dining here."

  • "The rose gardens in Elizabeth Park are beautiful in late June, so a visit to the Pond House and a tour of the rose gardens should be an annual event for all of us who live in the area. The Pond House does get very busy so a reservation is recommended, but there is always ice cream to purchase outside if you forget!"

  • "People know about the Rose Gardens in Elizabeth Park but the hidden treasure is the Pond House Cafe. Great food and a local hot spot for Park visitors."

  • "Despite making reservations ahead of time and including a special request, our party of four was not happy with the attitudes of the staff. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and the hostess said "you have to wait five more minutes, it is not 1:00". Did she think that in 5 minutes a table would magically appear?? Most staff had grumpy looks, like we don't want to be here, nor wait on you. All need a refresher in customer service and personality checks. Food was good, but had run out of quiche by 1:00?? No peach sangria either. For a Tuesday afternoon, it was extremely busy and very noisy. Our request for a birthday celebration never was mentioned, our table was great. Unsure if we would return."

  • "We have been to the Pond House many, many times over the years and we especially love being out on the patio and having a long relaxed lunch. During the week nobody rushes us. We often bring guests for brunch. We wish you would bring back the pie in the mason jar! The sangrias are excellent."

  • "Just discovered the Pond House last year, and haven't stopped raving about it to everyone I know. On Monday, I brought relatives from Ohio and hoped it would be a nice experience. We were not disappointed. Food and service was excellent, and everyone kept saying how great everything was. Would love to try the brunch someday."

  • "We booked a table many days in advance but still had to wait before being seated for Sunday brunch. It then took over 20 minutes before our waitress appeared to take our orders. There was a distinct garbage smell on the outside terrace where we were. The food when it eventually arrived was so-so: e.g. Eggs "Florentine" only had a few strands of the spinach its name implies but lots of potatoes instead. All in all, this was a disappointing experience for the entertainment of our out-of-town guests and an embarrassment for us.,"

  • "Wanted to find a nice and interesting place on my way to Boston . . . What a find !!! My son, who's somewhat critical, loved the chicken wrap and even loved the apple walnut salad. To please a picky teenage boy means you've reached the major leagues . . . KUDOS !!!"

  • "The Pond House Cafe Sunday brunch is so good. I had the portobello and pesto omelet, which came with corn bread and home fries. Super fluffy eggs, large portion size. It's right in Elizabeth Park, which is gorgeous this time of year. You can't even tell you're in the city."

  • "Excellent brunch on outside patio with as the name implies a nice view of the pond replete with ducks, geese and assorted wildlife. The gardens and flowers of Elizabeth Park adjacent to the restaurant offer a great place to wander around and enjoy a sunny day."

  • "Although we have eaten at the Pond House numerous times, tonight it seemed to lack something. The food was good, but there was a very flat feeling. Service was slow and even though our food was good, there were complaints from other tables around us. Maybe it was just an off night, but for a Saturday evening,it was very slow. I hope that this usually excellent spot isn't fading."

  • "Wonderful atmosphere and on a sunny day, you can enjoy the outside, while dining. the food is delicious and the waitstaff that brings it to you is informed, courteous and punctual. They've done some improvements and look to be expanding their patio area. I've only gone for brunch or lunch, but having the fire pit outside, looks like it would add some great ambience and added warmth on a cool summer night."

  • "We recently took my mother out for lunch at the Pond House. The dual brunch/lunch menu was great. Our dishes were creative, well presented and delicious! Afterwards we enjoyed a stroll around the gardens. Our only -- minor-- complaint was that the service was a bit slow."
